An English June in the Roman Wall countryside; the ruin of a beautiful old house standing cheek-by-jowl with the solid, sunlit prosperity of the manor farm - a lovely place, and a rich inheritance for one of the two remaining Winslow heirs. There had been a third, but Annabel Winslow had died four years ago - so when a young woman calling herself Annabel Winslow comes 'home' to Whitescar, Con Winslow and his half-sister Lisa must find out whether she really is who she says she is.

I hate this font (and the bright white pages it‘s printed upon) so intensely that I‘m honestly not sure I can read this book.

ChaoticMissAdventures Fonts and the quality of the pages really are a deterrent for some books! Who decides this? And is it a cost issue? Either way I totally understand what you mean. 3w

JuniperWilde I‘m all about fonts and paper, too 3w
JuniperWilde I wouldn‘t read a book if the form got in the way unless I had to (grad school) or really loved the story. 3w

A case of mistaken identity by Hadrian's Wall has a young woman pretending to be Annabel Winslow at the behest of Annabel's gorgeous but menacing cousin Con who is seeking to secure his own inheritance of the farm. There are three potential heirs (including Annabel), old love affairs to negotiate and several attempted murders. Twisty and Gothic and clever with surreptitious sandwiches being sneaked to the cat hiding under the armchair.

The book opens along Hadrian's Wall looking down at a majestic sycamore. I could picture exactly where our heroine was which was lovely, but it made me sad for that gorgeous tree, too.

Super jazzed about this #AuldLangSpine list from @IndoorDame 🙌
I‘ve been meaning to read 19 and 11 for years and will definitely get to them now! 8, 15, and 13 are new to me and look v interesting. I‘m planning to start with possibly 3, 5, and 12, if I can get my hands/ears on them. Off to check Libby/hoopla/and physical copies from my library 📚
#auldlangspine2024 #ALSpine

IndoorDame 2&3 are actually a duology of novellas, so I‘d start with 2. They were on my AuldLangSpine list last year from @SueK But I was impatient and had to read them almost back to back. (edited) 3mo
IndoorDame 15 & 8 were #sundaybuddyread books this year so I have @TheBookHippie to thank for them 3mo
IndoorDame 5 was stacked from a review by @Cinfhen last January and was my first 5 star read of the year 3mo

Chelsea.Poole @IndoorDame I‘ve read 2 and just never did get around to 3 when it was published. It even appeared on my list last year from @TheKidUpstairs so the universe (or @monalyisha at least 😂) really wants me to read second book! 3mo
IndoorDame @Chelsea.Poole 🤣🤣🤣the universe and @monalyisha are wise! 3mo
TheKidUpstairs Oooh, what a great list! I can see why you guys were matched 😊 Of course I love the Becky Chambers, and Fingersmith is such a great read as well! 3mo

This one started out very slow for me but really picked up at the end. Can definitely see how Simone St James‘ writing was influenced by this. The plot was interesting enough to keep me engaged but I‘m still in a slump so it took a bit for me to get through. Sad I missed out on the #sundaybuddyread discussion but I just couldn‘t keep up.

A little late for #SundayBuddyRead

I‘ve not read Stewart before, but her way of introducing twists is astounding! I was suspicious of a few elements introduced early on, and while my suspicions were later proven correct, the whole journey to the revelations - and more! - was very riveting. Stewart‘s writing also has this slow, mysterious vibe, setting up for something dark and sinister. Great read! #192025 #1961

Read during #Scarathlon for #SundayBuddyRead

This is my first Mary Stewart but I am sure it won‘t be my last. An inspiration to authors like Simone St. James, I very much enjoyed her ability to create a strong lead character & a gothic setting that drew me in immediately. There were several twits to the story that kept me guessing too. Quietly beautiful writing & overall delightful, it will make my favorites list this year.

Honestly I loved this so much it was just the right read for me this month I hope you enjoyed it as well. It definitely gave me Simone vibes.

Thanks so much for Sundays!!!!

Next up ANNA 👀 speaking of pretending to be someone we aren‘t ….

