Hopefully, I can get the dog to stop barking for 30 minutes of quiet so I can start on this one today. Nothing is wrong with him. He just likes to complain when his meatball stash runs out and he has to eat Fresh Pet & kibble like a peasant.

#AnUnfortunateReadalong

vlwelser That's hilarious. About the dog. Not the lack of quiet time. That would drive me insane. 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @vlwelser On paper, I should get lots of reading time. I live with my guy & my dog and have a job. That's it. But I'm pretty sure the dog needs to bark at me (just me) for at least 2 hours a day, so he schedules that for the time between when i get home & my guy gets home. My guy needs to watch about 5 hours of TV at home and likes me to watch with him. I sometimes "work late" to enjoy the peace of a quiet office. ? 3mo
vlwelser That's intense. Maybe you need some noise cancelling ear buds or something. One of my besties recommends the beats ones but they're for iPhone. I don't use them because girl + public transport. 3mo
Kristendontleave very good but sad one..... 3mo

One more Violet, Krause, and Sunny must escape Count Olaf‘s machinations to steal their fortune. While dark, I enjoyed this book more than the first.

My daughter and I listened to this on our way to Savannah for the LLS book con! Tim Curry was amazing, this one didn‘t have the full cast. Lots of fun and made the ride go by so fast! It took up 3 of the 4 hours.

Waiting is one of life's hardships. It is hard enough to wait for chocolate cream pie while burnt roast beef is still on your plate. It is plenty difficult to wait for Halloween when the tedious month of September is still ahead of you. But to wait for one's adopted uncle to come home while a greedy and violent man is upstairs was one of the worst waits the Baudelaires had ever experienced.

This is the 2nd book in the Series of Unfortunate event series. This addition follows the 3 Baudelaire children as they go to a distant relative of the name Montgomery Montgomery. Escaping Count Olaf, or so they think. I love this book in the series. Perfect sequel and perfect for readers!

Rereading these 15 years later so I can finally finish the series. They still hold up, but I‘m also so old that I realize how annoying and unhelpful the adults are in this world. However, the ending did make me sad when they had to say goodbye to the Viper.

I really like the first two books in the series so far, I have listened to them both. Tim Curry narrated this one and he is fantastic, as always. While these are “middle grade” books, Count Olaf is menacing enough to be scary. Threatening to cut off baby toes and all!🙀 Wth? But I love it.

I really enjoyed this book. Even though it is clear from the very beginning what the outcome of the story will be, I still found I could hope along with the Baudelaire children that this time might be different. Alas, their story is rather tragic and filled with ups and downs. This one will stick with me. I will miss some of the characters, people and animals, that I was introduced to during this story.

I wonder what is going to happen next...

So much fun!
The plot for this story was much better than the first book. I loved the reptiles and snakes, plus I am always happy for a murder mystery.
I do feel like the ending could have been better though.
This was such a delight to read still, that I immediately bought the next book in the series.

PaperbackPirate This one was probably my favorite in the series. I need to finish watching the show now! 4y

Why do I enjoy this series so much!?

The Reptile Room is the perfect sequel to the first book in a Series of Unfortunate Events, which I also loved. Maybe I enjoy the characters, or how short the story is, or the vocabulary! Whatever the reason, I‘m already looking forward to the third book.

In this series, our orphans find themselves staying with Uncle Monty who is a bit eccentric as he owns snakes of all kinds and his very own reptile room.

Ash.on.the.line I‘m reading through this series too! 5y

Modern fantasy and was written in 1999. This book is about three orphan children that are about to be in some trouble. The beginning of the book has the children going to their new guardian, uncle Monty. Stephano, their arc minisious comes to take the children's fortune and in the process kills their uncle. The children set up a trap to catch him but he escapes once again

I've read the first four books in the series in both print and audio (narrated by Tim Curry) multiple times since 2013 but for some reason, never get much farther than that. I'm determined that *this* year, I'm going to make it through the whole series *and* watch the NetFlix offering!

Currently reading the second book (print this time for the illustrations by Brett Helquist): The Baudelaire orphans are off to live with their Uncle Monty

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love these and the twisted fun writing he uses. But yes, I also read the first few, then stopped feeling like it wasn‘t going anywhere... a bit repetitive....it wasn‘t until my nephew got to that age and read them all, that I read them all with him. 😉 5y
TK-421 I think around book 5 or maybe 6 or 7 things get shaken up a bit so it's not so repetitive, and things really get good - or, since this is the Baudelaire orphans we're talking about, things get really bad! 5y
Peddler410 The Netflix series is fun! I never read past book one when they were first published. I‘m doing them now as read- alouds with my daughter. We recently finished book six. 5y

I enjoyed this second book in the series even more than the first. It's more fun, and there's more feeling, maybe because that author has already established situation, characters and tone in the first book.
The story is simple but clever and very enjoyable.

I've listened to the audiobook read by Jim Carrey and it was fantastic. Carrey is also increasingly owning the story and it was such pleasure and fun to listen to him.

Congratulations @vivastory!
I'm paying tribute to the Reading Reptile! (RIP 😢).
For 10 years, I lived within walking distance to this amazing Kansas City children's bookstore. It was filled with books, paper machier sculptures, weird displays, games, and a cat. It was a big part of kids' childhoods. And through this place I saw Lemony Snicket, Jon Klassen, Jacqueline Woodsen, John Green, Rainbow Rowell, and more. ❤️💚💙💛💜🧡
