We Met in December
We Met in December: A Novel | Rosie Curtis
Following a year in the life of a twenty-something British woman who falls hard for her London flat mate, this clever, fun, and unforgettable romantic comedy is the perfect feel-good holiday read. Two people. One house. A year that changes everything. Twenty-nine-year-old Jess is following her dream and moving to London. Its December, and shes taking a room in a crumbling, but grand, Notting Hill house-share with four virtual strangers. On her first night, Jess meets Alex, the guy sharing her floor, at a Christmas dinner hosted by her landlord. They dont kiss, but as far as Jess is concerned the connection is clear. She starts planning how they will knock down the wall between them to spend more time together. But when Jess returns from a two-week Christmas holiday, she finds Alex has started dating someone elsebeautiful Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into (hell, sharing a bathroom with) the man of her dreamsand the woman of his.

I mean, it was okay!

London can be daunting...and expensive! When Jess is offered a low-rent flatshare opportunity in the Notting Hill house her friend recently inherited, she jumps at her lucky chance and immediately falls for Alex. Alex ... is quite frankly a mess! Overhauling his life after his father‘s death, his fiancé leaves him when he quits his prestigious lawyer job to become a nurse at a non-profit. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

MellieAntoinette Obviously, he‘s off relationships for good...except for Emma...leaving Jess to settle for friends with extreme secret one-sided crushes.

This strangers to friends to fiancé rom-com will work for some, but it was relegated to the friend zone after Chloe Brown‘s brilliant Smudge the Cat stole this one‘s cheese!

Cute story that appears to be winter/holiday themed but actually spans over a year and holidays do not play a role. It‘s a story about friends that have feelings for each other but continue their regular lives in order to not disrupt the other‘s presumed life. I‘m a sucker for a happy ending! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was all audiobooks for me yesterday for day 1 of #24B4Monday! I really liked all 3 novellas in My Favorite Things, and We Met in December is a fun rom com that I'm almost done with. I don't know how much reading I'll get done today because I'm working all day at the bookstore. #WinterGames #SlayBells @Clwojick @StayCurious

I enjoyed this one, a good way to close out my holiday books. I will save a list of books i want to read next year, I really enjoy this tradition. This book started at the holiday and ended at the holiday following along with Alex and Jess chronicling the year in between. So holiday mentions but an anytime read. Sugary sweet and I enjoyed it. #wintergames #TeamNutcracker #holidayread

JenReadsAlot I'll add to my list for next year! 4w
peaknit @JenReadsAlot I got it for 1.99, I‘ll keep my eye out for a deal. Totally a sweet read anytime but qualifies for holiday trash on my book👍🏻I have this book coming to the library for vacation reading. 4w

Listening to my audiobook on my lunch break! Hoping to finish this one before the end of the year! What books are you trying to fit in before 2020?

MaGoose I'm trying to finish Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading by Maureen Corrigan and Patrimony by Jane Thynne. 🤞 3w

I enjoyed One Day in December, and The Flatshare was my favorite rom-com read of 2019 so this one seemed liked a mix of the two. It‘s okay but I just didn‘t think there was enough story there.

mdm139 Bummer. I liked those other books too and had been eyeing this one. 1mo
marleed @mdm139 It did make me think about the other two. And I like thinking about them - so there is that! (edited) 1mo
EH2018 One Day in December was better, but still a nice fluffy seasonal read 1mo

This was a sweet contemporary romance. The story is bookended by Christmas, so it was a very appropriate read for the holidays. The friendship that develops between the two MCs is really well done. The only thing that let me down was the super quick wrap up at the end. I hate when the couple FINALLY gets together after a slow burn and then the book just abruptly ends and concludes with an epilogue that skips ahead in time.

Kimberlone I would definitely recommend this to fans of The Flatshare and One Day in December 1mo

Cute, but not cute enough to make the page count worth it. This was an incredibly slow slow-burn between Alex and Jess, two housemates who hit it off when they meet then spend a year living together and not getting together due to lots of contrived reasons. It ended up feeling kind of mundane and repetitive, likely because Jess and Alex are our POVs and they‘re super similar, plus there‘s barely any tension or angst to keep things moving.

marleed I had the very same thoughts- just not enough story there. 1mo

Two twenty somethings move into a shared house in an area of London they would never be able to afford otherwise and develop a friendship on long walks through the city. Definitely a holiday read for fans of friends to lovers romance!
.
I guess this came out earlier in the fall but it seemed better for the first day of December. I had a copy from the publisher.

This one falls between a pick and a so so. Jess' annoying friend Sophie really takes away from the story. God, how I wanted to smack her one. This would have been a better book if Jess spent a little more time with Alex and less time with her friends. Besides, the dynamics between the housemates is so interesting that Jess' friends are so unnecessary. Overall, it's a nice holiday read.

#MOvember Another crazy work week so I‘m trying to catch up with prompts.

This book is a pick if you like sorta holiday (it starts & ends in December) rom-coms. Jess moves to London for her dream job, rents a room in Notting Hill & is smitten with flatmate Alex who‘s friends-with-benefits with another flatmate. The book follows the year from their POVs. What I #Crave is Nigella‘s Alcoholic Hot Chocolate with LU biscuits. recipe/review link👇🏻

Today‘s soup, vegan Creamy Cauliflower Soup with Mushroom & Hazelnut Topping from Ellie Krieger is really good—the topping with it‘s hit of sherry vinegar makes the soup. It‘s on the blog today for #SouperSundays link👇🏻Here with one of my current reads—for review later this week. I‘m only about 1/3 of the way in but it‘s cute so far.

Cute, but much longer than it needs to be. I was expecting a a much easier and faster read, not over 40 chapters. I liked the idea of varying POV, but it wasn‘t really giving me a lot of new insight.