IndoorDame One of my favorite books that I‘ve read in ages! And such perfect October vibes. Thanks for choosing this one 🖤 5mo
AmyG When I was marking out the sections, I thought UGH, the last part was so long and I have such a busy month. But I flew through the section. I couldn‘t read fast enough. Wonderful book and great choice. Definitely a favorite of this year‘s books. (edited) 5mo
Karisa I loved it! It‘s wonderful when books age well. Anyone read anything else by her that they‘d recommend? It‘s fun that next month‘s book shares a theme despite the different decade and genre. I have a feeling that Anna is no Annabel. 😅 5mo

Adam Forrest
So
A letter went missing and what a mess it caused ..
I still don‘t what to think
Definitely Jane Eyre vibe

The Ivy Tree
Split down the middle
Here‘s the letter.

IndoorDame I love the incredible cinematic drama of this setup. It really is like Jane Eyre. 5mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I thought that about chapter two and it is very much Bronte feel to it, someone else said it too maybe @vonnie862 🖤 5mo
AmyG Yes! I thought Jane Eyre, too. I loved the ending and how the tree revealed it all. 5mo
See All 11 Comments
Karisa Yep, we had our letter! I love how it made Annabel a bit more flawed/tragic, but also it was the best that letter never got to Adam. She took that not being responded to as a chance to move on. Definitely gothic elements. 5mo
willaful My great-uncle used to sing that to me...

I dunno, I guess it fits with the times that it's a good thing, but I feel bad for the time they lost and the suffering. But then Annabel obviously would never have been happy if they had run off.
5mo
Deblovestoread Definitely the same atmospheric feel as Jane Eyre, which I love. The letter was best lost to have a better future. 5mo
DebinHawaii For sure some Jane Eyre vibes & loved the atmospheric gothic feel. The letter was a bit sad but as others have said, it probably was best for their long term future. 5mo
mcctrish #meddlingkids 🤣🤣 5mo

Donald
Poor thing!

I did love both their parts ♥️

IndoorDame Poor Donald is right! I‘m hoping he runs straight back to London and takes Julie with him. 5mo
Karisa That whole sequence with the thunderstorm as backdrop was brilliant. Grandfather‘s death was a bit overshadowed. He would have hated that. 😅 5mo

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Well, that was frightening

Also I‘ve always loved horses…🐴
What did you think of all that!?!

Lisa
I still don‘t like her, you?

IndoorDame Usually bringing the truth into focus makes things less sinister, but if anything Con freaks me out more at the end… 5mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I agree!!!!!! 5mo
Karisa Con‘s changeability was so scary. That final scene with him had me on edge. Was it weird that I was also worried for the kittens maybe even more so than for Annabel (she seemed like a person who could take care of herself)? 5mo
See All 13 Comments
Karisa I loved the scenes with Rowan when Annabel finally showed her talent. Rowan 😍 5mo
AmyG Animals know….they don‘t lie. I never trusted Con. I didn‘t think his story about her being pregnant with his child was always bullshit. As for Lisa? I think she was in love with Con. 5mo
Deblovestoread Love horses! And Rowan knew her and protected her. I agree with @Amy about Lisa and loving Con. 5mo
DebinHawaii Animals know for sure. @Karisa I agree! I was more concerned about the kittens too. I was a little surprised that Lisa was such a non-entity to the story. I expected her to pop up at the end to try to help con or hurt Annabel. I guess she was the red herring. 5mo
Karisa @DebinHawaii Oh yeah! Lisa kind of disappeared. There could be a sequel in which she‘s lurking and looking to avenge Con‘s death. She would‘ve been devastated by that… 5mo
mcctrish @IndoorDame Con was even worse than I first thought 5mo
vonnie862 Well, Con got what he deserved. And ditto about the animals. 5mo
vlwelser Con got what he deserved. And I loved this horse even before he defended Annabel. 5mo

willaful It's the kind of book that you don't realize is really clever until you've finished it... I went searching for the first mentions of Adam on my kindle and there it is, so cunningly hidden in plain sight in the first paragraphs... an Eve dreaming of Adam.... 5mo
Deblovestoread Loved Annabel. Loved the way Stewart played out the is she, isn‘t she storyline. 5mo
DebinHawaii It was very well done! I really liked Annabel but I did want her to be more concerned about Con given his past & present behavior! Yikes! 😱 5mo

