Hello, South Korea
Hello, South Korea: Meet the Country Behind Hallyu | DK Eyewitness
7 posts
Korea is a global phenomenon. K-pop tops the charts, kimchi spices up meals and K-drama dominates TV screens. Now, it's time to discover more of the country and culture that's captivated the world. It might be a powerhouse of popular culture, but South Korea is so much more than BTS and bibimbap - and with this book, it's yours to explore. Dive deeper into the country behind Hallyu and discover why you're one year older in Korean age, who the incredible haenyeo divers of Jeju Island are and how Koreans became invincible at archery. Along the way, you'll get to know the people who've shaped the country and its customs, uncover the makings of the Hallyu and, of course, explore the global exports we all know and love. How did Parasite change Korea's film landscape? Why do K-pop fans send rice to their idols? And what, exactly, is the beauty ritual of "slugging"? Find out all this and more in this must-have book: the perfect introduction to this wonderfully varied country.

We just loved our dinner made with food from #SouthKorea

We had Korean BBQ, Korean dumplings, Korean black raspberry wine, and sticky rice (made in India). I didn‘t like the kimchi as much as I thought I would. It was fine but I don‘t anticipate eating it again. For dessert we had the Korean chocolate waffle cookies. We plan to have everything (except the kimchi) again. #foodandlit @Catsandbooks

mcctrish I am finally going to knock Pachinko off my towering TBR 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was hoping to read X/Y by Esther Yi to satisfy a challenge prompt, but my library posted some recommendations, and there's suddenly 7 people who have the book on hold. 😬 I have this other one on my shelf, set in the demilitarized zone, so I'll read that instead. 2mo
yourfavouritemixtape I am looking forward to this and will again be able to read something off my TBR pile! 2mo

I can't believe it's been 10 years since I started my Korean learning journey. I can't wrap my mind around it haha
I didn't expect to get this fair, especially with a language.
My mind has surprised me and my learning disability doesn't stop me.
This journey has opened so many doors for me and I can't be more thankful.
Here's to another 10 years and beyond!
Of course I've spoiled myself this year haha
