#SUNDAYBUDDYREAD

Hello ghost girl
Janie dies
The cemetery all the other girls
Still glowing
So she knows
And wonders the affects on her
She keeps the box
Doesn‘t bury it
What?!?!

Librarybelle I almost yelled at her for not disposing of the box! 5d
AmyG I wondered if that comes into play with Zorrie. Was she there long enough? Did she take enough radium? (edited) 5d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I wonder that as well. 5d

vlwelser This part was so sad. All I can think of during the radium parts is Marie Curie. 5d
IndoorDame When she asked Marie about the miscarriages I kept wondering if Marie was trying to make her feel better, if she really hadn‘t been there long enough for it to effect her, if that‘s what they thought at the time…? I mean today they tell you not to eat raw fish and unpasteurized cheese and a thousand other things, they would definitely frown on Luna powder 5d
TheBookHippie @vlwelser Oh I do as well. It‘s on my mind during these parts. I read her daughter‘s book on her it‘s very good … 5d
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I am wondering as well. 5d
BarkingMadRead I would have buried the box! I don‘t know if she was there long enough, but taking some with her and using it while pregnant couldn‘t possibly help 5d
mcctrish Would putting the radium in the ground on a farm actually be a good idea? I think Marie was being kind but honestly does she know? I have to think ingesting radium ended her pregnancy, did it cause all the other miscarriages 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have to say the jaw cancer absolutely horrifies me, the description of it just disintegrating 😲 (edited) 5d
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘ve no idea. Has to be sealed and all kinds of things correct? The sounds of the affects on all of them, so so heartbreaking. 5d
Karisa It feels horrible that the box of radium is still lurking. @mcctrish 😱 You‘re right! Burying it doesn‘t seem good either 5d
mcctrish @Karisa should have been left at the watch factory, it was almost funny how much work place theft happened #karma 😬 4d
kspenmoll Oops I resounded to this in the previous post. So heartbreaking. 4d
DebinHawaii It definitely brought all the feelings of The Radium Girls back. 😳🥺😫😭😡 I agree, I want to to get rid of the box but I have no idea how she could do that safely @mcctrish I agree burying it on the farm doesn‘t seem good. I am hoping she wasn‘t there long enough for more health issues than the miscarriages for Zorrie but it‘s hard to know with the ingesting of it. Truly heartbreaking @kspenmoll 😢 4d
Karisa @mcctrish Except for us teachers, we take things from home to bring to school🙃😂 4d
Sargar114 Such a heartbreaking moment. I‘m glad she got to touch base with Marie though. 💔 4d
julieclair I couldn't figure out why she wanted to keep the box. It just made no sense to me. 4d
maich Poor girls. Why she wanted to kerp the box. She probably doesn't know how danger is radium. The most stable radium isotope has a half-life of 1600 years. Decays on Radon gas isotopes, which are also radioactive and produce radioluminescence (fluorescent glowing hues). 2d
TheBookHippie @maich It is so very sad. 2d
maich @TheBookHippie It is very sad. Poor young girls that died because of it. I shared some links about radium if someone wants to read more. 2d
TheBookHippie @maich oh thank you so much!!! 2d
maich @TheBookHippie you're welcome 2d
mollyrotondo @mcctrish I thought the same thing. Not sure burying the box would help if the box isn't properly secured so radon doesn't leak out. When I read Radium Girls, the descriptions of their jaws disintegrating was so horrifying and I couldn't imagine anyone denying the correlation between the radium factory and their illnesses. So terribly sad and frustrating. 16h

Pickpick

While this YA Romance/Fantasy mashup isn‘t my favorite of Meyer‘s novels, the audio performance, the save-the-ocean subplot & the JAWS references redeemed this one! Prudence, a rather classic Type A achiever, narrates. As summer begins, she can‘t let her end of year bio project (and partner) go. Determined to reverse her grade, the pair start over with decidedly different results. A head injury also leads to some limited powers to add to the fun!

Clare-Dragonfly @Cuilin I betcha you would have done the same! 6mo
dabbe I can't help but think that a knife penetrating into a body is also a sexual act--in the fact that she “raped“ him right back and against his wishes. And right where he had no feeling--his heart. Wow. 6mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe I love that for her. 6mo
dabbe @BarkingMadRead Oh, man so do I! 💜💜💜 6mo
Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe Oh wow, you absolutely nailed it. Great analysis. 6mo

TheBookHippie This is such a sad sad sad story, and I‘m afraid it was and still is this sad for so many women. It hurts my heart. 6mo
Ruthiella This mutual infatuation with Angel makes me think of middle school crushes. Blech. He‘s not worth it. 6mo

Bookwormjillk Why do I think Angel will come back and tell Tess he was sick and it was her fault. 6mo
currentlyreadinginCO Yeahh... I forgot how sad this story is! My copy has a sweet little pastoral scene on the cover (with strawberries and chickens 😒), and I am chuckling at the contrast with the drama within! 6mo
Clare-Dragonfly Ugh, no one will leave Tess alone, whether they want to call her a slut, pretty, or ugly! 6mo

Cuilin #baronetisthepitts interesting family indeed. Older sons beware??? Yet I hope she gets to marry well. Hmm 🤔 9mo
mcctrish I am LOVING this book! How I managed to not read it is beyond me?! I still love Becky, I admire her gumption and I still thinks she‘s well clear of Jos. #whyareallthemendismalinvanityfair #beatsagnesgraygovernesswise 9mo

dabbe And another one about a governess with a crappy family (so far). Good call on that, @mcctrish! I'm also not sure how I feel yet about Becky. #thejuryisstillout 9mo
SamAnne I loved the Mysteries of Adolpho reference. I‘m laughing out loud a lot. I don‘t think we are supposed to like any character in this novel! 9mo
willaful @SameAnne I think you're right on the money there! 9mo
AnnR I'm enjoying the writing and comedic narrator, however not sure if I'm #teamBecky or not. I know she is just looking out for her best interests, as nobody else is going to help her. Sometimes she seems excessively uncompassionate and disingenuous though. 9mo
BarkingMadRead @SamAnne #onthenose @Ann_Reads Becky is definitely not your typical “hero” I‘m conflicted but I love her spunk! 9mo
Bookwormjillk Count me as on the fence for #TeamBecky 9mo
Bklover @mcctrish I am completely entertained by this book! I still love Becky too. 9mo
Daisey I‘m much more amused so far than I expected to be. Like @SamAnne I appreciated the Mysteries of Udolpho reference! 9mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead did I read somewhere that Vanity Fair is hero-less fiction? Makes me think of Sally Rooney‘s books 9mo
mcctrish @Daisey @SamAnne I haven‘t read Mysteries of Udolpho maybe we can do that one here 9mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish yes! My copy actually says it inside the cover! 9mo
rubyslippersreads I‘m #teambecky but maybe that‘s partly because I‘ve heard her compared to another heroine I “love to hate,” Scarlett O‘Hara. (edited) 9mo
rubyslippersreads @Ann_Reads I wouldn‘t like Becky in real life, but she‘s a realist and realizes there is no one to look out for Becky except Becky. 9mo
Bookwormjillk @rubyslippersreads good point. Definite Scarlet O‘Hara vibes. 9mo