Karisa @TheBookHippie @vlwelser @IndoorDame I‘m loving the eeriness too. The whole moonlight scenes and then everything changes in the daylight and little snippets of traditional ballads… 5mo

IndoorDame Julie and Con hadn‘t occurred to me either. And I don‘t get that vibe from either of them. But I could see a young girl getting a crush on someone who worked around the farm before she left, so maybe it‘s not a totally paranoid theory… 5mo
vonnie862 @IndoorDame I agree. However, I was not expecting it. 5mo

Karisa @AmyG That fits those two perfectly! I don‘t think the siblings even knew that Annabel and Donald were seeing each other. I think Julie kept that a secret. 5mo

Adam and Mary/Annabel
What the what ?!?!
Is she or isn‘t she 😵‍💫

vlwelser He thinks not. 5mo
IndoorDame So far he‘s the only one who thinks not. Are we supposed to attribute that to some special insight of an ex lover, or is he just a cynic? 5mo
vonnie862 I don't like him. He obviously has a close connection with Annabel but he still sounds like a terrible person. If Mary is not Annabel, she's then a really good actress and very dedicated. 5mo
See All 11 Comments
Karisa Hmm, I like him. 🤷🏻‍♀️ He seems to accept Mary as she is and be her one person she can be honest with (nothing to gain from her). 5mo
Deblovestoread I‘m on the fence about Adam. 5mo
DebinHawaii He is making me nervous as is all the digging. Does he know she isn‘t Annabelle because he killed Annabelle & buried her somewhere at his house/property? 😱 5mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I KNOW!!!!😬 5mo
Larkken @DebinHawaii eep! I kinda like him so I think I hope not lol 5mo
mcctrish @DebinHawaii exactly or just because she didn‘t throw herself at him it can‘t be her ?! It‘s been 8 years. Annabelle wasn‘t getting anything from the affair so she left and he‘s pissed off she won‘t jump right back in? 5mo
AmyG @DebinHawaii I am also on the fence about Adam. I thought for a momentdo fake Annabel and Adam come together…does Mary fall in love with him? 5mo

Well well well I guess it‘s really Annabel?? Or IS IT?!

IndoorDame I don‘t know. Maybe she‘s both. I‘m starting to think she legally became Mary for some reason when she went to Canada. 5mo

TheBookHippie @vlwelser Me either and I just love it! 5mo
vonnie862 I keep going back and forth if she's Annabel. I mean, people really think it's her, which is weird. 5mo
Karisa It is keeping you guessing! The only character that seemed to see her differently is Forrest. He seems to be the strongest proof she isn‘t Annabel. However, part of me really wants her to be the real Annabel. I was hoping for an old letter left in the tree 😅 5mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa SAME!!! I want a letter!! 5mo
Deblovestoread I wanted a letter, too. And if she is Annabel what game is she playing? I swear I go back and forth every other page. 5mo
DebinHawaii Yep, I just can‘t make up my mind! Like @Deblovestoread I wonder about her long game if she is Annabelle.🤔 5mo

I thank you 💚🌳💚 I love our Sundays!

AmyG This book is so good. A slow slow burn. I trust no one!!! 6mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG I see Simone‘s earlier books -which I prefer - so much in this! It‘s very very good! 6mo
Karisa That song is eerie! Perfect for this book and the Halloween season. Loving it so far! (Now I‘m off to go see the Yayoi Kusama exhibit in San Francisco 🪩💗) 6mo

