JulietteReadsALot So true... We're so bombarded with bad news, that we forget that we live, for most, such a privileged life. Life offers so many beautiful moments, as you said, we just need to learn to recognize them, then to cherish them, and spread the love. 4d

Sort of historical fiction? Based on true events but entirely fictional characters. Overall a pick, only very tiny silly things annoyed me (you do not just boat home from an island off Connecticut to Provincetown MA in a couple of hours! You just don‘t!! And one convo really didn‘t “sound” right - like, why would she respond with “why?” at a particular admission, blahblahblah) - overall SOLID. I will read more by this author. #oct2025 Book89

Am motivated to get all my affairs in order as well as know what really needs to happen when. My niece is going through this situation and it astonishes me how one assumes things but have no idea of the logistics. For example, a company that offers 2 times salary life insurance… how and when is that distributed, does it get considered into probate, etc etc. I think I will purchase this - does anyone know of a more recent guidebook?

ChaoticMissAdventures I wish more people would do this! My grandma died last week and I am currently sitting in her living room with mounds of things trying to decide what to do with it all. I had to go through tax returns from as far back as the 80s trying to find all her paperwork we needed this week. Death is hard for the living in so many ways. 2w
BkClubCare @ChaoticMissAdventures - find this book, it at least can tell you what is first to do, and to breathe. Get LOTS of copies of the death certificate- you will want to have many. And… I am sorry. Many {{{hugs}}} it will work out. Keep those memories as a source of joy - she is still with you, in your heart. ❤️ 2w
IriDas @ChaoticMissAdventures I‘m sorry to hear of your loss. I hope your family can find comfort in each other and your memories. 2w

#BookClub for Tuesday, overall I enjoyed - if such a horrific story can be “enjoyable” 😳 - learning this was inspired by real people and true experiences. A few chapters felt clumsy but overall, I appreciate the renewed attention that historical fiction brings to “this really happened!” And why oh why do we not learn?! Caroline is inspiring with her dogged determination to do what she can for good in the world. #Sep2025 Book79 (Pic from May)

ncsufoxes My husband is an oncology research scientist. He currently is a PI at NCI as a contractor. He‘s worked for big & small pharmaceutical companies. He was in high level academic labs through his PhD & post doc. So he‘s been through lots of levels of research & drug development. Most (big) pharmaceutical companies are not about innovation or new ideas. They tweak old ideas. They are afraid to take risks, there is not a lot of incentive to take risks. 2mo
ncsufoxes Companies say they want out of the box thinkers but they don‘t. They want what they feel will make them money. Not to mention that FDA trials take years to complete & cost millions of dollars. Not that all companies are bad & not that there hasn‘t been some great things developed over the years. But currently research & drug development is not really into high risk. The current heads of the government too are going to start to pull back on 2mo
ncsufoxes funding anything too risky. RFK is clearly going to make sure that all vaccine research comes to a stand still. It is sad & frustrating to see what is happening to science. So many ideas & research is being lost. My husband‘s work directly impacts patients in clinical trials & luckily his preliminary data is all positive & will keep moving forward. But his postdoc advisor is at Columbia & all her research has been halted. 2mo
BkClubCare @ncsufoxes - I know, I am terrified. It‘s just horribly horrifically sad. 2mo
CBee @KadaGul YES PLEASE!!!!! How I wish 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 2mo
CBee @ncsufoxes and let‘s not forget how he said he‘d find out the cause of autism by what, September? Yeah, so how‘s that going, RFK? 🙄 2mo
Christine I love this book and hate the public health news. 😭 2mo
Christine @CBee I had just started teaching a sociology of science course when RFK said that about autism; we had literally studied the Andrew Wakefield saga the day before. 😭 We couldn‘t stop talking about it all quarter, the students were just incensed over it. 2mo
CBee @Christine my youngest son is autistic and I‘m afraid for him 😢 RFK was already bad enough, but now that he has more power, he‘s completely unhinged. And Wakefield? Oof - it‘s already hard enough to navigate life with an autistic kid - he did some serious damage 🤦‍♀️ 2mo
Christine @CBee I get your fear (and empathize - both of my kids are disabled, one autistic and one with complex medical/developmental needs. They‘re late teens by now and I‘m hoping our California resources endure...but I get it. 🩷💔). 2mo
CBee @Christine thank you for sharing that - it‘s always so helpful to me to find others who truly do get it 💚 If you ever want to email me, I‘m at cydneybean@gmail.com. 2mo
