ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Don't miss the New York Times and USA Today bestseller and addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist that's burning up Instagram and TikTok--Freida McFadden's The Housemaid is perfect for fans of Ruth Ware, Lisa Jewell, and Verity. Every day I clean the Winchesters' beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew's handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it's hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina's life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband. I only try on one of Nina's pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it's like. But she soon finds out... and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it's far too late. But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don't know who I really am. They don't know what I'm capable of...

Caught up with the hype (a little late), but really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller. Like most in the genre, you‘ve got to suspend disbelief at times—but I definitely couldn‘t put it down. Perfect for getting out of a reading slump.

I liked this book sooo much more than Verity. The sexual encounters were less explicit which I prefer in a thriller. I was 100% here for the revenge aspects of this book! 🦷

AmyG Yes, I liked it better than Verity, too. 3w

Ok.. so I am pretty sad I finished reading this book. I loved the dark twists it had and how the women came out on top over an abusive and manipulative man. I loved how strong Nina was for putting up with it for the sake of her child and how at the end she didn‘t turn her back on Millie. Millie…. Oh man. I can‘t wait to read the next book!

Low pick. I almost bailed on it in Part 1, but parts 2 & 3 were worth hanging around for.

AmyG It probably was better on audio. I read it that way. A bit mindless but I could “space out” and jump back in. 🤣 2mo
WorldsOkayestStepMom @AmyG I don't have many opportunities to listen to audios, but i did find out that it is being turned into a movie! Release date is 12/25 of this year! 2mo
AmyG I‘d watch. Ha, we know how it ends. 2mo
WorldsOkayestStepMom @AmyG yes! I tried explaining the plot to my husband (I didn't do a very good job) and he said “it sounds like it could be a movie“. 2mo

Well, I can now say for myself that I do not think Fredia McFadden is worth the hype...

AmyG I am listening to this. I love mindless books like this one….I can space out and jump back in. I don‘t know if I could actually read this. (edited) 3mo
CSeydel I‘m tempted to try her satirical thriller 3mo
The.Great.Catsby This isn't my favorite by her. After reading The Housemaid, I read The Inmate and loved it. Then I read Never Lie, and I was sold. 3mo

Mid-week library trip! I don't remember who recommended the top one to me. I had to see what the Freida McFadden hype was about, and Orbital is the first book is Stephen Colbert's book club. I'm still so upset about his show being canceled.

After hearing about this book so many times and having it sitting on my TBR but never quite reaching for it out of fear that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. An addictive read, the kind where you just want to read one more chapter and then one more.I found myself reading it any chance I got, for me it was genuine page-turner.I loved all the little twists.Just when I thought I had it all it figured out,I realised I was not even close.⭐⭐⭐⭐

I approached this with a bit of a jaundiced eye since I know my opinion of many other TikTok famous books. It didn‘t blow my socks off, but I did end up enjoying it. I would read McFadden again.

Rachel.Rencher I'm going to read one of hers soon for the same reason. 3mo
ChaoticMissAdventures Good to know! My hair lady is obsessed with her and I have not been able to make myself pick one up. 3mo
Librarybelle I agree. I‘m not on TikTok, but the hype was so big. I liked this one and will read another at some point. 3mo

Devoured this book . Couldn‘t put it down. Easy read, great story and very entertaining. If you enjoyed, “Gone Girl” this is right up your alley. My husband also read it in a day and has now ordered all the other books in the series! Reading is a privilege.

Read this one as part of a Goodreads challenge
✅ couldn't put it down
✅ didn't see the twist coming at the very end
❌ struggled loads with the writing style
❌ somewhat annoying narrator
Still trying to decide whether I'll read the next one on the series

Listen, part 1 had me ready to give this a 3.5-4 star read at max, but that MASSIVE plot twist had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. The remainder of the book had me absolutely shook and the end came together neatly in a very satisfying way.

4⭐
This was my first finished e-book of the year. Since the hold for the Audio was so freaking long, I decided to read this on KU.
This is one of the better Freida books I‘ve finished. Maybe reading them is the way to go since I don‘t usually like her choice of narrators. It surprised me and kept me engaged, and I loved the easy-to-read writing style. I will be continuing the series…, but whether it will be on audio or Kindle remains to be seen.

Though the plot is predictable, I've enjoyed the story, the overall premise! I sure hope book 2 would be better! My rating is 4/5. If you like Gillian Flynn and Sandra Brown, you can give this novel a try before the movie is out. Yes, it has been adapted to the big screen 🙂

It's a page turner - fast paced and easy to read but it's messy, crazy, unrealistic and rather unoriginal. Unlikable characters but quite interesting story.

A mystery. Generally not my genre. Read it for a book club. It was adequate but not a read that moves a reader or changes their perspective or heart. Hard to believe it is a NY Times bestseller.

I read both this and the 2nd, and was equally as intrigued. It was easy to read and enagaging throughout with twists at every page turn. I thought the main character was strong willed and intelligent, something I particularly appreciate in a realistic female lead. Overall, I liked both books enough o recommend to anyone looking to get out of a reading slump!

I am addicted to Freida McFadden‘s amazing psychological thrillers. A former coworker/friend and I have been discussing our love for her books for the past few months. My friend is always raving about the Housemaid series, along with the rest of the reading world, so I finally made it a priority to start reading The Housemaid. It‘s so creepy and diabolical! I loved it!!
