My first book finished this month. Way way way off my average. I liked this one okay; I never quite got to that place where you forget you are reading and not noticing how the author is very skilled but I am not quite convinced. I did appreciate the ending, the construction overall. Four out of five (and no pie mentions, boo) 76th book of the year.

Jury Duty! Waiting for jury selection to begin. Estimated to be a 2-3 week criminal case. Looks like I might be able to make progress on my book.

BarbaraBB Exciting, the jury duty. I am always a bit fascinated about it because we don‘t have it where I live! 2w
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - will tell more if/when it is “over” 😊 2w
BarbaraBB I‘d love that! Good luck! 2w

EvieBee The only advantage of j- duty, amiright? 2w
BkClubCare @EvieBee - there seems to be some element of duty involved that is admirable. 2w
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - I was released! NOT selected. It took 2.5 days. Really interesting process. I am glad not to go through the actual case as a juror - the case was many many counts of violent charges. I forgot I was going to let you know about it 😬 1w
BarbaraBB Thank for telling me. I am happy you weren‘t chosen, sounds like a tough case - and a long one! 1w
AvidReader25 Is it weird that I‘ve always wanted to have jury duty? How was it?!?! 1w
BkClubCare @AvidReader25 - after 2.5 days of getting a starting pool of 60, to get to a true pool of 42 (and still have “extras”), I was NOT on the final list to be one of the “lucky” 12+2 alternates. I wouldn‘t mind a case of few days or less but the estimate of 3 weeks seemed optimistic. They had 50 charges to prove! 1w
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - I did actually make a few new friends; we exchanged numbers and mailing addresses so I might have new penpals 😊 or even someone to meet for lunch and book shopping! 1w
BarbaraBB It must have been an intense periode of time to make friends so fast! How often are you being called for jury duty? 1w
AvidReader25 @BkClubCare I think it would be more exciting in my head than in reality. 😆 1w
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - I think by statute, it could be every 3 years? But I know people who have never been called. Feels random! I have moved a lot. My mom hasn‘t - she‘s served twice in her 80+ years 1w
BkClubCare @AvidReader25 - like everything, “it depends” 🤣 Did you see my reply on… IG? With my address? 1w
AvidReader25 @BkClubCare yes! I need to send you a card. 😊 1w
BarbaraBB Interesting! Thanks for explaining 😘 1w
BkClubCare @AvidReader25 🤩 I started a postcard then realized that you have to send me first 😂 7d
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - It‘s interesting to me that the jury selection process doesn‘t get more dramatic treatment in books or movies. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7d
BarbaraBB It could make for a great read I think. I‘d read it! 7d

I love doing laundry - of all the chores around the house, give me laundry! But I also am NOT an expert. I am looking forward to reading this and finding all the perfect tips. 💕

DisneyFan Omg, I love laundry too! I even have a flip and fold and get so much joy stacking clean clothes in symmetrical perfect piles, lol. So happy to be able to say this aloud instead of hiding in the shadows. Stacked! (edited) 2w
mdm139 Laundry is my favorite chore too. Getting things clean, hugging warm laundry fresh from dryer, stacking them in neat piles. Plus when we designed the house I put the laundry room connected to the library so I get to sit and read while I wait for washer dryer to be done. I make a whole day out of it (and have a kitchenette in laundry room to make hot tea). 2w
DisneyFan @mdm139 OMG ! I feel like we just became best friends. 2w

I am bailing on this; I just can‘t read about Texas right now. Yes, I realize many wonderful people live there, but. Not for me right now.

Addison_Reads I can completely understand this, and I currently live in Texas. 2w
BkClubCare @Addison_Reads - I certainly don‘t mean any offense to the lovely residents of TX but … I posted on gr that I was DNFing because “I can‘t read about Texas” and someone called me on it. Wanted more explanation. I broke a sweat! Too funny. I just don‘t need any more of the Texas “landscape” as a character in my life right now. (edited) 2w
Addison_Reads @BkClubCare I'm definitely not calling you out on it. When I saw your reason, I instantly understood. I'm not a native Texan, and the things currently happening here make my blood boil and keep my anxiety at an all time high. 2w

Esther prefers reading eBooks on her iPad via the kindle app (than reading on her clunky Kindle) #EstherFest

This might be a 4star read but I think I will keep it with a 3star rating on gr — even if it did have apple pie — but it just failed to excite me after the startling “reveal”/twist. It was OK, it did get me over a bit of a slump, sure; but it felt flat like low-carbonated sodapop. Or something.

