I am always a sucker for a coming-of-age story; this one is also a murder mystery and a YA romance. And it‘s a story about intolerance and division and the specter of war, and reading it in 2024 definitely makes it feel urgent in a way that I‘m not sure it would have at a different time in my life.
Good one.

4/5⭐ I enjoyed this book just as much as the first time I read it. The author beautifully balances and weaves together worldbuilding, politics, family, music, philosophy, romance, and identity, all with complexity and meaning. I love Orma so much. #doublespin
This has been on my TBR forever! One day I‘m going to sit and read it. #scarathlon2023 #scarathlon #mischiefandmayhem #scarathlonphotochallenge day 15: purple

It‘s been forever but I finally have a library card. Yay I‘m so excited to start using my local library again.
Now this is good! Dragons can change into human form to interact in an uneasy political and social alliance to prevent war in this excellent YA fantasy.Seraphina is half human, half dragon; keeping as much a low profile as possible in her work as assistant choirmaster. Everything goes to hell of course:kept me engrossed on how Seraphina navigates it all. First of a series - will go on to the next!
Oh, I just loved this YA fantasy. It‘s an interesting take on dragons: many are living within human society while in their human form, but of course there‘s anti-dragon prejudice and an uneasy peace between the two races. The main character is relatable and likable, and I really enjoyed the palace intrigue and the emphasis on music. Looking forward to picking up the second book. This was my September #BookSpin.
Yay for #BookSpin day! My BookSpin is tagged, and even though I buried it at the bottom of the list because I want to prioritize books from my own shelves… my #DoubleSpin ended up landing on the one slot I allotted to a library hold. 😆 I‘m excited about the #BookSpinBingo possibilities, and maybe I‘ll even catch up on some past months‘ spins. (Ah, the optimism at the beginning of the month…😂)
This richly-realized and emotionally-resonant fantasy is full of dragons and court politics and is all about the importance of truth, love, and art in the forging of peace. Mandy Williams‘ narration of the audiobook is just pitch-perfect and I listened on 1x speed, just delighted the whole time. Highly recommended for fans of The Goblin Emperor or Uprooted!
I was not expecting to like this. I needed a dragon read for a challenge and chose this. I am glad I did. I found myself completely involved in the story, so much so, that my dreams were influenced by the story.
Only then did I notice the dragon waiting for me on the cathedral steps, flashing me his best facsimile of a proper human smile. No one in the world could have found Orma‘s strained expression heartwarming but me.
16 year old Seraphina, whose mother died when she was born, is now assistant to the
Court composer, who is in charge of musical entertainment for the upcoming celebration of the 40th anniversary of the truce between humans and dragons. The story opens with Prince Rufus‘s funeral. Since his head was missing, a dragon must have killed him. Mustn‘t it?

#TBRPile 📚 “I remember being born. In fact, I remember a time before that. There was no light, but there was music: joints creaking, blood rushing, the heart‘s staccato lullaby, a rich symphony of indigestion. Sound enfolded me, and I was safe.”
Here is my selection for Number 6! I love this series of books so much! People who are half human/half dragon! How cool is that?! Seraphina will always have a place in my heart, but Tess of the Road will always be my favorite of the bunch! 💕🐉
I might be the ONLY one who didn't get into this book. I found it boring tbh.
⭐⭐/5
This the kind of book I put down, coming back to after finishing the other five books I happened to be reading simultaneously.
But hooray! Unlike my un-updated profile is telling you, the only things I‘m actually currently reading are this and a non-fiction I‘ll probably post about once I get around to it. After this, I‘ll continue the other books I set aside during November‘s frenzy (Genesis, Lark Rising, etc)
Orma moved a pile of books off a stool for me but seated himself directly on another stack. This habit of his never ceased to amuse me. Dragons no longer hoarded gold; Comonot‘s reforms had outlawed it. For Orma and his generation, knowledge was treasure. As dragons through the ages had done, he gathered it, and then he sat on it.
I really liked both this book and its companion, Shadow Scale. The books fall under the realm of the fantasy genre and detail Seraphina's life as a half-human, half-dragon living among dragons and humans alike. She is tasked with trying to prevent, under overwhelming odds, the dragons and humans from going to war with each other. It was a lovely and very quick read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
At first I wasn‘t sure whether I would finish this one. Usually fantasy isn‘t what I normally read so when I first started I gave myself the first 5 chapters to decide. I wound up reading the whole thing in 2 days and I already started the second one!
Week 2 Check In #bfcr2 #justbookit @wanderinglynn
1/2 days of yoga
2/4 days of walking
5/7 days of Darebee Workout
Had family in town so spent many days at the pool instead of walking. Currently reading Seraphina which I should finish by next check in.
Also just had to show off my wee little tomato.
I‘m 2 hours in and I have made it 100 pages into Seraphina and so far I am loving it! I am enjoying the slow pace of storytelling, and how Seraphina is slowly learning things about who and what she is. The garden she has created in her head to control her visions is so far the most interesting.
I have to stop for a little while to help my friend but I will be sure to get back to my reading at some point today.

These are all library books due back on the 10th and I need to get them read just because I feel like I have had them too long. So let‘s hope I can knock a few out today and hopefully this readathon will get me out of my slump!
Starting out with the tagged book!

Here‘s to hoping I leave this life having never been referred to as “singularly stupid” 😂
Everyone forgot to tell me this book is unputdownable?! I‘ll never forgive you guys!
Bookworm mode back with a vengeance. 😊 Appropriately enough when the world is engrossing, the characters are believable and interesting, there is a sound, exciting plot, it is written in a whitty way, and there are dragons. 😉🐉 In all seriousness, I like stories that teach a lesson, and I am happy there is more. #justfinished #youngadult #dragontale #scifi #lovestory #findingoneself ❤️📖
P. S. Chatty likes to sit with me when I read. 😻
I found another library close by, a very helpful librarian, and so I came home with a small stack of treasures. Tonight, I am spending a few quiet hours simply reading. #newin #bookworm #libraryday #librarybookhaul #Imissedthis ❤️📚📖
Went on a little bookish outing with my aunt and grandmother 😊📚 I'd never been to this bookstore, but it had a HUGE selection. Also lots of games and movies and stuff.
We went to the library too, haul pics to come lol 😁
