I hadn‘t expect to bail on this one since I enjoyed Vuongs debut novel, but there‘s that. This one too is well written but to me it was rather boring. Drugs and poverty are often a recipe for a repetitive story and unfortunately this story is no exception. I didn‘t care enough to finish it. I have to admit audio didn‘t help either, my mind kept drifting off.

Well that‘s another bail for me… I got about 150 pages in. There were some parts I thought were really interesting, but others felt like a slog. Oh well #hailthebail, on to something else. (Seeing other reviews here helped the decision.)

This is just not for me. I am not a fan of teenage narrators - especially outside of YA. Also their dialogue is so out of the realm of how actual young teens speak. #dnf #hailthebail
A #roll100 off the TBR!

This was my #BookSpin for November. The writing was just bad and though a talking cat in the first chapter got me interested enough to read on, no cats, talking or otherwise, appeared again after that, and I jumped ship around 35 pages in. I didn't care about the MC at all. #HailTheBail

Thanks to the publisher and Libro.fm for the ALC of this book! There is so much to love about this: BIPOC characters, realness of characters, the dreamy quality to the first chunk of book- I was really into it. However, I am VERY susceptible to second hand embarrassment and fear. I‘ve read the myths. I know what happens. I‘m sick to my stomach for Medusa and I can‘t go on with this right now. This is a me problem and not an I, Medusa problem.
