Run, Rose, Run
Run, Rose, Run: A Novel | James Patterson, Dolly Parton
From America's most beloved superstar and its greatest storyteller--a thriller about a young singer-songwriter on the rise and on the run, and determined to do whatever it takes to survive. Every song tells a story. She's a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her. She's also on the run. Find a future, lose a past. Nashville is where she's come to claim her destiny. It's also where the darkness she's fled might find her. And destroy her. Run, Rose, Run is a novel glittering with danger and desire--a story that only America's #1 beloved entertainer and its #1 bestselling author could have created.

Who doesn‘t love Dolly? Had to check this book out. Very entertaining and lots of fun Nashville references. A predictable premise: a pretty, feisty, resourceful heroine seeks her big break in Music City while running from her past. But it‘s a diverting, easy read with Dolly‘s fingerprints all over it.

Ehhh. Extremely simplistic writing. Characters weren‘t well developed, even mildly irritating in their one dimensionality. The thriller elements were sort of scotch taped together and didn‘t always even make sense. I love Dolly, so I finished. All the song writing was phenomenal. The rest was barely tolerable. Sorry to say!!

Bren912 Sadly, i am led to believe this author has people penning under his name and tutelage. Feels like such different writing than in early years. 6d
MMFinck @Bren912 I don‘t read a lot of him. I did read his women‘s fiction way back and enjoyed it. I really wanted to like this one. Oh well! Onto the next book! :) I‘m reading The Paper Palace rn. Phenomenal! 5d

When one of my favourite authors co writes a book with one of my favourite singers of all time, I just had to read it. An enjoyable thriller I found myself caught up in the world of a country music singer trying to get her big break whilst also hiding from something ominous in her past. Well paced and everything a James Patterson reader would expect. I couldn't help but hear the lyrics being sung in Dolly's amazing voice.

Oh no. No, no, no. Another day happy that I have never supported this white man who doesn't even write his own book but hires a team of ghost writers he gives zero credit to.

tokorowilliamwallace Yeah, I guess he's not hurting for money; he can safely retire on his wealth. But this is the fault of publication houses promoting and advertising for money makers. It's many, if not all popular authors who churn out new publications so quickly for their fans. Nobody believes these cowriting partnerships. This is actually a subplot in Sandra Brown's Envy, about an family-run publication trying to be bought out by this global media conglomerate. 2w

What a great read! In my head Ruthann‘s was Dolly herself. I just heard that they are making it into a movie! Stayed up and read the last 100 pages late at night.

This is light-handed on the thriller aspect. It‘s definitely more focused on the story of the up-and-coming country music star and the inner workings of the country music business. But I enjoyed it! I don‘t think I‘ve ever read James Patterson and I‘d check out some of his other books. I don‘t like country music but I ❤️ Dolly Parton so much that I listened to the accompanying album! And she‘s the reason I bought the book!

#bookspinbingo

ChaoticMissAdventures I think the thing to keep in mind if you go on to read more Patterson is that he doesn't actually write the books. He hasn't for decades. Instead he has a team of ghost writers and they write it and he slaps his name in it, because his name is a brand. 1mo

It says this is a thriller. I definitely wouldnt call this a thriller.
It built up for 400 pages for the ending to be a few pages and a total let down. The build up was a lot and it really kept you in the dark. Youre not even able to guess whats happening because theres no explanation and no names to characters so youre expecting this big bombshell at the end and it just fell flat. Felt almost rushed. It got me out of my reading slump though!

Always meant to read a Patterson out of curiosity, and this Dolly Parton co-authored book seem like the perfect one. It's not my thing, but I can definitely see the appeal. Glamour, romance, excitement, intrigue, a light and easy read. I won't be reading another, but I enjoyed how Dolly's voice was well captured and the way her experiences were captured through the Nashville journeys of two characters.

While I enjoyed it, my last impression was how simplistic all the words & dialog was. Weird right? Like as I'm reading it I know I could have handed it to my elementary aged kids and they would have had zero problems pronouncing the words, though the ending would have been a bit much for them. I am intrigued enough to go hunt down the songs now.

I don‘t read James Patterson, but I can‘t resist Dolly Parton. That‘s good bc this is mostly about the business of country music. You can really tell those are Dolly‘s parts of the book. The thriller aspect is only sprinkled in. The MC, AnnieLee, is stubborn to the point of annoyance but still I wanted to see how things turned out, and what her secret was. Ruthanna, the Dolly stand-in, was fun. If you liked the show Nashville you will like this.

Exactly what you‘d expect in all the best ways! It‘s a bit light on the thriller and heavy on the rising country star but Patterson injected enough of himself for this to not be too sparkly. The biggest disappointment is that Patterson doesn‘t make an appearance on the album 😋

This was less thriller-y than other JP books. Still an entertaining read though. There is a main character who is absolutely based off of Dolly Parton.

AnnieLee‘s journey to stardom is full of grit and lucky breaks. I appreciate how stubborn/strong she is. Though she gets in her own way a few times. I am not a country music fan, so it was fun learning more about the nuances of the genre.

I‘m a huge Dolly fan so I just had to read this. I got sucked into the story of aspiring country music artist AnnieLee Keyes and her struggles. I think people who are reading this more for James Patterson might be disappointed because the thriller aspect was only about 5% of the story & was almost anti-climatic. But I loved the rest of it. I can see Dolly‘s hand all over it so it seems like a legit snapshot of trying to make it big in Nashville ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Dolly also released 12 songs on Spotify that she wrote especially for this book. I listened to them and they‘re quite good! So, bottom line: if you‘re interested in country music I think you‘ll love this, if you‘re there for the thrills you might be disappointed. 4.5⭐️ #DollyParton #JamesPatterson 3mo

I struggled so much with this book. James Patterson is one of my must read authors and I love Dolly Parton. I was so excited when I heard about this book and I really wanted to love it. However, it fell short with me. Overall the story was okay. The characters were okay. The plot was okay. It was just okay for me. I found myself very disappointed that it wasn‘t all I wanted it to be and all it was hyped up to be.

Caroline2 Oh no! That is disappointing to hear. 😑 I was looking forward to this one too. 3mo

3½⭐
Overall, it was kind of slow and the thriller parts were definitely not where it shined. It reads more like a contemporary with a splash of romance & some thriller-like moments. The narration was fantastic, though. Personally, I was there for the romance and I would‘ve liked the focus on that much more. If you ask me, this could have been so much better if DP had partnered with an author who specializes in romance, like CoHo instead of JP.

I got out of my usual genre for American hero Dolly Parton and patron saint of indie bookstores James Patterson! I listened on 2x speed and enjoyed the full cast of this audiobook full of mystery, action, but mostly behind the scenes stories from country music capital Nashville. The accompanying album of 12 original songs by Dolly Parton is also a major draw! Formulaic but fun 😊

Zoes_Human This will be my first James Patterson book ever, because, Dolly Parton. Just waiting my turn on the holds list. 3mo

This pure, guilty pleasure fun! An up and coming country singer navigates through the music biz and deals with unsavory characters and a secret. It's not Shakespeare but I'm a Dolly fan and no one should take it seriously. Think of it as a homage to trashy novels like Jackie Collins, Judith Krantz or Danielle Steele. It's a complete soap opera!

This was an easy, predictable read, I went in asap on a Dolly Parton/James Patterson collaboration. I would have chosen a different ending but then again I don‘t make millions writing books or country music! Dolly narrates RuthAnna, but I saw her in AnnieLee, as well. I remember a Dolly interview from years ago where she explained that she never - never - sold her songs not even when she was unknown and a famous Elvis requested a purchase.
