Alternate Side: A Novel | Anna Quindlen
post image

The rumor is that Nora Nolan is going to leave her position as the Director of the Jewelry Museum in Manhattan, and work for her husband‘s powerful boss. Causes lots of friction in the marriage. #rumorhasit #anglophileapril

Reviewsbylola I really enjoyed the two Anna Quindlen books I‘ve read! 2mo
DivineDiana @Reviewsbylola Which ones did you read? 2mo

(Day 2 - #RumorHasIt)

For some reason, this made me think of some of the most outrageous authorial hoaxes ever perpetrated on the reading public. Finally, after considering several (The Hitler Diaries, anyone?), I landed on the weird, winding tale of J. T. (for Terminator) Leroy, aka Laura Albert. Humph. Whatever, for what it‘s worth.... (shrugs shoulders).

Cinfhen I never knew that!!! #LiveAndLearn 2mo
Mdargusch Interesting! 🤔 2mo
emilyhaldi I need to spend some time googling this situation! 2mo
Reviewsbylola Wow, this is fascinating. 2mo
gradcat @Cinfhen @Mdargusch @emilyhaldi @Reviewsbylola It is a very interesting story...you guys should check it out. Plus, there are a couple (maybe more?) documentaries out there that cover this subject. It‘s such a strange story, too! 2mo

Reviewsbylola Good one! 2mo
Mdargusch Ha! Works for me! 2mo
gradcat Smart choice! Doh!! I wish I had thought of her! 2mo
Cinfhen She‘s such a beautiful combo of her parents but man, do I see young Demi Moore in her eyes!!! 2mo
emilyhaldi Kind of a cool name, actually 🤔 2mo

Turns out there are quite a few books which have #RumorHasIt or #RumourHasIt as the title. Pictured is one of the many.

Reviewsbylola I‘ve heard of this author but never read her. 2mo
Mdargusch Great cover! 😁 2mo
gradcat I did not know there were so many books with this title—well done! 👍 2mo

emilyhaldi Love this quaint little cover ☺️ 2mo
Melissa_J @Reviewsbylola same here. I‘m not sure if she‘s considered chick lit or not, and I tend to stay away from that genre. 2mo
Melissa_J @gradcat me neither! Goodreads lists quite a few though. 2mo

#rumorhasit that Mary had something to do with Lord Darnley's murder. After reading this book I'm leaning towards her being innocent. #AnglophileApril @Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Mdargusch

TrishB It‘s another one of those historical conundrums!! I believe she‘s guilty- Weir and I don‘t agree on a lot of historical questions 😁 2mo
Birdsong28 @trishb @jenniferw88 Have you read John Guy My heart is my own? From reading his account of this episode I think he thinks she's guilty. I'm not sure myself 📚📖 2mo
jenniferw88 @Birdsong28 no, but I am definitely interested in reading other perspectives... #stacked! 2mo

Mdargusch So many rumors in that Tudor family! 2mo
rretzler I‘ve always been fascinated by Mary and Elizabeth and that period. 2mo
TrishB I‘ve read the Guy one. I also recommend this one , it‘s a great discussion point! 2mo
Birdsong28 @jenniferw88 Just be careful when buying it as you can get it with the yellow cover (the pic that is on here) or the movie cover and it just says Mary Queen of Scots on the front but it is the same book. My version is the yellow cover as I have had it a few years but only getting round to reading it properly 😂 as I used it for my Tudor History A level but only used certain sections. 2mo
Birdsong28 @TrishB It certainly is! I studied this time period of Mary's life for my Tudor History A level case study. That book you suggested is a good book as well. 😁📚📖 2mo
Cinfhen I love all the political intrigue 2mo

Asking For It | Louise O'Neill
post image

When Emma O‘Donovan wakes up on her porch, naked and sunburned, #RumorHasIt she acted like a s**t and had sex at a party, while letting the guys take pictures of her. In reality, Emma was taken advantage of, raped, and humiliated, and this book is a look at how a girl reacts to such a treatment.

Cinfhen Sounds like such a hard read!! 2mo
Reviewsbylola Wow, so awful. Sounds like this book packs a punch. 2mo
ShyBookOwl This sounds like an important and powerful read... but that cover throws me 🤔 2mo
See All 12 Comments
Mdargusch Wow! Sounds devastating! Reminds me of that same type of thing that happened in Steubenville, Ohio awhile back. 2mo
ElishaLovesBooks Wow, that sounds intense! 2mo
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola @ElishaLovesBooks it is tough, heart breaking, and it made me soooo angry! But, now with some professional insight into the subject as well, everything in the book is just way too common. It is sad, just sad... @ShyBookOwl don‘t let the cover scare you! The MC is described as a very popular, kinda mean girl type, which might explain the cover. Also, O‘Neill‘s other book also had a Barbie on the cover 2mo
ShyBookOwl @Kalalalatja interesting. Thanks! 2mo
Kalalalatja @Mdargusch it actually does have a lot of similarities to the Steubenville case, as far as I remember. Definitely a lot of victim blaming, a lot of shame and self blame, and a bit of loss of faith in humanity, as a reader 😔 2mo
Mdargusch I wonder if that incident motivated this author then? 2mo
Kalalalatja @Mdargusch I just found this article, where she, among others, mentions Steubenville as an inspiration https://www.google.dk/amp/s/www.thejournal.ie/louise-oneill-asking-for-it-interv... 2mo
emilyhaldi 😕 2mo
gradcat Again, another great choice. 2mo
