Another one done .. and I have to say I have mixed feelings for this one .. I finished it because that‘s what I do lol! Would I recommend it?? I don‘t know 🙈 .. it‘s a satirical look at WWII.

Definitely an anti war story and I definitely spent some time on spark-notes trying to understand different points.. overall loved Vonnegut‘s writing and how he draws you in to the point where you feel a little crazy too!

I started out loving this book; I wanted to hear more about the bombing of Dresden....then I got so confused with the crazy writing style that I wanted to bail...then I fell into it‘s weirdness and now I‘m devastated! 😢 What a powerful book! Loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BkClubCare I devoured Vonnegut books in HS; I need to reread Cats Cradle someday 2w
jchawkins I've never come across another author who loves humanity as much as Vonnegut, or who hates people as much as Vonnegut. He is something else. 2w
Blaire @BkClubCare same! I went through a huge Vonnegut phase in high school and now haven‘t read one in prob 20 years. 2w

BkClubCare @Blaire - me, too. Tho I did recently reread Slaughterhouse because I couldn‘t remember it. I think I found a copy and felt compelled? I usually don‘t reread. 2w

Caroline2 @BkClubCare @Blaire Vonnegut isn‘t really taught in UK high schools so I‘ve never read him before. But he is completely unique eh!!! 👍🏻 2w

I took a picture of my italian edition.. here's the same quote in english found on Goodreads:
" - Why me?
- That is a very Earthling question to ask, Mr. Pilgrim. Why you? Why us for that matter? Why anything? Because this moment simply is. Have you ever seen bugs trapped in amber?
- Yes.
- Well, here we are, Mr. Pilgrim, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why.”

Probably my favorite of the books I‘ve read by Vonnegut so far. I had high expectations going in, and I wasn‘t disappointed. There was a lot of time jumping in the book, but I never got confused as to when I was. (Cough Mrs. Dalloway cough) It was definitely worth the read.

#BarnesandNoblebookhaul today! Weirdly enough, it was my idea again to go book shopping! But of course the wife, @TheBookAddict is always down to get bookish! She found me the Keto cookbook, and it has some awesome recipes in it. I just started reading Slaughterhouse-Five tonight, and the first chapter is all a dedication it seems...smh...(22 pages) but I'm excited for the story. I've heard great things.

The novel itself is as absurd as the firebombing of Dresden, or WWII in it's all, or war "tout court".
The writing is exceptional.

This was a bizarre read and it took me half the book to really get into it, but when I got to that point, I ended up liking it. I think this is one of those books that could benefit from a reread at some point now that I know what to expect from it.

One of my all time favorite books. Just reread this with book club in honor of the 50th anniversary of its publication. This is truly a masterwork. The tone and up and down pacing. The multilayered metaphors. Further, I am just am awed by Vonnegut's humanity. He gets us and is able to explain, so it goes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This month marks the 50th anniversary of Slaughterhouse-Five‘s publication, so it was time for another #reread. Billy Pilgrim becomes unstuck in time and takes us on a bizarre yet poignant journey exploring the brutality of war and, as often with KV, free will and humanity itself. This is one of the few time travel novels I can get down with. Vonnegut is one of my favorites and it‘s always a pleasure revisiting his books.

This remarkable novel is now fifty years old. I was reminded of that when I read a poignant essay about its importance by the immensely gifted novelist Kevin Powers in the New York Times . This is my personal copy, a first edition from 1969, that once belonged to my mother — one of the world‘s great readers. I love how many books in my library once belonged to her. It‘s a deep and important connection.

I didn‘t expect to like this book. I don‘t typically reach for novels discussing war but I actually really liked it. I enjoyed how Billy time traveled and saw different parts of his life. Currently rereading Slaughterhouse Five with a friend. Slaughterhouse Five was the first book after high school and college that reminded me why I loved (non-assigned) reading. It‘s weird, there is time travel, World War II, and a zoo on another planet. The story is told out of order. The narrator is unreliable. Probably. I enjoyed it, but should probably read it again to catch things I probably missed before I sorted out what was going on. #1001books #1000books

LizH I‘ve read it several times and every time I see something new. I think my inner ADHD child loves the circular-backward-inside-outside-upside down writing style 🤷🏼‍♀️ if you liked this, try any of his others. (edited) 6mo
AudreyMorris @LizH I do like the inside out lack of linear storytelling. I generally prefer non-linear fiction, especially if there is only one narrator. 6mo
