Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs | Walter Isaacson
The phenomenal bestseller about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs from the author of the acclaimed biographies of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein.Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two yearsas well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleaguesWalter Isaacson set down the riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. Isaacsons portrait touched hundreds of thousands of readers. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs still stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Although Jobs cooperated with the author, he asked for no control over what was written. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. He himself spoke candidly about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues offer an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped Jobss approach to business, the innovative products that resulted, and his legacy.

Great insight into the life of Steve Jobs. His bright and dark sides laid out naked by Walter Isaacson, who is hands down the best biography-writer I‘ve ever read. Interesting to know about Steve‘s passions and his inner demons. Give it a read.

I COULDNT STAND ANOTHER BORING WORD!!! I listened to this for almost 8 hrs per day for 2 days while I was working and it was putting me to sleep. Do not bother!

KathyWheeler I‘m reading it instead of listening to it and I like it. I haven‘t sat down and read it in any long sessions though. I‘ve been reading it off and on when I‘ve been in the mood for it. 3y

I read the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson when I was 13 years old, and wow did it leave a deep impact on me.

Can‘t decide if I should read this (Steve Jobs) or Long Walk to Freedom (Nelson Mandela) or Eleanor Roosevelt (by Cook). Thoughts? Pick my (non-fiction) book! Headed on a cruise with whichever of these and a fiction (TBD) book! I wish we had a “pick my book” thing... hmmm. PS: always a cat. #bookcat #pickmybook

I have always admired Jobs for what he achieved and the will and drive he showed in achieving it. Lets be clear, he was not a lovable person but I feel if you need to achieve something path breaking, you need to be ruthless and selfish, which he was..
The book lays down Jobs to his bones and lets you judge what to make of him.. Isaacson has held nothing back and he credits Jobs by saying he never asked to proof read the book before publishing..

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steve Jobs: eccentric, charismatic, brilliant, and empathy deficient. Often cruel, he broke the typical CEO mold with his candor and impetuousness. He was an asshole and he knew it. Nonetheless, his intuition plus his demand for perfection helped create innovative, life-changing technology. He also had an uncanny ability to spot products in second rate markets and make them infinitely better. It‘s a damned shame he died so young.

Leftcoastzen Agree ! Loved the book. 5y

Wow, the things I learned in this book. How lucky was Steve Jobs to be adopted by parents who understood his gifts? He was difficult. In the wrong family his life could have gone horribly afoul. I was repulsed and beguiled. This is an important book about an important man.

It is a tall order to pick just one! I narrowed it down to these:
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson - the best biography I have read, and of a complicated man
Circe by Madeline Miller - mesmerizing
The End of the Affair by Graham Greene - stunning
The New Jim Crow - fundamental must read about mass incarceration and race in America
@LazyDays #2018

LazyDays Good choices. I've heard nothing but great things about Circe 5y
Gezemice @LazyDays very good, highly recommend! (edited) 5y

Walter Isaacson is quickly becoming my favorite biographer. He delights with his focus on Steve Jobs. Isaacson paints a multi-faceted picture of the visionary. I‘ve long loved Jobs‘ ability to create simple and intuitive products. I come away begrudgingly admiring his obstinate focus and unwavering commitment to being an unapologetic asshole. #audiobook

Is it just me, or does Steve Jobs come off as a major asshole in this biography?

MsLeah8417 😱 6y
readordierachel My dad worked with him very briefly in the 80s and always said he was kind of an asshole. 😕 6y
GripLitGrl Every portrayal of him paints his as an asshole IRL just sayin 6y
Verity A lot of geniuses/visionaries are kinda arseholes. Or worse. Or at the least socially maladjusted 6y
dariazeoli What I like about it is he was okay with the author being honest about his assholish tendencies. I don‘t think he was under any belief that he wasn‘t one. 6y

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The ones who see things differently. They have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. But you can‘t ignore them. Because they change things. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

(Does it take insane people to make insanely great things?) Actually, making an insanely great product has a lot to do with the process of making the product, how you learn things and adopt new ideas and throw out old ideas. But, yeah, the people who made Mac are sort of on the edge. - Steve Jobs, 1985
