pickThis book has been on my to-read-list for FOREVER. I never started it because, frankly, it intimidated me. But, oh, it‘s worth it. I absolutely devoured this book, reading it faster than I logically should have been able to during a test-heavy school week. Though I didn‘t necessarily LOVE the Hawthorne brothers, their personalities and characters generally were so well-written and interesting. I‘m definitely reading the next two!

“Where are you going?” I asked him. After everything it had taken to get to this point, he couldn‘t just walk away.
“To hell, eventually.”
“You don‘t know when to stop, do you, Heiress?” That didn‘t exactly feel like an indictment.
“I‘m tougher than I look.”
I didn‘t want to be the glass ballerina or the knife. I wanted to prove, at least to myself, that I was something.
Jameson May have been done with the game, but I wanted to win.
“You don‘t have to kiss me. You don‘t even have to like me, Heiress, but please don‘t make me do this alone.”
“I said she was delightfully vindictive,” Xander replied innocently.
“If I were a boy,” Thea told him with a Southern belle smile, “people would just call me driven.”
“Why do I have to tell a story?” I asked.
“Because if you don‘t tell the story, someone else will tell it for you.”
“Everything‘s a game, Avery Grambs. The only thing we get to decide in this life is if we play to win.”
“Sometimes,” Jameson Hawthorne said, sounding strangely contemplative, “things that appear very different on the surface are actually exactly the same at their core.”
“I think you should leave,” Grayson told me curtly. Not a request. An order.
“Technically…” Alisa Ortega sounded like she‘d just swallowed arsenic. “It‘s her house.”
“The remainder of my estate,” Mr. Ortega read, “including all properties, monetary assets, and worldly possessions not otherwise specified, I leave to Avery Kylie Grambs.”
“If yes is no and once is never, how many sides does a triangle have?”
“Take it from someone who‘s both been there and done that—never lose your heart to a Hawthorne.”
“Don‘t worry,” I told her, as annoyed with her assumption as I was with the fact that she‘d been able to see any trace of my thoughts on my face. “I keep mine under lock and key.”
so-soI liked this book a lot! I didn‘t love it though. And that was only because we didn‘t get enough Grayson! Except that everything else was great! 3.5/5⭐️

pickListened on audio - I‘ll be honest I zoned out and wasn‘t paying super close attention to the mystery aspect. I thought the main character was kind of annoying but I am interested in continuing the series since it ended with a decent twist. I rated it 3.75 stars at the time, so must have enjoyed it more than I can remember at this point. This was borrowed from Libby, and I would def recommend to #borrownotbuy.
pickThis is my second time reading this book. The entire story seemed brand new and exciting. I love the writing that this book has and the story grabs your attention even in round two.

pickWhat a fun YA mystery! It's gotten a lot of hype, and my daughter has been pushing me to read the trilogy. I can definitely see why! On moving straight on to book 2!
pickSuch a fun read! Sort of a combination between Knives Out, Alice in Wonderland, and one of those stories where you find out you‘re really a princess or a king lost relative leaves you their fortune. Super enjoyable, can‘t wait for my hold on book 2 to come in from the library.
Great series to kick-start the year with, and get in the mood for some serious reading(eventually). All three parts have some brain-wracking puzzles and mind-games. Although the plot remains more or less the same, the thrill remains. 5/5.
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes seems somewhat similar to the movie Knives Out. The book begins with the main character, Avery Grambs, inheriting billions of dollars from someone whom she doesn't even know. The only catch is that she has to remain at the Hawthorne estate for one year with all four of the Hawthorne heirs. Each of the heirs have different opinions of Avery and are suspicious of her but some view her as a puzzle.
I am SOOOO excited that this was chosen as the #DoubleSpin pick this month…I have been on hold at the library for 2 months for this one and it just came in yesterday!!! My #BookSpin is The Match by Harlan Coben which has been in my TBR for far too long. Excited for this month!!! @TheAromaofBooks
Omg this book. I‘m a little over half way through and I‘m loving it. Already ordered the next one.
so-soAvery is a normal 16-year old until she finds out that she is the mystery inheritor of 47 billion dollars. The catch? She doesn't know the man that has given her the money and there is a stipulation that she must live in his sprawling, maze of a house for a year or forfeit the money. If you like books with mind puzzles, you will like this book. A theme in the novel is the power of family, and this can be seen in the multiple family dynamics.
pick4 ⭐This was a fun, mysterious semi-crazy read. It is very reminiscent of the Westing Game but adapted for a more mature audience. We have a girl, Avery who lives with her sister, and they are barely scraping by. My completed 2022 Reading Bracket. Not only did I enjoy the winning book, but my daughter and I had a blast reading as a buddy read. Those moments will always elevate a good book even higher.
Calling all #nancydrew and #thriller fans - I started a book club on Fable. My goal is to read mystery/thriller type books that give Nancy Drew vibes - intrepid girl detective etc. I have seen a lot of books that I feel could fall into this category- possibly even some that cross over into fantasy as well. Plug for my favorite series of all time, with favorite author, of course, Jennifer Lynn Barnes! These books have really been a blast to read.

Hawthorne House. So many secrets, surprises, riddles and treasures. So much to explore. So many libraries 🤓 Plus the bowling alley and movie theater are nice bonuses.
pickThis YA mystery is every bit as exciting as a story about a young woman who learns a billionaire she‘s never met has left her all his money essentially disinheriting his four grandsons (the entire family really) sounds like it should be. Best of all? They all have to live together in the family mansion for a year otherwise the money goes to charity. And then there‘s a puzzle to solve, danger, family drama, paparazzi, & more. Very entertaining.
Yay for book mail…and just in time for a cold, wintery start to Thanksgiving break too! 🍁🦃❄️
