I‘ve been debating about whether I can keep up with another readalong, but when I saw all the Vanity Fair cover posts starting today, I couldn‘t resist. I‘m listening to this audio version, and I also downloaded the Kindle version with illustrations.
#PemberLittens #HashtagBrigade

I was amused to see comments about the untruthfulness of tombstone epitaphs in today‘s reading from both Vanity Fair & #DraculaDaily. #BookSerendipity

dabbe I've been cracking up reading this book! 🤣🤣🤣 9mo
Meshell1313 Yes! And I‘ve also been “wondering where Jonathan is and if he is thinking of me! I wish he were here.” 🤣🧛🏻 9mo

Daisey @Meshell1313 Absolutely! I keep telling myself that I would probably be hearing more from Jonathan if I wasn‘t reading just tiny daily snippets, but I completely sympathize with Mina currently. 9mo
rubyslippersreads I wish I‘d started Dracula Daily. Maybe next year. 🦇 9mo
Daisey @rubyslippersreads I‘m enjoying it, and so far none of the readings have been very long. As it stands now, I would definitely recommend it in the future. 9mo

I love it when the books I‘m reading intersect. Yesterday while listening to The Great Trouble, set in London in 1854, the main character mentioned North and South, my current #PemberLittens read. 📚 😁

megnews I love when that happens! 2y

Black Brother, Black Brother | Jewell Parker Rhodes

I‘m currently reading too many books, but I couldn‘t resist picking up this fairly short one while reading at school with my students today. It immediately pulled me in with a reference to Tolkien‘s LotR on the very first page. After a few chapters, I think it‘s going to be a somewhat difficult but important read, like the other books by Jewel Parker Rhodes I‘ve read.

Did any of you read Ready Player One, if so you are really going to enjoy this sequel, with a whole mission set on Arda. It‘s making me smile today as one of the characters says (paraphrasing)...I saw the movies and read the books, but I didn‘t read the 12 volumes of The History of Middle Earth, they are full of mythology, early drafts, & pronunciations of 3 different made up languages! 😂.

JoyBlue I can't hardly wait! It finally came up on my hold list yesterday, but I haven't picked it up yet. Any day now, I'll be ready to dig in! 😍 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JoyBlue It was a bit of a slow start, but then it‘s so good! I won‘t tell you anything else and ruin it, but it‘s been great traipsing through some great 80‘s trivia again...a fun way to relax this holiday season. I‘m really enjoying it, and I was surprised it came up from my library hold so quickly too. 3y
BookwormAHN I definitely plan to read it. I enjoyed the first one 😸 3y

JazzFeathers I don't know anything about this book, but it sounds like fun. I like your quote, LOL! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers Ready Player One is a novel set in a future where the real world has gotten worse, and most people spend most of their lives logged on to an immense online world where they spend almost all of their time. When the owner/creator dies...he sets up a quest to find the new owner....missions are like video game missions, set on any multiple of worlds, a bunch based on fantasy/science fiction worlds, video games, the 80‘s (since that‘s ⤵️ 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ when the creators grow up), so there are worlds devoted to just about any fandom you can imagine. It‘s a lot of fun with lots of references to geeky stuff, this one just happens to put one mission quest on Arda, and the protagonist is kicking himself for never reading the 12 volumes of The History of Middle Earth or finishing the Silmarillion. He‘s thinking why couldn‘t it have been on the planet for the Third Age, he knows that well. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers If you are interested, the first book was Ready Player One. 3y
Daisey I absolutely loved Ready Player One, but I‘ve been a little nervous to pick the sequel up. Your review makes me more likely to do so. (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey I haven‘t finished it yet either. It‘s a bit of a slow start...as you catch up on what‘s happened with the society since the last book ended, but then a new mission starts and it‘s just as good as the original, and again Wil Wheaton does the narration on audio which is great. But I had to laugh at the mission to middle earth and references to Beren & Lúthien, and the Histories of Middle Earth. Just a great reference for me. 3y
JoyBlue @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm starting it tonight—squee! I loved RP1, so I've been a little worried about the sequel. But, I'll definitely stick with it. Thanks for the slow start warning. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JoyBlue You are welcome! Enjoy! 3y
Taylor The Middle Earth part was SICK! 3y

When your library ebook is due back today, but you just haven‘t had time to finish it, and now you‘ll have to put it on hold again for like another 4ish weeks until you see it again.... but wait, miraculously it‘s on kindle sale today!

