Phantoms | Dean Koontz
CLOSER They found the town silent, apparently abandoned. Then they found the first body strangely swollen and still warm. One hundred fifty were dead, 350 missing. But the terror had only begun in the tiny mountain town of Snowfield, California. AND CLOSER At first they thought it was the work of a maniac. Or terrorists. Or toxic contamination. Or a bizarre new disease. AND CLOSER But then they found the truth. And they saw it in the flesh. And it was worse than anything any of them had ever imagined

Currently reading Phantoms! This is my first time reading a book by Dean Koontz. I‘m so excited...and scared lol

LiterarySloth Phantoms is a good one. My all time favorite Koontz is Watchers. That was my first Koontz novel given to me by my dad. 6mo
JadeBethJ Thank you! And Watchers is actually next on my list. So many people have recommended it! 6mo

I am so excited to be doing a creature feature #LMPBC #Round6 #GroupV read with you guys!
Pictured is a selection from my creature library. Do any of these (plus the tagged book) sound good to you? If not, I have many more to choose from.
I must warn you that Floating Dragon is almost 600 pages.
@TK421 @bklover @Avanders

BethM I was really thinking about joining this group but wasn‘t sure I had anything that fit. I‘m doing one round, maybe next time I‘ll be ambitious enough to sign up for two. 8mo
MaleficentBookDragon @BethM I'd love you to join if you think you want to. If not let's do next round together. 8mo
MaleficentBookDragon UPDATE: I'm a big James Rollins nerd so I'll add on Ice Hunt to the list. It is the book that I got two of my friends hooked on Rollins with. It is one of my favorites. @tk421 @Avanders @Bklover 8mo
Avanders @BethM totally! I‘m so excited about this. 😄😄 I‘m still down with whatever @MaleficentBookDragon — I haven‘t read any of them! 8mo
BethM @MaleficentBookDragon I think your round is full 😢 but I‘m totally down for the next round then! 8mo

“There are silences and silences. No one of them is like another. There is the silence of grief in velvet-draped rooms of a plushly carpeted funeral parlor which is far different from the bleak and terrible silence of grief in a widower's lonely bedroom.”

Getting to know Koontz and his writing style was a wonderful journey. He's easy to read and incorporates truth into his books. The story of Phantoms is a captivating one with lovable characters, understandable descriptions and page turning intrigue. In the afterword he goes into more detail about how the book came to life and his label as a horror writer which I really enjoyed. And it turns out there is a movie! #booktomovie

Guildedearlobe Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms (obligatory Jay and Silent Bob reference) Have you read Watchers yet. My favorite Koontz but do not watch the movie, it‘s horrible. 1y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Guildedearlobe haha I just watched that clip! Solid Jay/Been high five there. I haven't read Watchers but I'll add it to the list. I love a good book to movie. Even a bad movie. 1y

inthegreensandblues Koontz was my first favorite adult author! I was really into horror as a kid and discovered his books on my dad's shelves. 😄 Agree that Watchers is really great too. I've been thinking about revisiting the Odd Thomas series lately, I think I missed the last one. 1y
Whimsical.Curiosity @inthegreensandblues My husband adored the Odd Thomas series. I loved the movie but that ruins me from reading them. I sobbed at the end. I've heard wonderful things about the Jane Hawke series and might check that one out. 1y
WhatThePuck I have a whole box of Koontz you can have next time you're in town. Lol. 1y

🦖 SO many plans! Block party, winery anniversary party, REO Speedwagon concert, annnnnnnd yard work
🦖🦖 Mainly because it's taken up the whole month to finish. I had to read other books in between to take a break. It's good! But it's not my typical genre. And my first Koontz.
🦖🦖🦖 Onions are plane gross. #textureeater
🦖🦖🦖🦖 I competed in Debate team and Future Problem Solvers of America. Does that count? 😁

SamHeartCoffee REO Speedwagon! 😍😍 1y

Whimsical.Curiosity @BookaholicNatty @alvingregorio right?! I need 2 nights. 1 to read and 1 to sleep. But I'd probably read both anyway 🤣 1y
Dolly Books put me to sleep until, however, I drop them on my head.😖 1y
Shvonne One more chapter! I promise 🤞🏾 1y
alvingregorio I need one body to read and one body to rest. 1y

Anybody else #currentlyreading or have read this one? I'm getting more and more creeped out as I go!

On a related note, anybody remember this show??