TheBookHippie @Karisa OH ENJOY!!!! 6mo
vonnie862 I'm listening to the audio and it's a bit of a drag. I had to speed up the speed so I wouldn't fall asleep. Maybe reading it physically would have been better. However, I am intrigued to find out what's really going on. 6mo
mollyrotondo I am loving this book! I definitely am trying to figure it out because I can‘t help myself 😂 but love the writing and the story! 6mo
mcctrish My chapters are not lining up with this schedule 🤷🏻‍♀️ @vonnie862 I‘m on my kindle and school is sucking up so much bandwidth in my brain I‘m hating I don‘t have a print book in my hands 6mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish @vonnie862 I have the old 1962 book from library and a new book but both were printed in US AND are the same. I have it on kindle but haven‘t looked at it as it isn‘t migraine friendly 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😵‍💫 UGHHHH I do know someone warne earlier that US & UK we‘re different I wonder if kindle is too!!!!! Ack 6mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie kindle says I‘m only at 36% so that was another red flag 6mo
mcctrish @Karisa that‘s awesome, enjoy 6mo
vonnie862 @TheBookHippie The narrator from the audio reads super slow. At 1.5 speed, it sounds like she's reading at a normal pace. 6mo
DebinHawaii @mcctrish When I line it up the Kindle with the print copy from the library yesterday & checked today, we should be 2 chapters ahead to catch up—so through chapter 9 on Kindle & about 48%. 6mo
mcctrish @DebinHawaii so for next week I read 10-13 or 14? 6mo
DebinHawaii @mcctrish Read 10-13 and stop at 14. 6mo
Larkken @AmyG @TheBookHippie I just finished The Broken Girls and it feels similar to The Ivy Tree to me, too. 6mo

Seems bright ….

AmyG It does! I am enjoying this. 6mo
Karisa Ooh, maybe I didn‘t read far enough. I didn‘t Julie yet. Better check my chapters. I like her already if she has a cat 😂 6mo
vonnie862 Maybe Julie will reveal some truths? 6mo
See All 8 Comments
mollyrotondo I loved this chapter! It was so funny! The cat eating all the sandwiches from Donald‘s hand under the chair. Uhh how cute! I like Donald. And he‘s an excavator? Archeologist? Either way he digs up land for artifacts and I think this is another clue that something will be dug up and that something is going to be Annabel‘s body. She never left. She‘s been there this whole time buried in the garden 😱 that‘s my prediction lol 6mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo omg 😱😱😱😱 6mo
DebinHawaii @mollyrotondo I am vibing with your theory! And you gotta love a man who will feed a cat! 🐈 ❤️ 6mo
mollyrotondo @DebinHawaii 😆 I just feel like this digging up land storyline that was just introduced must lead to them finding a body on the property. But we will see! 6mo

Still going with creepy 😵‍💫👀
Thoughts?! Yikes!!

AmyG I want to really know what happened with him and Annabel to make her suddenly leave. Not sure I believe their story. (edited) 6mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG There‘s something evil lurking!!! 6mo
Karisa @AmyG @TheBookHippie I keep coming back to he killed her or forced her over the cliff. 👀 He is a bit evil. Does the grandfather and the Bates see it though? Eight years of living there and they seem sharp… 6mo
See All 11 Comments
TheBookHippie @Karisa 🤷🏻‍♀️👀 something evil happened or attempted to happen is my guess! 6mo
Deblovestoread I don‘t believe their story either part of why I believe Mary could be Annabel back from the dead…queue scary music… 6mo
vonnie862 Hmmm...Con is not trustworthy, but I'm not sure what to think. I almost feel like it's too obvious for him to be the bad guy. 🤷‍♀️ 6mo
mollyrotondo @vonnie862 me too. He‘s too obvious. I think he‘s terrible person especially when it comes to women but I don‘t think he actually killed Annabel. I think his sister did that. But I can‘t stand Con either way because he‘s so angry and violent. 6mo
vlwelser So creepy. And why should any of these people inherit the house. They all seem ungrateful. 6mo
mcctrish Lisa seems so odd and Con seems psychopathic with moods crossing his face, Mary/Annabel is a grifter - poor Julie 6mo
DebinHawaii He‘s definitely a creep & a bully but I do agree that Lisa seems the most suspect. 🤔 6mo
willaful @mctrish I don't think Mary is a grifter, but of course that begs the question, why did she agree to do this? 6mo

Mary/Annabel
Someone went through her purse..
Fear of horses ???
Fear in general ..
Tried to get out of the deal
What‘s she up to?????

