In this epic (The Denver Post) sequel to The Pillars of the Earth, it is now two centuries after the townspeople of Kingsbridge have finished building its exquisite Gothic cathedral. And on a cold November day, four children slip into the forest and witness a killingan event that will braid their lives together by ambition, love, greed, and revenge....

Summer is finally here and that means I have time to plunge into the long-awaited World Without End.

I have had this on my shelf for years but needed a nice empty summer to feel like I could get stuck into it.

Need to garden... but a little read beforehand won't hurt. Just for 5 minutes ☺

Finally finished the one and I must say I enjoyed it more than the first book in the series, Pillars of the Earth. I did mostly audio and the narrator was wonderful. I think his character voices are part of the reason I really hated certain characters. While the book is quite long, the author did a great job of telling the stories of several main characters, spanning over 30 years. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book was quite an investment in time. It's taken me longer I'd hoped to get through this, but schedule has been a bit crazy.
I enjoy Ken Follett books and liked reading this 2nd book in the kingsbridge series, but will say that I found it dragged a bit. I would recommend with the disclaimer of it being a little slow.

Freespirit I am reading number 3 in the series A Column of Fire. It's another 900 pager...but I do love his books😊 5mo

Follet is such a masterful storyteller. Every single one of his characters come to life in his stories. You root for the good people. You despise the bad ones. Even though this book was so long, I found myself wallowing a bit in it at the end, not wanting to be finished. That's the mark of a great author. I will always recommend his books.

4.5 stars, only because of was a bit hard to get into. It took me 4-5x of starting and putting it down over the past year before I finally got into it, but then (even after over a thousand pages) I didn't want it to end! Have you ever read a book where the world was so vividly described that years later you forget if you saw the movie or read the book? Kingsbridge was so masterfully realized that I have a feeling this will be one of those gems.

A worthy sequel to my favourite novel, The Pillars of the Earth. This book has secrets, clandestine affairs, murder, romance, and a lot of drama all set in the 14th century. Add in one of the most dangerous diseases to ravage Europe and you‘ve got a great novel! As usual, Follett did an impeccable job researching and the details of the characters and locations bring them to life. This is definitely another one of my favourite books!

D-O-N-E!! 😁😁 Just as good as the first book, Pillars of the Earth, this was five stars for me. The characters were so vivid and I was right there cheering some on while cursing some others. It has been a long time since I read The Pillars of the Earth, but I finally got around to this next installment of the Kingsbridge series. Despite it being a chunkster, I devoured it. It had great characters and an engaging story. This author creates characters that exemplify the best and the worst that humanity has to offer. The story covers decades in this town and offers romance, politics, mystery, and intrigue. #MountTBR

This was a great follow up to Pillars of the Earth. Follett still tends to get a little over descriptive and wordy sometimes but he is such a magnificent story teller that I don't mind it.

These characters make me so mad sometimes, but that is what keeps me coming back. I feel like I know them. The characters are so well developed that I feel like I am a part of their story (gratefully, I am not -- tough times). It is Follett's gift that he puts his reader into the mind and perspective of each different character flawlessly from chapter to chapter. This was was longer than I wanted it to be but the last 300 pages flew by for me.

This was longer (!) than The Pillars Of The Earth, & took me a bit longer to get a grip on all characters and the story. However once I did the book just grabbed me and never let me go. There are times in these books you just want to grab some characters off the page do them serious harm or give them a good talking to! They are very long books but DO NOT let that put you off reading them as they are excellent books with great characters & stories.