That‘s some great #BookSerendipity #Bookendipity especially since this was one I was thinking I should buy anyway. 👍

That rarely ever happens, like once every 20 blue moons, but I was really excited! #BookNerd

GingerAntics Oh, it‘s on sale on Apple Books, too. Are you enjoying this book? Im trying to do some more sex positive reads. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Yes, I really enjoying it...which sounds weird, but it‘s both no-nonsense, direct, but also funny at times. So everything you needed to know and they never taught you in health class, but also why some myths started and stayed because of lack of science, etc. And she‘s a gynecologist, so more trustworthy than some internet searches. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics If you pull up the book itself, you can see a few other posts by others who have read it and see if it looks interesting to you. 3y

GingerAntics I like that. Sadly, I got my sex ed from religion class, so I‘ve got some work to do. 🤣😂🤣 I heard of this thing along the lines of “Purity Culture Drop Out Support Group” or something and thought maybe I should do that. I‘ve got a collection of books, and I think I‘m going to read sex positive books throughout 2021. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Well then this is a good one to start with, because she actually starts at the beginning..diagrams, what‘s the name for parts, how they work. It sounds lame, but it‘s really not, health class was all I got, a lot of exercising is good, eat right, CPR and the 1 day they separated the boys and girls to talk separately....that‘s it officially. And when I was in HS, you couldn‘t google it yet! LOL however now you may be able to, (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...but the misinformation is pretty bad too. And she definitely talks about the Purity idea, where that stemmed from, and how it‘s been used by “the patriarchy” since, etc 3y
GingerAntics 🤣😂🤣 luckily I have some really sexy positive friends, so I actually know part names, uses, etc. Pretty much all the useful info I ever had came from people outside the US. I have another that seems a good place to start as well. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics So this one is, at least so far...know your body, know what‘s normal, know when they are just trying to sell you something that you don‘t need, to cure something that‘s natural. Etc. so a bible/handbook for your body. I have a few of those on my to read pile, so maybe I‘ll see if we have any match up? Right this second the other 2 I can think of that I have are 3y
GingerAntics I have Come as You Are. The Body is Not an Apology I‘m on the fence about. Maybe I‘ll see what you think of it. 3y
GingerAntics Another I have that just has an amazing title and sounds so good is 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Well, they all look interesting...maybe we‘ll both have to see how the other one likes their pile as they go and decide what to add from there. We both need more books to read, right? 🤣 3y
GingerAntics Obviously!!! Clearly neither of us have nearly enough books to read. 🤣😂🤣 3y
GingerAntics Honestly, I‘m just happy someone else is doing some sex positive reading. I was debating weather or not I should post on Litsy about that particular reading list/topic. I‘m feeling much better about that now. Thank you!!! 3y
GingerAntics Just got a recommendation for another book. It‘s got a bit of a shocking title, but the part that is actually shocking is that it used to be a title of respect for women before it was taken over as an insult. Stupid men. 3y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I was looking at that one as well. The audiobook is the same price as the ebook, so I‘m wavering on which one to get. I did get “The Body is Not an Apology” though. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics It‘s on Hoopla too if your library works with them. 3y
GingerAntics Nope, just Libby. Maybe the new one here in Moorhead does, but they‘re closed so I haven‘t been able to get a new library card. 3y
GingerAntics I just found a new book that sounds really interesting for this topic and several others, actually. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics That one does look interesting! 3y
GingerAntics It really does. I heard about it and knew I had to share. 3y

Pickpick

I got this book for 2 reasons: I loved Chang‘s Three Souls and this cover is gorgeous. The book itself didn‘t disappoint, although I can‘t say I‘m as in love with it as I was Souls. Janie Chang writes beautifully and poetically. The story was a bit slow in parts, but overall I loved Lian‘s story as well as the fantasy elements.

I recently read about the Japanese invasion of Nanking, and that‘s where this story starts. #bookserendipity

My next two Paris both briefly compare The Red Balloon and the Madeline books in the first few pages. #bookserendipity #buzzwordbookathon #paris

Lcsmcat I really liked Paris to the Moon. I haven‘t read the other. How does it compare? 4y
LeslieO @Lcsmcat The other book is fiction, I‘ve only just started it but no comparison at all! (Except for the mention of the picture books and being set in Paris.) I‘m excited to read Paris to the Moon because I loved Through the Children‘s Gate by Gopnik. Have you read that one? 4y
Lcsmcat @LeslieO No, I haven‘t but I‘ll look for it now. 4y