AmyG I can‘t figure this one out. Sometimes I wonder if she actually IS Annabel-but with a bit of amnesia. 😳 6mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG oh that‘s a thought!!! 6mo
Karisa @AmyG Oooh, I like that idea. She does seem too comfortable at times, but then things like the horses happen at seem off. It feels like for that to work something would have had to have happened to her on that final night and a horse would have been involved… Yeah, this book keeps one guessing! 😂 6mo
See All 10 Comments
Deblovestoread I keep thinking she really is Annabel and then something like the fear of horses happens and I‘m back to clueless 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6mo
vonnie862 @Deblovestoread I was thinking of that too. For Mary to look so much like Annabel that people really think is her has me scratching my head. 6mo
mollyrotondo She did have Mary documents in her purse which makes me think she really is Mary. I think Mary is starting to grow suspicious about things but not enough to explore yet. She wondered why Annabel‘s garden looked the way did and I think that‘s going to come back. I believe the real Annabel is buried in her old garden. 6mo
vlwelser Not sure what is going on with this nonsense. 6mo
mcctrish @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣 buried in her own garden @mollyrotondo that‘s pure Gothic vibes right there and @AmyG I go back and forth on the is she or isn‘t she 6mo
DebinHawaii Still too soon to tell for me. I can go either way in whether she is or isn‘t Annabelle right now. I wonder which person went through her things & why they didn‘t take the papers (if they were Lisa or Con) or say something if it was the housekeeper? Or grandfather if he‘s playing a long game & wants to see what she‘s going to do next. 6mo

AmyG I am still in the not too sure about everyone phase. A good sign for me as it makes me want to just read and find out. 6mo
Karisa He‘s so gruff but clearly loves Annabel. He would make my head hurt talking to him in her situation. She seems to get him though🤷🏻‍♀️ The horses interaction may have him start questioning her more. 6mo
Deblovestoread They seem to be treating him as a dottering old man but I think he is sharper than he looks. And while Mary is not a horsewoman I wasn‘t expecting a fear of horses….is it just an act? (edited) 6mo
See All 10 Comments
vonnie862 The grandfather is someone who really likes to get his way, thus he butted heads with Annabel. It's weird but I think I trust him the most so far from all of the characters. 6mo
mollyrotondo He loves to play games. And he never reveals his hand. I definitely think he‘s the most real in the family. He isn‘t hiding who he is as a person. But I also wonder if he‘s going to quickly catch on that that‘s not Annabel. 6mo
vlwelser I think he's also up to something. We shall see. 6mo
mcctrish @Karisa that sent some red flags up for sure and @Deblovestoread horses are HUGE imo so if one was that close and breathing down her shirt I think she‘d be freaked out 6mo
DebinHawaii He‘s seems quite crafty but I agree with everyone that he seems the most real. 6mo

Deblovestoread Definitely smitten and weird….I think she is the one to watch out for. 6mo
AnnR I wonder who is manipulating who? 6mo
vonnie862 She seems to really like to be in control. I'm not sure if she's being a very protective sister or if there's something more... 6mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 this is my exact thought!! 6mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread I think maybe so. 6mo
TheBookHippie @AnnR That is the question!! 6mo
mollyrotondo @AmyG yes! I definitely think he‘s eerily in love with Con. I also think she killed the real Annabel and Annabel never really left the property. 6mo
vlwelser So odd. Like why is she even there? 6mo
mcctrish @mollyrotondo if that isn‘t the story I‘m going to be disappointed 6mo
DebinHawaii @mollyrotondo Ooh… that‘s good! There‘s definitely something off there! 🫣 6mo
willaful I'm wondering who the love interest is supposed to be. I don't trust Con, but no one else has showed up. I've actually read the book before but I don't remember a thing. 😁 6mo

