I‘m not surprised this took me over a year to get through - it is dense! But I really enjoyed how it put Mary and Elizabeth side-by-side to give more context for how and why their relationship was the way it was.

My fourth book finished in my #finishwhatyoustarted readathon

Catching up with last weekends reading and knowing that there are no more shardlake books, the stories of Giordano Bruno set in Elizabethan England are an enjoyable alternative. The 3rd finds our Italian ex monk going to Canterbury to save the life of Sophia, who has been accused of murdering her husband while his spy master Walsingham wants him to look into a plot to use the bones of Becket to start a Catholic plot. Good fun, historical crime.

TiredLibrarian I loved the Shardlake books, so this sounds good! Is it best to read them in order, or can I start with this one? 10mo
andrew61 @TiredLibrarian I think it's worth starting in order. Not absolutely necessary but you get to know recurring characters and themes. 10mo
TiredLibrarian @andrew61 Thanks; I'll look up the first one! 10mo

#BookedInTime Tudor England January 2025
@cuilin @dabbe

I have mixed feelings about this month's selection. It's an extremely well researched novel, with some interesting details of Queen Elizabeth's rein. However, I felt it was too long and repetitive. They talked about how Elizabeth did not want to get married, and how she held off all her suitors, over and over again.

dabbe Your score is on the spreadsheet! 🤩 11mo

Repost for @BarbaraBB

Hi all, the brackets for the #ToB25 are now live: https://www.tournamentofbooks.com/the-2025-shortlist

I‘ve been wondering if you‘d like to play along again in March and come to our own winner of the shortlist?
Please let me know if you‘d be interested, then I‘ll organize it again.

I am tagging some ToB regulars but everyone is welcome to join of course. If you‘d like to be (un)tagged, please let me know as well!

BarbaraBB You reposted already but once more certainly can‘t harm! Much appreciated 🤍🤍 11mo

#BookedInTime #BookedInTimeJanuary25 #BookedInTimeTudors

In the wake of the War of the Roses, the House of Tudor succeeded the Plantagenets. They ruled 118 years from Henry VII to Elizabeth I, succeeded by the Stuarts. The most well known Tudor being Henry VIII, with his six wives, and his daughter Elizabeth I, who reigned for 45 years. I‘m reading book 1 of Shardlake series. You? Comment, post or review at the end of the month!

ChaoticMissAdventures An incredible time. I am going to finally read 11mo

Cuilin @AllDebooks oh very intriguing 🤔 11mo
rwmg My most likely contender is the next in a series I'm reading intermittently: 11mo
Cuilin @rubyslippersreads I don‘t think any wife of Henry VIII had a good time, but I particularly felt bad for the teenage Catherine Howard. Enjoy. 11mo
Cuilin @rwmg Fabulous, looking forward to your thoughts. 11mo
Mollyanna I‘m in the middle of Revelation with @dabbe and also in the middle of Wolf Hall. Hopefully I can finish Wolf Hall in January. I‘ve read several of Gregory‘s books. They‘re pretty good. 11mo

#BookedInTime

I personally love this time period. So much drama and so much to choose from. Thanks to @rubyslippersreads for suggesting this prompt.

Bookwormjillk This time period has always been a challenge for me but I did find this chunkster unread on my phone the other day 12mo

dabbe I'll be finishing the #ShardlakeSeriesBR with the tagged in January. I'm thoroughly enjoying rereading these historical mystery reads! 🤩 12mo
dabbe Reminder to everyone: we have a spreadsheet with all of the books we've read! Here's the link:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sLpOtIgy6SwJkyU0wwno2MN4YUbe0ldjPwSusW3g...
12mo
Cuilin @dabbe Thank you, for reminder about the spreadsheet. I thought Shardlake would work for this prompt. 😉 12mo
rwmg How would you feel about a separate tag for announcements of upcoming periods to be discussed, such as BookedInTimePeriods? I plan each month's reading at the end of the previous month and I can't always find what the period is easily. 12mo
Karisimo @dabbe @cuilin I‘m definitely using shardlake for this one! (edited) 12mo
Cuilin @rwmg yes I can create a separate hashtag like #BookedinTimeJanTudors Would that work? 12mo
Cuilin @Karisimo I‘m looking forward to it but worried about adding another series to my TBR lol 😆 12mo
ChaoticMissAdventures This is perfect I had this one on my TBR all this year and kept putting it off. This gives me more incentive to pick it up in January 12mo
Cuilin @ChaoticMissAdventures loved that trilogy, perfect choice 12mo
dabbe @Karisimo 🤩🤩🤩 12mo
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures On the spreadsheet! 🤩 12mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk On the spreadsheet! 🤩 12mo
rwmg I was thinking of something more general. If I've forgotten the prompt, which I usually have by the beginning of the month, I can't look up eg Tudors. so I need something like BookedInTimeJan2024 12mo
Cuilin @rwmg Got it!! I can absolutely do that. I‘m not adverse to posting a few hashtags. 12mo
rwmg Thank you 😘 12mo
julieclair Love this time period! 12mo
julieclair @rwmg (and everyone) I have set up a challenge on StoryGraph that lists all the prompts, if that would be helpful to you: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/2cdac7b0-0085-4e6b-b601-f63cbd6... 12mo
kspenmoll I have Hamnet in my TBR so that will be my choice! 11mo
Cuilin @kspenmoll I loved it. Enjoy. 11mo
Jess861 I'm planning to read either The Wise Woman or The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

@julieclair - thank you for the storygraph add for bookedintime! I find it such a great tool to track prompts for challenges!
(edited) 11mo
Cuilin @Jess861 Enjoy!! 11mo

Hooked_on_books I just did my initial rapid scroll through the list and I love that there‘s always a number of things on there I‘ve never even heard of. I‘ve read 27 already but I‘ll be honest, there are books on there I do not want to read! 12mo
Readerann @Hooked_on_books 27!!! 👏👏👏 I‘m with @BarbaraBB. It‘s so much fun reading all the ToB “stuff”, I can‘t seem to get to the books. 😁 12mo
