This was a fascinating book by the author of Fifty Words for Snow, a book that I know many Littens have loved.

In 2010 Campbell gave up her job and spent the next 7 years in artist residences, all connected with ice and snow, including in #greenland. #readingtheamericas23

There‘s a lot of information & it‘s quite a dense read but a very rewarding look that explores many different cultural perspectives on ice and snow.

Really enjoyed this, although it‘s nothing like as quirky / weird as Nothing to See Here. I loved Frankie and found a lot to empathise with, growing up feeling like you don‘t fit in anywhere. I also liked the portrayal of how their seemingly innocent art project could grow into a national obsession; it felt really true to life.

Thanks so much for sending it to me Barbara! 😘

Cinfhen Ohhh, good use of neighborhood prompt ! I didn‘t think of that 🙊 1y
Librarybelle I was wondering if this was as wacky as Nothing To See Here…thanks for mentioning your thoughts in your review! 1y

Demon Copperhead: A Novel | Barbara Kingsolver

Pickpick

This book held me under a spell. I was completely enveloped in Demon‘s world and circumstances. Kingsolver set out to rewrite a modern take on an old classic and while I‘m not 💯 familiar with David Copperfield, you can feel the homage on every page. The writing at times gorgeous, is also so evocative of the 90‘s & early aughts. Demon sheds light on the opioid crisis plaguing Appalachia with love and tenderness for the people & place.

Cinfhen I didn‘t forget you @Karisimo 🧡 1y

TrishB Lovely review ♥️ Demon will stay with me a long time! 1y
Librarybelle Great review! 1y
Bluebird Your review makes me even more impatient for my library hold to be available. I‘m 614 in line for the audiobook and 1152 for the ebook. 7-8 weeks! But hoping I get a ‘jump the line‘ flag sooner 🤞 1y
Cinfhen OMG @Bluebird ‼️those numbers are nuts😱 1y
Cinfhen Thanks @TrishB @Librarybelle There‘s so much to say about this book 💕 1y
squirrelbrain Great review! I‘m a little bit past halfway. 1y
Kristin_Reads Great review! I‘m almost finished (hopefully this weekend). It‘s a masterpiece… so well written! (edited) 1y
Hooked_on_books I always look forward to her books. She‘s such a good writer. I‘ll be listening to the audio of this one when my hold comes in! 1y
Cinfhen I‘m a huge Kingsolver fan @Hooked_on_books @Kristin_Reads @squirrelbrain I think Poisonwood Bible might still be my favorite though this one was really special 😍 1y
AmyG Agreed about Poisonwood Bible but this one is a close second. I still think about Demon. 1y
Scochrane26 I‘m at page 332, so more than halfway. I never flag parts of a book, but I have little post-its in 3 passages so I can find them again. There‘s a couple of Kingsolver books I still haven‘t read, but I agree that this one rivals Poisonwood Bible. 1y
Scochrane26 @Bluebird That is a huge wait at the library! Hope you get it soon. 1y
LaraReads Wow! Love this review! 1y
mcctrish I‘m about to start this, I‘m only skimming the posts but I see a few people talking about Poisonwood Bible. I loved and hated that book! It was amazing but I wanted to throw it so many times because that man was infuriating 1y
KathyWheeler @mcctrish I loved The Poisonwood Bible, but, you‘re right, that man was infuriating! 1y
Kristin_Reads @mcctrish I felt the same! 1y
Hooked_on_books I resisted Poisonwood for years because of all the hype around it, then wondered what on earth I‘d been waiting for once I read it. It‘s marvelous! It‘s in my all time favorites list. 1y
Cinfhen I put off reading PoisonWood for so long too @Hooked_on_books and when I finally did…WOW!! Such a masterpiece!!! But yes, the father was 🤬🤬🤬 @Kristin_Reads @KathyWheeler @mcctrish @Scochrane26 @AmyG - I wasn‘t a fan of this book by her ☹️ 1y
Cinfhen Thanks @LaraReads I can‘t wait to see what you and the rest of the #Copperheads think of this book but I can understand why @BkClubCare is apprehensive- I was slightly intimidated before I began and I was worried about the hype @AvidReader25 1y
JuniperWilde Just starting. Great reviews. I read PB and then devoured everything she‘d written. Really looking forward to this one 📚 1y
Cinfhen @JuniperWilde I need to try this one again because I bailed and I think I‘d really like this book if I try again 1y
KathyWheeler @Cinfhen I haven‘t read Unsheltered yet. I had a problem with Prodigal Summer the first time I tried to it, but I read a few years later and loved it. 1y
Cinfhen Same @KathyWheeler 🤪 where you are in life definitely effects your reading experience/ I was too young the first time I read 1y
Cathythoughts Great review 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 1y
Cinfhen I know you said you‘re iffy about this book @Cathythoughts but I really think you‘d like it 🤷🏼‍♀️ 1y
Chelsea.Poole Love your review and love this book. I‘m nearly halfway but taking my time…makes me want to read the others of Kingsolver that I‘ve missed. 1y
AmyG @cinfhen I was not a fan of (edited) 1y
Cinfhen I know many didn‘t like Lacuna @AmyG but I loved it!!! I learnt SO MUCH 😁 1y
Cinfhen Thanks @Chelsea.Poole im so glad this book didn‘t disappoint 🙌🏻💚I was worried after seeing so many great reviews 1y
Scochrane26 I‘m almost done, only about 15 pages left. Definitely a 5 star read. This one will stick with me. 1y
Megabooks Glad you loved it! 1y
Scochrane26 Demon is going to be one of my favorite fictional characters. And his support system toward the end are great characters. 1y
Cinfhen I think you would have enjoyed this more in print @Megabooks I know I didn‘t care too much for the audio. It‘s just shy of 5 stars for me @Scochrane26 because I felt it was a tiny bit too long. I‘m very picky about length and editing but it‘s still a beautifully crafted story 🙌🏻 1y

White Egrets: Poems | Derek Walcott

Pickpick

I‘m not a huge fan of poetry but enjoyed this book, I think because they weren‘t too ‘odd‘.
The author is from #saintlucia #readingtheamericas2023.

Many of the poems are set in the Caribbean, but we also visit France, Amsterdam, the US and Italy, as in the poem above that compares summer on Saint Lucia and in Italy.

I‘ve managed to do another #quadrupledip with this one ⬇️ although I‘m sure I won‘t be that lucky going forward!😁

Cinfhen Well played 🙌🏻🎊 1y