AmyG Seems like she really cared for Annabel and was mad she left but-seems to be warming up to her. 6mo
Karisa She reminded me of the cook on Downton Abbey or the head nurse/matron in Silence for the Dead. Caring but also tough. I trust the Bates more than Lisa and Con. At least Lisa/Con have taken good care of Whitescar though. 6mo
Karisa (That photo is gorgeous! 😍) 6mo
See All 22 Comments
TheBookHippie @Karisa That is a good comparison ! 6mo
Deblovestoread She seemed genuinely hurt that Annabel left the way she did. 6mo
vonnie862 @Karisa I was thinking of Downtown Abbey too! 6mo
vonnie862 Mrs. Bates was hurt and may have shield in front of her now that "Annabel" is back. 6mo
mollyrotondo I can‘t stand Mrs Bates. Just going on and on talking and making Julie uncomfortable in front of her new beau when that other guy called on the telephone. Yeah she‘s a bit much 🙄 6mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I do not like her! 6mo
vlwelser Do I have the wrong schedule? Julie didn't turn up yet for me. 6mo
mcctrish @vlwelser I am thinking the same thing. There was a part last week too that had me thinking I hadn‘t read far enough and I have checked and double checked #amilosingmymind? (edited) 6mo
vlwelser @mcctrish do you also have the giant one with Moonspinners in it? I think the editions might be different somehow. 6mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish @vlwelser I‘m thinking with all the editions and UK and US - we may be off 😵‍💫 4-7 this past week this coming week 8- 11 … I even have two versions here both the same 🤦🏻‍♀️ it‘ll be a wild ride 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 6mo
mcctrish @vlwelser I‘m reading on my kindle but how do they set the book differently? That‘s dumb but I‘ve got Julie arriving tomorrow so it‘s happening regardless 6mo
DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie @mcctrish @vlwelser My Kindle version is so off! My hold print did come in & I picked it up at the library but it‘s one of those really old oddly stained books that makes me a bit nervous to read. I‘m going to stop & catch up before I answer more questions. (According to it my Kindle is two chapters behind. )😬 But back to the subject, I am ok with Mrs. Bates—she seems caring. As @Karisa said I trust her more than Lisa & Con. 6mo
Karisa @DebinHawaii @mcctrish @vlwelser @TheBookHippie Oh! I thought it was just me with the haven‘t seen Julie yet. I‘m reading on a Kindle too and chapter 7 ends at just 36% of the way into the book. 😜 6mo
DebinHawaii @Karisa Yeah, if you read through Chapter 9 on Kindle, then that is the end of Chapter 7 in the book. Mine at least is 2 off. It‘s at 47% with the 2 additional chapters. 6mo
Karisa @DebinHawaii Wowza! That‘s a big difference. I‘ll go by the percentage next week. Thank you! 6mo
vlwelser Does this mean @TheBookHippie has an edited version? I can't even tell what we got that was extra. 6mo

vlwelser Those cakes look delicious. 6mo
vlwelser 😂 the plot. Anyway.... I think the plot poking holes in itself is clever. I think this works better in the time period than it would today. Science and social media have definitely ruined a good mistaken identity plot theme. 6mo

Karisa @TheBookHippie @vonnie862 Agreed! Either way, I can‘t wait to read what happens next! I‘m predicting that grandfather is going to be happy and Julie suspicious of Mary. Fun set up! 6mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa absolutely loving the read! 6mo
DebinHawaii It‘s perfect pick for this month! Can‘t wait to read more! 🤗 And yum to the cakes with a spot of tea! (edited) 6mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii it does go so well with October! 6mo
mollyrotondo So hungry from those griddle cakes 😂 I love a good mistaken identity story. It provides so much suspense because you don‘t know if she‘s going to trip up and if that person would notice. I also love a family drama plot mixed in lol really like this so far. 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The plot seems absurd, so of course I'm in for the shit show about to ensue. Does grandpa really have one foot in the grave like Lisa indicated? Is Julie as clueless as they are counting on? Oh boy, this is going to be fun. 6mo

Lisa Dermott
Trust her or no?
What‘s in it for her?

vlwelser I don't trust her or the brother. But the narrator is also suspect imo. 6mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser Me- They're all guilty!! HAHAHAHA. 6mo
AmyG Ha, right? @vlwelser That‘s what makes this so good already. Trust no one. 6mo

