Pickpick

Set in a rural Minnesota town in the 50s. The body of one of the most hated men in the town is found in the river. Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies both to themselves and others.
This was a good story and the writing was good.
Recommend.

From the moment Sheriff Brody Dern sees the body of Jimmy Quinn, he knows something isn‘t right. Suicide, murder, accident—everyone has a different theory but if it was murder, everyone knows who did it. Or thinks they do… Unraveling the truth of that night will expose secrets, reveal simmering prejudices, & pull in the innocent & not so innocent. Another wonderful story with a fantastic setting & wonderful characters. Krueger never disappoints.

Started this today and I just have to say, Krueger always comes with the hook—immediately—that makes the book impossible to put down. Anyway, yeah, it‘s off to a great start.

The book begins on Decoration Day in the late 1950s, and the town of Jewel, Minnesota is celebrating. On the banks of the Alabaster River, a body is discovered. The murder reopens old wounds of the townspeople. 4.5⭐️

I really enjoyed this one. The storyline flowed like the river in its title. I would describe this as a quiet, slower moving book- delightful for summer reading.

Wolf Hollow, by Lauren Wolk (2016)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Premise: A girl in mid-1940s Pennsylvania has to grow up quickly after the arrival of a new girl in town sets off a series of events with lasting consequences for everyone.

Review: This is one of the best middle-grade novels I‘ve read. Cont.

Mattsbookaday It handles complex and difficult subject matter with a lot of care and nuance, and its themes of judgment, appearances, and the consequences of our actions are extraordinarily well-handled.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How is this one? 6mo
Karisimo @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks it‘s a slow murder mystery set in post WWII Minnesota. My book club of mostly women thought it would be more appreciated by male readers. Most of our discussion focused on the characters. I liked it fine, but wasn‘t wowed! (edited) 6mo
