Guess which book we're discussing on the podcast this month 😉😉

5⭐️ I thoroughly enjoyed this book for so many reasons. The characters were very well fleshed-out and relatable, and I loved their sexual and emotional chemistry. The politics were also very on point, and the conflict felt realistic, especially given that these were queer characters. I can‘t wait to read Casey McQuiston‘s next book! #takeprideinreading
Look I know I'm late to this party but this has honestly been the book I've been needing for months. It's sweet, romantic, and a lovely escapist palate cleanser if your political heart was broken back in 2016. Complete with an enemies to friends to lovers romance, election politics, and classics references. Absolutely recommend it.
Pick times five thousand. What a great #romance for #PrideMonth, with a diverse cast of characters delightfully drawn. I loved the relationships in this book—between the two protagonists, but also with the MC‘s family and friends. Such great drama, politics, intelligence, and heartthrobs. Made a collage of the highlights for me.
Woke up this morning feeling like I‘m swallowing nails, so taking it easy today with lots of tea and a distraction. I read it in May, in ebook, but loved it so much that I had to have a print copy. I‘m pretty sure this will go on my list of favorite rereads.
This was utterly delightful. My only complaint is that the title absolutely needs the Oxford comma. Seriously. I listened to the audio so I didn‘t notice the lack of Oxford comma until I finished, though. I loved Alex and Henry and pals Nora and June and the escapism that was a White House run by a female present in 2016 with a beautiful blended family. The audio narrator was fantastic for the part. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As the daughter of a public figure and someone who moved into public service as well, I‘m really enjoying reading this book so far. MC Alex is a hoot and I am enjoying his unabashed ambition and interest in the political process. Really glad I picked up this one! #romance #currentlyreading
Because I have no patience or self control I decided I couldn't handle the 6 month library hold list and bought myself a kindle copy of this, and I'm SO glad I did! This was a total #blameitonlitsy read for me. When I first saw the galley of this the cover art and brief blurb turned me off and I was convinced I wouldn't be interested, but the more reviews I read the more excited I got about it and you all were right :-) I LOVED this. #pridemonth
My current audio book has a very #sassyMC and I‘m listening with my sassy cat, Sophie. MC Alex lives in the White House with his mom, the president, and finds himself falling for Prince Henry of England, who was previously his frenemy. I‘m thoroughly enjoying this and thankful I could get it on audio because I‘ve had such a terrible headache the past few days that I haven‘t felt up to much reading. #jazzyjune
Two of my digital library holds came in at once, plus I have three more to pick up at the library. Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. I'm really looking forward to both of these.
This was so sweet and perfect and exactly what I needed during a massively stressful week.
Apologies for spamming a series of not great reviews, but I wanted to get these off of my currently reading list and my brain space is not adequate for better analysis at the moment.
Also, @KatDowney I'm bringing this to the shop for you! 💙📚
Enjoying this audiobook so much!
I also have it on my Kindle but the narrator is doing a good job so I think I will continue listening. It's really funny so far and super cute! ❤️
This was SO MUCH MORE than I expected! It was fun & funny & breezy, but also surprisingly deep & profound. The story felt so believable too, that this could totally happen & would probably be a lot like this, b/c princes & First Sons are still just ppl with their own identities, after all. Loved Alex & Henry, June, Zahra, all the cast. Loved the sweetness & seriousness mixed. Just wonderful, beyond what I anticipated. A rare & happy 5/5 ⭐️ for me!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “History, huh?” This story is so hopeful and heartwarming. It presents an alternative version of the American political climate and bucks British royal family tradition. If only the world could be this progressive, loving, and accepting. My only complaint are the clunky sex scenes. They don‘t really add to the narrative, but whatever. That‘s me being nitpicky. It‘s a good, positive read!
Like The Royal We, but gay and way better! This adorable book gave me all the feels and I want everyone to read it so we can gush about how cute Alex and Henry are! I will always be down for a royal falling for a commoner romance.
This book also shows what could be possible in politics...fingers crossed for 2020.
A very cute romance between the first son of the US and the younger prince of England, this was smart, funny, and delightfully snarky. It tackles not only coming out but also politics and acceptance. I smiled the whole time I was reading it. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2019/04/review-red-white-and-royal-blue-by.html
I‘m having a really tough time this weekend (well, this week/month/year/decade, TBH) and tomorrow is gonna be awful and my cat is sick and everything is hard and bad. So I really need a light, fun, happy book, and like the morose little Eeyore I am, I had very few options on my TBR shelves. Very glad I just bought this and hope it‘ll do the job!
3 and 1/2 stars for me. One star for the first 30% and two stars for the last 30%. A half a star for the middle 40% which could have been told in a small fraction of the pages they actually used. I almost bailed in the middle, the ending made up for it but the book did not live up to all of the hype for me.
Tropey, but done so well. The banter was so good! I could give a fuck about the royals or most politics. But this was like the West Wing and Poitical Animals had a baby, but without all the drugs and drama. Ive had a bad run of contemporary reads - I mostly dislike them. But this was awesome and cute.
I feel like Im reviewing this poorly, lol.
Read it, its cute.
Yes, yes, yes. Let me make the 100% pick rating on this book a bit stronger. It‘s just a fun story, and a great romance pick for #PrideMonth. ...If only a gay romance was the biggest concern in our current state of affairs!
We gathered together a recommended Pride reading list over on Book Riot:
This is the feel-good story I needed right now.
What would happen if the son of the president (a woman, by the way) fell in love with the Prince of Wales? In an election year? All. Of. The. Feels.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Started this in the kitchen making dinner and finished it up after sitting on the couch for hours, listening, crying, and smiling at the wall. Its THAT good. Its fucking heartwarming, very sweet, romanic, inclusive, accepting, and loving. It's so good. So good. It does this thing in the second half that rewrites the 2016 election and showed what might have been. All the tears, all of them, sad tears, happy tears. All the tears.
