Fast paced and suspenseful. Deserving of all the book buzz it got. I enjoyed this one and I feel like I really need to read an Agatha Christie novel now (I know, I know-don‘t revoke my book nerd card please). The setting was great. The characters were well done. The audiobook was fantastic. No complaints here!

Meh... Lots of action but not a ton of substance in this one, which used to be fine for me but alas, my reading tastes- they are a-changing. About 1% of the population are born as “brilliants”-people with special gifts. The regular folks are feeling threatened, etc. I was underwhelmed by most of it. Predictable with flat characters.

This was... interesting? I enjoyed the world building but had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters (besides the psychic cats, of course-they were awesome). Decision making didn‘t seem to make sense at times and that is a big pet peeve of mine. Overall it was just ok for me. #bbbbc

5⭐️ for keeping me listening to this audiobook! Daunting undertaking at almost 41 hours and it‘s about building a cathedral in the 1100s. Honestly if it wasn‘t for the tons of people who have raved about it I would have given it a hard pass without even trying. But it was just so damn compelling I couldn‘t stop listening. This was fantastic. The first in a magical series written back in 2005 I think. I adored Yelena and Valek. They had great chemistry. The magic was interesting-I believe that gets more attention in the sequel. Supporting characters were also very well done. I really enjoyed following Yelena on her journey. Creepy bad guys, valiant soldiers, and a dangerous job (food taster for the Commander)...this book has a lot to offer. 4⭐️

Bookworm54 I haven‘t finished the second half of this series (yet) but I loved the first 3 study books and to be honest I have loved almost everything I have read by her :) 3y

I just got through my 2nd foot surgery in 6 weeks. I have had very little desire to post any reviews between the pain and the medication but after 33 hours with this audiobook I felt I should at least give it a shout out. The narrator did an amazing job with this brick. I do wish I wasn‘t so medicated while reading this because I feel like I missed a lot but it kept my mind off the pain. Alas no space dragons but Paolini does not disappoint.

I got this graphic novel version of Animal Farm as a gift. I had never read the original novel so I honestly can‘t say how it compares, but the drawings are delightful (well, except for the gory ones). Lots of great animal pictures (and a few pages of graphic terribleness). The parts where it gets real were a little tough to look through admittedly. It‘s not that bad but if you are sensitive to that stuff I would advise against it.

I‘m a little late hopping aboard the Colson Whitehead train (see what I did there?😉🚂) but I am here now. He has this way of making you sit with his words and really think it all over but doing so with textbook-like precision. I don‘t know if that makes any sense but I‘m going with it. I wanted more info about the tunnels and how the trains worked but alas I understand it is all a giant metaphor. So well done. Can‘t stop thinking about Cora.

Most #unpopularopinion of the year alert... This did not work for me. The only reason I am giving it a so-so vs pan is because of Benji (love that guy). Maybe it‘s because I did audio vs physical book. Maybe I waited too long after Beartown (the best book I read in 2017) to start this. Maybe my kids are interrupting me every 10 seconds and I was never able to get immersed in the story. I wanted to love it but there was no magic here for me. 😢

This was eerie... fever from a (no joke here) coronavirus wipes out 95% or so of the world population. The survivors have to rebuild from the ground up. It is Walking Dead without the zombies essentially. Although I found this too verbose in spots, it is an interesting take on the post apocalyptic genre. The ending was satisfying but somewhat abrupt considering the majority of the book is a long, slow burn. Overall I enjoyed it.

This felt a bit too much like a Scooby Doo caper. (I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn‘t for those meddling kids!) I liked the premise but it got too convoluted and outrageous.
