“First, second, third, HOME!“

This is a good poetry book for young boys because it is about the sport baseball. The poems inside the book are short and simple which makes it easy to read for young children. The illustrations also look like they are done by young children which helps the kids relate better.

MrBook Good to know! 👍🏻👍🏻 1d

This is a poetry book all about baseball. The poems go in order from the beginning of baseball season to the end of the baseball season. The poems also go in order from the beginning of the game to the end. This is a great book for young boys I would say. The poems include rhyming words and concrete poems.

The second volume in this charming series about high school fencing moved the plot along, but not enough scenes between the leads. More angst please! Can‘t wait for volume 3.

#2019Book83
This is my favorite of Alexander's books so far. He took my favorite character from The Crossover and made this prequel entirely about him. The beginning was heartbreaking, as were several sections in the middle, but the ending made the pain worthwhile.

Watched this documentary (Little Miss Sumo) about a woman in her endeavour to get sumo recognised as a women's sport in Japan. I seriously did not know that women were involved in this sport. #TIL

I picked up this recommended book expecting a football story, but it is about much more than the game. Teddy is a freshman who suffers a severe concussion at preseason football camp and is in a coma. The story expresses the joy of being part of a team, but it also addresses the dangers of building that team on a foundation of cruelty and competition instead of cooperation. 🏈

Daisey This book seems right on the line between #middlegrade and #YA to me. The description and language stay perfectly clean, but the characters are in high school. (edited) 1w

Kwame Alexander begins this book with his own athletic journey from basketball, football, tennis, where he finally found the sport that made him a high school champion. After this introduction, the book is divided into four quarters, like a game, entitled, grit, Motivation, Focus, and Teamwork. i would rate this book a 10/10 because i love sports and the book is all that and more.

Portergook i would recommend this book to anyone who likes a short read and who likes sports. 1w
MissYaremcio Great review Porter! Is this a biography or an autobiography? 1w
