Letters to the Lost
Letters to the Lost | Brigid Kemmerer
Juliet Young always writes letters to her mother, a world-traveling photojournalist. Even after her mother's death, she leaves letters at her grave. It's the only way Juliet can cope. Declan Murphy isn't the sort of guy you want to cross. In the midst of his court-ordered community service at the local cemetery, he's trying to escape the demons of his past. When Declan reads a haunting letter left beside a grave, he can't resist writing back. Soon, he's opening up to a perfect stranger, and their connection is immediate. But neither Declan nor Juliet knows that they're not actually strangers. When life at school interferes with their secret life of letters, sparks will fly as Juliet and Declan discover truths that might tear them apart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It‘s incredibly rare when a book makes me cry, but damn this book made me feel so many emotions. This was a quick read for me, but it was great nonetheless. I will absolutely be reading the sequel that takes place in the same universe.

🚨Be aware that there are mentions of abuse, alcoholism, self-harm and suicide.

I loved the way the book demonstrates how our view of others can hinder our associations with them. If somebody makes a mistake, does that make them an awful person forever. On the off chance that somebody is reclusive does that mean they are cold or uninterested, maybe they are just hurting inside. I enjoyed this book. Shows how we can be judgmental to others and to ourselves.

Two teens find each through letters. Juliet, who has recently lost her mother in a car accident, leaves her mom a letter on headstone. When lonely, brooding Declan responds to her , a strange but comforting exchange brings two lost souls solace. What happens when they realize who they really are? Compelling romantic story.

Surprisingly potent & deep exploration of grief and what it does to us, how it can affect you in so many ways, some you don‘t like and some you don‘t even realize. I liked how the author handled the main characters‘ journeys - they both felt very believable to me and even when they behaved badly, you understood why. I was also really glad that a possible twist ended up NOT being true. Picked this up thx to Merphy Napier on YT & glad I did. 4/5 ⭐️

A new addition to my favorites list. WOW! This one hits hard. I empathized with the characters and their struggles. The author was able to weave the story in such a creative way. I felt my heart breaking while reading. I devoured it in 2 days, down to the last drop like a kid eating ice cream. I will definitely look into this author's other works. (Technically there's a sequel but it's a stand alone.)
A MUST READ FOR YA LOVERS!

I LOVED this book. I feel like loved isnt a strong enough word for the emotions this book made me feel. Juliet and Declan are both fighting a lose and they find each other and help each other to fight threw that lose. Before they were both falling down a rabbit hole and once they start opening up to each other, a light is at the end of the rabbit hole. Amazing story! This is the best book I have read in a while. 100 stars!!

TLDR: two kids suffering through loss find each other accidentally.

Good:
Well-written
Strong characters
Emotionally complex

Bad:
Poetic outsider is a little cliched

This is a thoughtful look at the challenges of dealing with loss and alienation (as well as love) through the eyes of two teenagers.

This book was beyond expectations. I lost my mother a year ago and I am still working through my grief, some days harder than other, and I thought this book might push me over the edge. I was hesitant, but I‘m so glad I pushed through the first few chapters. Yes, it was about grief but it was above moving through. So great. Loved the relationship between the main characters. Highly recommend!

Lately I have stayed away from characters still in High School because of the inevitable teenage angst. However, today I came across a review from @ZN25 and thought, 'let's give it a go!'.

Surprisingly refreshing plot with easy to connect with characters. It is thought provoking, making you ponder human relationships and the things we never say to others in fear of being judged or shutdown. Definitely an unexpected and satisfying read! 🤓

I'm totally into the premise so far. 💛

MelissaJCrispin I LOVED this book! It hooked me immediately. The characters were complex and interesting, and I really wanted them to find their way to happiness, or at least a sense of peace. The torment that each of them was going through was more than believable. I adored Declan. I hope Rev gets his own story, too! 2y