IndoorDame I agree. Everyone seems guilty so far! 😂 It‘s awesome! 6mo
vonnie862 Oh man...I'm going to be going back and forth trying to figure out who is the bad person. Maybe it's like the Oriental Express where everyone is guilty? Who knows? 6mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I agree!!! No one is to be believed at this point! 6mo
Karisa @vonnie862 Yes! All three seem so suspicious, but of the 3, I only like Mary. Still don‘t completely trust her though 😜 6mo
Karisa (And these images you found, @thebookhippie 💗😍!) 6mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa I so want to travel there now!!! 6mo
DebinHawaii Yep—trust NO ONE yet but definitely not Lisa! 😉😆 6mo
mollyrotondo I don‘t understand what Lisa would get out of it. Unless she plans on killing her brother after he inherits the money. I really don‘t like Lisa and Con and there story doesn‘t seem to make a lot of sense for hatching this plan. But Mary could have something up her sleeve. 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't trust any of these three as far as I can throw them, and since I'm not working out lately, that isn't very much at all. 🤣 They're all suspect, but Lisa was just scoping out the cafe like everyone else was blind and wouldn't see her. She might be the most psycho of them all. Con at least had the decency to make his creepiness known from the start. 6mo

Northcumberland in the news- did you see this about the tree?!?!
Makes me so angry and sick…

https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/heritage-and-retro/heritage/sycamore-gap-history...

vlwelser The poor tree. 6mo
AmyG I did see this. WTF is wrong with people? 😢 (edited) 6mo
IndoorDame I didn‘t see this! People are SO awful! 😢😢 6mo

vonnie862 I saw this too so it was on my mind when reading the first three chapters. It's so sad how people can be so destructive. 6mo
mcctrish That is bloody brutal 6mo
Karisa I heard that about the tree near Hadrian‘s Wall on NPR. What makes a teenager do that? So sad. 6mo
DebinHawaii I read that yesterday too. So sad & it makes me so angry! 🤬 6mo
mollyrotondo Wow 😔 was the person caught? 6mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo couple people out on bail - no real story on who yet.. 6mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie oh wow. Terrible terrible thing. 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Who thinks it's a good idea to just go onto public land and chop down a famous tree?! People just don't use their freaking heads. How sad that folks out there think they're entitled to deface things generations old. 6mo

Con Winslow
Yikes
So what really happened with Annabel?
And what‘s he really doing ?!?!

vlwelser He's so creepy right from the start. Maybe that's a red herring. 6mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I wonder... 6mo
AmyG He is VERY creepy. Kind of stalkerish. 6mo
See All 12 Comments
IndoorDame He totally comes off like a stalker. But I was also completely convinced she was running a con when I first met her, so…🤷🏻‍♀️ 6mo
vonnie862 Oh man. He gave me the creeps right away. 6mo
TheBookHippie @vonnie862 ME too!!! Yikes... 6mo
mcctrish The way his facial expressions are described has me thinking serial killer 🤣😳 6mo
Karisa @mcctrish Yeah, something about how he turns on and off the charm so quickly. At first I thought he‘s the love interest. Then I thought, run away, Mary! What really happened to Annabel?! 😂 6mo
mcctrish @karisa psychopath vibes imo 😆 6mo
DebinHawaii He definitely has an air of menace about him. 😱 It will be interesting to see how he turns out with more exposure to the character than the glimpse we have had so far. 6mo
mollyrotondo Uhh Con is awful! He was threatening to kill her right then and there that‘s how angry he is at Annabel. He is dangerous to me. I hate him. But I do wonder what could have happened. I don‘t trust Con and Lisa at all. I thought this opening scene with Con was so well done. And started the story right off the bat. No delay. 6mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Stranger Danger! STRANGER DANGER! He gives off nothing but creepy vibes, but also, so desperate for them to be related. Why does/would any man really think the way to endear himself to a woman is to threaten her and ask personal uncomfortable questions, while making her feel like she can't just walk away? I really thought perhaps one of them was going over the cliff, and we'd have our first dead body in before chapter 3. 6mo
