The Last Christmas | Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn

Pickpick

When a tragedy leaves Santa feeling like a shell of a human, it's up to the elves to make him see the light...and revenge. A violent departure from the sugary sweet romans that dominate the season, this was sad but fun.

Set over the course of a year, we follow Jess and Alex, who meet while sharing a home with 3 others. Both are at a crossroads in life and starting over. I felt that we got to know Alex and side characters more than Jess. She was a little bland. It was fairly predictable but light & cute for the time of year. A pick but I'm not shouting it from the rooftops of Notting Hill.

I read this for the December #sundaybuddyread

Finale (Caraval, #3) | Stephanie Garber
post image
Mehso-so

I'm glad to be finished with the series. This very well could be an unpopular opinion, but overall the series dragged and the descriptive language meant to evoke whimsy & wonder grated my nerves. Finale has less of the weird similes, but a few still made it in. This is another book where the Dragna sisters are in a game, or aren't they? Don't believe anything, except this one time, numerous times. It felt like there were too many characters ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick this time around, which made it lose a bit of the charm of the first book. This book had both sister's POV chapters, which definitely helped. It's not awful, but I could probably gripe a lot more than compliment. A mild spoiler below. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick How many times can these girls be that stupid and how many times can the reader expect to enjoy them getting hurt and duped?! Maybe I'm more sensitive to this being older, but it just felt like they needed legit wins, not all with the help of guys. 3y

Traci1 How terrible is it that I don't remember if I've read the first one of these? I I did, but I am not sure. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Traci1 It wasn't all that memorable. I was active with the BookCon app for a few years and many of them were huge YA fans. They raved about these and I'm totally underwhelmed by each one. (Probably why I own them all). I'm glad I found Litsy. 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! This series has been on my TBR forever but I never seem to get around to it. Maybe I never will 😂 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @TheAromaofBooks This very well could be a case of me being a grump. If you're interested, I can send them to you. 3y
TheAromaofBooks haha I never turn down books from my list, so you are welcome to send them my way - although I still don't know when I read them!! 😂 3y
TheSpineView I read the first book in the series. It was Ok but I never felt the urge to the the next one. 3y
Andrew65 Brilliant progress 👏👏👏 Shame this one wasn‘t better. 3y

A Christmas Carol | Charles Dickens

This was my first time reading this book and I really enjoyed it. The narrator was engaging and the story moved on at a good pace. As someone who watches The Muppets version annually, it was fun to know that the "...who did NOT die" line isn't a Grover exclusive.

Tea Dragon Society | Katie O'Neill

Pickpick

This was a cute book that could be shared with middle grade students and older. A young girl is introduced to the art of creating for little tea dragons. It was a choice from my TBR and I'll be reading others. The art was pretty with a bit of a hazy, dream-like feel to it.

This wasn't bad, but even at 7 hours, it felt a bit long. I don't knit. The love interests were a bit boring. The narrator felt a bit too proper. It was a Hoopla bonus for November that I snagged last minute for Winter Games. I was drawn in by the cover, if I'm honest. Cleo owns the Knitting Box. Dillon's a single dad. This could be a case of "it's not you, it's me". But yay for points!

Pickpick

Cute book, very Hallmark-sweet. Allie is about to leave her hometown of Evergreen, Vermont in the rearview mirror and meet up with her boyfriend in Washington, DC. A storm leads her to meet widower Ryan and his daughter Zoe. Zoe makes a wish on the magical snow globe in the diner. It's all holiday goodness and super sweet.

Christmas With The Marine | Candace Havens

Pickpick

Ben is a Marine out shopping for kids and seniors when he meets Ainsley who happens to be a personal shopper...how convenient! This meet cute turns into some sexy times as they contemplate if they really have time for a relationship. A quick read/ listen with some holiday spirit. The narrator was a man and all of his females sounded weird except a Brit.
