I opened today my #feedareader package by @umbrellagirl. I'm so excited to start this book, this is such a lovely edition! The recipes you send are so interesting. I love risotto and your recipe for mashed potatoes is totally new to me, I would have never thought of this combination. I can't wait to try them!

@umbrellagirl your #feedareader package arrived! According to the information by USPS the package I send is at Frankfurt Airport since last friday. I start to get a little nervous but it should be fine!

I had a hard time deciding what to think about this book. There are poems that I love and pieces of literature I wouldn't consider to be a poem which are amazing. But I also felt that large parts of this book just weren't made for me. I never had to experience racism, abuse or the kind of relationships described in the book. I also felt at times too old for this poetry since it seems to be addressed more towards teenagers.

buecherwurm I still enjoyed it very much and it made me actually curious to read more poetry. This was such a difference to the poems read in school! 6y
buecherwurm @Annl This was an amazing choice! It made me think a lot. 6y
jwashreads I think it's beautiful, but feel the same way--it wasn't written for me. But I love what's it's done for poetry as a whole! It's kicked off a sort of poetry renaissance and made poetry popular again! 6y
Annl @buecherwurm Thanks go sharing your thoughts! I agree with you and @jwashreads . It was not for me, but well written and I am glad for the new popularity of poetry! 6y

Thanks so much for this book @tricours! It has been such a fitting choice. I loved the unexpected turns the story took and how the issue of Alzheimer was addressed. The characters felt very lifely and I enjoyed how they changed over the years.

This was some kind of a modern and more male version of Sophie's World. It's also much shorter and although it took about 5 hours to listen to this (134 pages according to goodreads) it felt very much like a short story. I have to admit that for large parts I were really confused about what was going on but overall I enjoyed listening to this audiobook.

As a teenager I always preferred to read Sherlock Holmes so I were surprised how much I liked this. The nationalism and stereotypes really were annoying but I truly had no clue on how the crime happened until the very end.

I liked the first book but the second one was even better. It actually included some turns I didn't expect and I felt the characters got more complex. At the same time I missed a character from the first book and felt some of the behaviours of a few characters were over the top.

I read the annotated version by #pagehabit. It was weird to read since I've visited Berlin a few times and don't associate it very strongly with its history and specifically to read about Berlin not in german and from a foreigners perspective. I loved the parts about Cuba and about the dentist. Overall a collection of very interesting and fascinating stories.

The Paper Magician | Charlie N. Holmberg
post image
Pickpick

I love the world the author build. It is set in the 19th century and the concept of magic is based on magicians beeing only able to manipulate materials which are human-made. Both Ceony and Mag. Thane are likeable and get towards the end more and more complex. What bothered me about this story would be a (mild) spoiler so I'll mention it in the comments under a spoiler tag.

buecherwurm So Ceony and Mag. Thane (her teacher) start to develop a romance towards the end. This is inappropriate and shouldn't be romanticized and specifically is totally unnecessary. 6y

This book just wasn't for me. The writing style felt really simple to me and I'm not a huge fan of the world the author build. There were a few things that drove me crazy (such as the “fforest“ written with double “f“) but overall the book was ok and I can see how others might really enjoy it.

This is how “forest“ is written in the entire book (so far) and it's driving me crazy. Why would anyone do this?!?

ju.ca.no urgh🙈 6y
Grise Why indeed? Is it the only misspelled word? Could it be some kind of clue? 6y
buecherwurm @Grise I'm not too far into the book but it seems to be used to point out that this is no ordinary forest. However, I still would have prefered this to be done in a different way and not by a misspelled word. 6y

Congrats @MaleficentBookDragon for reaching 1,111 followers!

I loved playing “Sagaland“ as a kid. It's about remembering under which of the trees a symbol of a fairy tale is hidden. Just as in memory my sister and I had an advantage in remembering the symbols compared to my parents and we loved the fairy tale themed world. For a long time we would insist on playing this game whenever we sat down to play games.

There are many negative reviews on goodreads and I understand (most) of their arguments. It is definitely not high-class literature but the book has some features which distinguish it from other YA novels and made me love it, such as the lack of a weird lovestory, the logical behaviour of the characters and that Sonea is not instantly good at everything. But most importantly, this is a catching story and I can't wait to read the sequel.

I loved this book! The development of the characters is incredible. It's amazing to see how those people get more close to each other and how important events shape the way they are talking. I felt somewhat shocked during most of the book at the shown abysses of humanity, especially because it felt all too realistic, but the story captured me too much that I could have stopped reading.

Thanks for the tag @julesG and for the giveaway @abbsinwonderland

It's a great question and I feel that others already found better answers than I could ever think of so here is what is just for me personally important. Since I tend to overthink things I tell myself whenever I did a mistake:
1. It happened and can't be undone
2. Others probably think less about this than I do
3. Just because I'm frustrated I shouldn't search the fault with others

I listened to the german #audiobook and I loved this book maybe even more because the narrator did a great job letting the different characters come alive. I had high expectations for this book but the author still managed to exceed them. The different characters, both the historic ones and the fictional ones, felt extremly lively and even the rather unimportant characters were more than mere roles. The book made me actually want to read more about Sarah Grimké, her sister and the american abolitionist movement.

This was an incredibly fun read! It's not perfect - there were certain topics Deutscher left out that I would have loved to read more about and others which he elaborated way too much - but overall it was not only an informative read but I actually enjoyed his writing style and his sense of humour. As someone who wasn't very familiar with the topic before there were some moments where I were truly amazed.
