My reading view, my reading companion, and my reading material (which is a fast paced, entertaining crime read). Welcome to December 1st in the Southern US. Christmas decorations are up yet all the windows are open for breezy sunshine. What is your reading weather like today? (Don‘t get jealous...it‘ll be 25 degrees colder tomorrow. Because...the South 🙄)

suzie.reads It hasn't got much above freezing in England ❄❄❄ 5d
BarbaraBB Oh wow I envy you for open windows and sunshine! 5d
cathysaid @suzie.reads 🥶 5d
cathysaid @BarbaraBB It is nice...but seems a bit odd. 5d
BarbaraBB Oops, I thought it was normal for you at this time of year but if it‘s odd and you are referring to climate change then it‘s hard to enjoy probably 5d

3.5 ⭐️- This book will make ‘leg day‘ at the gym obsolete. This is an entertaining read that feeds on a popular fear & will make many readers opt to take the stairs for the foreseeable future.

It started off strong but wavered for me in the middle but finished with a tense ending.

This was my first read from Linwood Barclay and I must admit I now want to read all of his other novels! This book had me so engrossed! I never saw the end coming! I also never want to ride in an elevator again!

Finished this last night. I always enjoy Linwood Barclay‘s books. They‘re a gripping, fast read. This one was no exception. I read the whole thing, even though it was over 500 pages, in two days. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Someone is sabotaging NYC elevators, causing death and fear across the city. This is an awesome thriller that doesn‘t shy away from some humor as well (a mayor named Richard Headley). I tore right through this one. This is my third or fourth by Barclay and I‘ve enjoyed them all.

cathysaid Ooooh goody. I'm a sucker for a good crime/mystery/thriller series. 1mo
Hooked_on_books @cathysaid I actually just discovered I have an ARC of this book I forgot I have. 🙄 I‘d be happy to send it along to you. We were in the same LMPBC group a while back and I still have the email with addresses. Has your address changed since 2/2018? 1mo

The first chapter was interesting but then the book got slow and boring. Made it 61 pages in before bailing. Just not for me.

This book was brilliant! It‘s the 1st Barclay I‘ve read but you can bet I‘ll be tracking down more. This is one of those rare books that kept me from guessing the right culprit till the last few chapters, something that doesn‘t happen very often. And I‘ll be thinking twice about getting on the next elevator. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter It‘s Friday here so 10points for the book & 1point for the post #PointsTotal-702

Next up in my #Scareathlon playlist is Linwood Barclays latest novel. Once I saw it was blurbed by Stephen King & Michael Robotham, how could I refuse?🤷🏻‍♀️When 4 people are killed in an out of control high rise elevator, everyone assumes it‘s bad maintenance, until it happens again. And again. Soon Manhattan has descended into chaos with even 911 calls left unanswered in the city‘s tall buildings. #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-687

2nd last in my #libraryhaul is the new thriller. Four people are on an elevator where ignoring the buttons they push, it goes to the top floor then plummets out of control, killing them. It appears to a random tragedy, until it happens again. And again. It brings Manhattan to its knees, people are terrorized, too scared to work or even live, even 911 calls go unanswered. It sounds terrifying! #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-416

Despite the past two weeks of mostly non-reading, my overall stats aren‘t too bad for September, thanks in large part to listening to audiobooks at work. I had five books I really wanted to read this month, but I didn‘t even get two of them started, so I‘m pretty bummed about that. I changed my work schedule to avoid traffic, but I lost at least 30 minutes of daily reading time. I‘m thinking of changing back as I‘m too tired at night to read. 😭

I‘m afraid I have to disagree with Mr. King‘s assessment that this book is “one hell of a suspense novel.” The book is definitely entertaining, and I enjoyed reading it, but it was too predictable to be suspenseful. That said, I liked the characters and the interconnecting storylines. For these reasons it‘s a pick ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Not my favourite Barclay book but it was a decent read. Was convinced the culprit was someone else until near the end but it wasn't a massive shock. Was probably expecting too much after such a long wait for this.
Love his style of writing though so still a pick 🙂

I can‘t really say much yet, since I have only read a little bit of it so far, but I love Barclay‘s work and this looks like a particularly good one. More later....,........finished reading the book. I liked it, as I do all of Barclays books. Liked the feeling for life in New York and the characters. Captured my feelings about skyscrapers, and about heights in general. I have visited most of the skyscrapers during my 18 years of living in New York

HAPPY PUB DAY!!!!

Malfunctioning, crashing-to-the-ground elevators.

And...just when you thought it was all over, it wasn't. The ending is edge-of-your-seat.

Compulsively readable, unputdownable, edge-of-your-seat thriller. One elevator accident is a tragedy. Two may be coincidence, but three is definitely something much more sinister. A twisty thrill ride through NYC politics and elevators, you‘ll think twice before using another elevator. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. Release date is next Tuesday - do yourself a favor a grab a copy. My first, but will not be my last Barclay!

I‘m 1/3 of the way through this book and I had to get on an elevator when I left work today. My first thought was “it only goes up 5 floors, if it plummets, is that enough to kill me or just really, really hurt?” If I wasn‘t so out of shape, I‘d never get on another elevator again (btw-this Book is really good so far).

Wow this was so good. I was gripped from start to finish. The plot was really interesting if a little graphic in places but I didn't mind that. The story jumps around a lot at the beginning so took me a little time to understand it all but what a ride once I did. The story is detailed and has many twists that took me by surprise which I love in a book. The ending was clever too. Thinking twice about using lifts again though #Netgalley