Oh yeah. This is one of those those books that is SO intriguing how accomplished it is! I‘m one of those extremely averse to knowing too much about plot/characters/spoilers/anything and sure enough, I wish I had known more. OTOH, I did know — vaguely — maybe? — about, the idea? Of a variety of view points and versions and perspectives, whatever, but it didn‘t make sense or enough that I gave it anymore than a glance of thought. What I did know ⬇️

BkClubCare That the ending was CHEF‘s KISS. So when it dragged about 1/4 in when I was getting bored, wondering WHY I was bothering with this, ugh... I kept at it. The last section really does pull it all together with delight and glee. Yowza and wow. (edited) 2mo

I was blown away by the experience of this book! Not knowing what to expect other than being safely in the capable hands of a writer-provocateur, I very much enjoyed the artwork, feminism, thoughts on aging, and discussions on memory.

I don‘t know any more about the series - does Winter give us the same characters?

I honestly can‘t imagine parents NOT wanting their deaf child to learn ASL. I said as much to my spouse, that I am boggled that hearings parents would be OFFENDED, embarrassed!! that their deaf kid could sign. Wtf?! And he says, well maybeinthepast… Um, this book was written last year. NO PAST, no decades ago. NOW. What is WRONG with people.

So, this quote speaks to me for some reason. #grief #awoundastonefruitrippedintwo

Ruthiella I don‘t understand either. I do have a former colleague however whose son is deaf and he learned to sign to communicate. The dad is in his 70s and son is about my age. So not all parents... (edited) 4mo
ncsufoxes I took sign language in college. My professor was deaf. She always talked about the struggles that different families faced (hearing aids, ASL). This was at a time when people were starting to get cochlear implants, which was a huge controversy in the deaf community. I went to college in Greensboro, NC that used to have a large deaf population due to the school for the hearing that used to be there. All I can say is after years of working in 4mo
ncsufoxes early intervention is there are a lot of parents that really struggle with accepting what their child needs no matter how many times you discuss the benefits or their child‘s needs. It is really hard to work with parents that are in denial & dismiss services because they are having a hard time accepting their child‘s diagnosis. 4mo

willaful @BooksNBowls We get them in the autism community too. Communication doesn't count unless it's the “right kind.“ 4mo
Suet624 @BooksNBowls that‘s spectacular. 4mo
BkClubCare @willaful - yeah…. Why am I not surprised that I often find people baffling. 4mo
BkClubCare @ValerieAndBooks - yay! Thank you for your perspective on this. I read your review. Cool stickers, too 😊 4mo
BooksNBowls @willaful oh I completely agree. My son is autistic and I am so grateful for every moment he communicates with me! It‘s hard! 💔😢 4mo
Megabooks This was definitely crazy to me too! 4mo
BkClubCare @Megabooks - and then that chapter from C‘s mom abt her own mother (hospital scene) OH! How hard it is to break out of family patterns … 4mo
CBee @BooksNBowls my youngest son is autistic - if you ever want to connect, e-mail me anytime (I‘m the one who sent you the Litsy Love form) ♥️ 3mo
BooksNBowls @CBee thank you! I‘ll send you something soon 🥰 3mo
CBee @BooksNBowls 😊😊 3mo

Just in from library, last book just completed freeing me to jump into this in for #CampLitsy (it killed me to miss this first half of the month discussions of HHWGitD but I will be ready for this one!)

Sitting on the back patio

sarahbarnes Still waiting for this one to come in at the library - fingers crossed it happens in time! 4mo
BkClubCare @sarahbarnes - timing challenges are so frustrating! But it‘s love of books and THAT is the best. 💕 4mo
BkClubCare @sarahbarnes - on the other hand, timing frustrations also interfere with the enjoyment of a possibly great book because I am more excited abt “next”. 😕 4mo

I am NOT enjoying the Anna parts - the going-backwards-in-time ain‘t working for me. But I am already heartbroken for the Anastasia storyline. I am about 75% in.

Hoping to finish tonight so I can devour True Biz tomorrow.

BkClubCare Also big SHOUT OUT to my friend @Nutmegnc for all the tips & tricks on image-creation. 😍 4mo
AvidReader25 I tend to struggle with books that switch back and forth in time because one plot line is usually better than the other! I just started it. 😊 4mo
BkClubCare @AvidReader25 - I saw you read and didn‘t like The Kitchen Boy. You probably know more than I do abt the Romanovs? 4mo

Hooked_on_books I didn‘t love the backward telling of this, either, but at the end it made sense. For me, this is her weakest book. Her best, by far, is one I strongly recommend if you haven‘t read it: 4mo
BkClubCare @Hooked_on_books - thanks! The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress looks good, too - especially because I know absolutely nothing abt it. (edited) 4mo
Nutmegnc 😍🥰 4mo
AvidReader25 @BkClubCare That one fell short for me, but I‘ve been thinking about it while reading this one. I don‘t love the Anna parts so far. The timeline is hard to follow! 4mo
BkClubCare If you can, and don‘t think it will spoil the experience, read the author‘s note 📝 4mo

AvidReader25 @BkClubCare I‘ll check out! I wish Anna‘s sections didn‘t bounce around so much. 4mo