Booga booga y'all!! 😱👽🤡

Craftylikefox I loved this show and it use to be on Amazon prime! 2y
KathyWheeler This was the first Koontz book I actually liked. 2y
Skygoddess1 I love Phantoms, it‘s probably my favorite book by Dean Koontz, try to reread every couple of years. Whatever you do, don‘t watch the movie, so does not live up to the book. Wish Nickelodeon or a streaming network would reboot Are You Afraid of the Dark 2y

AsYouWish Loved the show, and I think I have one of the Are You Afraid of the Dark books somewhere. I think every once in a while Nickelodeon plays an episode, and I get very excited!!! 2y
shellleigh33 I loved this show when I was younger. I rewatched it a couple years back with my kids. 2y
QueenOfWands My favorite show as a kid! 2y
KrystleTheBookSlayer Holy nostalgia! This used to be my favorite show...sometimes I still watch episodes on YouTube! 2y
Billypar Haven't read the Koontz, but I also loved the show as a kid. Combine that with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and John Bellairs novels, and that's a great map of my favorite scares growing up 😨😁 2y
Miss_Shush Loved this show!!! 2y
Chocamanda For a while they had some of the early seasons of Are You Afraid of the Dark on Amazon Prime. I don‘t know if they still do. I still quote this show. “That‘s Dr. Vink, with a veh veh veh veh” 😂 2y
hgrimes Me and my big sis watched that show religiously every week on Snick! We were so obsessed! 2y
Joy0201 Yes! 2y
Eggs Loved this show 2y
KatDowney I haven‘t read this but I used to watch the show all the time! 2y
Lovesbooks87 I loved the show when I was little. I remember watching it every weekend! 2y
marywag08 I still remember the one where they are in the shopping mall and this giant pinball rolls to the top of the escalator... I think he got trapped in a pinball game for eternity? 2y
BrittanyReads Favorite childhood show!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 2y
SassyPants617 @marywag08 omg. That‘s the only one I remember. Lmao. I watched it a lot, but one night i was babysitting with my cousin, and that episode scared the crap out of me. 😂 For the longest time I thought i was the one who remembered. 2y
KathyWheeler @Skygoddess1 you‘re right about the movie — I was very disappointed by it. My favorite Koontz books are From the Corner of His Eye and Twilight Eyes. 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Craftylikefox I'll have to check prime to see if it ever comes back! 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @KathyWheeler I hope it's my first one I like too 😁 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Skygoddess1 I had no idea there even was a movie! Netflix could make a killing. 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Chocamanda 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @KathyWheeler why would you say those are your fave? I'll need some more Koontz if this one turns out well. 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @SassyPants617 @marywag08 I loved that one! ❤️Pinball 2y
marywag08 @Whimsical.Curiosity @SassyPants617 Yes! That episode scared the crap out of me, too! 2y
Shvonne I loved that show. It was so creepy 2y
KathyWheeler @Whimsical.Curiosity Twilight Eyes was set in a circus and was well told. From the Corner of His Eye has a hero who had the same eye cancer my daughter had as a baby and it has the best Koontz villain. 2y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I remember that show! 2y
kezzlou85 I loved this show so much 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @KathyWheeler I will add them both to my list, they sound intriguing! And how crazy to be able to related to something so rare! I hope your daughter is all well and better! 2y
KathyWheeler @Whimsical.Curiosity My daughter is great now. She lost vision in her left eye, all but her peripheral vision, but she‘s good otherwise. I still feel that my friends who read the book before I did should have told me about that character‘s cancer though, instead of letting me encounter it with no preparation. It was still relatively new for me and my daughter back when the book came out. 2y
Whimsical.Curiosity @KathyWheeler so glad shes good! Some people just don't connect dots maybe. 2y
KathyWheeler @Whimsical.Curiosity I know — I tease them about it now.😊 2y
BilboBookends Best show ever 🙌🏻 1y
Whimsical.Curiosity @BilboBookends yes! 🙏🙏🙏 1y

I'm trying and trying but this chunkster isn't getting finished during the #readathon. I should get pretty far into it in #24in48 but it's gonna stay on my #currentread list for awhile. I can see myself needing breaks. ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! @24in48

My very first adult horror book. I begged my mom to let me read it when I was like 15. I really regretted that lol. It terrified me but I literally couldn‘t stop reading it. I had nightmares for two weeks after I finished it. It was the most horrifyingly awesome book I‘ve ever read. A couple of years later I tried watching the movie....it was so lame compared to Koontz writing I shut it off after laughing at it. Koontz still terrifies me.

Jennifer Paige and her younger sister, Lisa, return to town to find it empty of all people and animals. The next several days they find themselves and the emergency personnel they were able to contact fighting an evil without a name. It was okay. Interesting evil, but none of the characters were stand out.

MidnightBookGirl I loved this book as a teen, but now I wonder how it would stand up. Koontz can be very hit or miss with me, although Odd Thomas is one of my all time favorite literary characters. 2y
Melwilk @MidnightBookGirl Same here. I loved this book when I read it as a teenager. I‘m not sure I would have the same reaction now. I don‘t always care for Koontz books anymore. 2y
youngreadrshelf @Melwilk @MidnightBookGirl I agree about Koontz being hit or miss. My favorite of his are the Moonlight Bay books. I am still awaiting the 3rd book in that trilogy.😔 2y

Allowed myself a quick shopping spree. Four early Koontz novels for less than four Euros was too much to resist!
