pickA gothic thriller on this hint of summer day? Yes please. I really liked the pacing of this, you keep moving quickly forward. The mystery is interesting, but I felt the characters were far away I didn't feel connected or informed about any of them. Overall it is a pick, a quick read for a classic (1910) it kept my attention but I cannot imagine ever reading it again.
The "Opera Ghost" keeps signing his letters OG which has a whole new meaning 100+ years (and American audience) on

I have no idea why but I started this book (my first time reading it) and I had a visceral memory of my mom watching this Beauty and the Beast show when I was a kid. The show ran from 1987-90 and I remember it being unhinged. Does anyone else remember this show??
The Palais Garnier, where the Phantom lives, has a deal where, on the day of the performance, only at the box office, you can get a limited-view seat for €10.
I had to lean in sometimes, but my €10 view wasn‘t all that limited. (And I took this when photos were allowed again!)
Also, I felt very much like Thara Celehar today, because I searched for graves in a cemetery the size of a small village, then went to the opera and sat in a strange box.

I love the Phantom of the Opera musical. So I was excited to try the book. It just wasn't to my taste at all. I found it hard to follow, and I was finding it such a chore to read. This novel has made me really appreciate the absolute genius of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
I appreciate it's a much loved classic, but it's just not for me, unfortunately! I may re-listen to the soundtrack, so that counts, right?! 🤣

These are the books I read for the fall quarter of #booked2023. I was disappointed with the tagged book, TBH, but I‘m glad that I read it.
pickDark, borderline gothic and passionate!
It's fast paced and fairly short, the mystery and atmosphere was so good and I loved the plot. I tabbed so many quotes, the writing was simple yet effective. It also had some good philosophical points and the ending wrapped up nicely. I'm now off to watch the adaptation of it!

pick🎧 I saw Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s The Phantom of the Opera 3X at the Civic Opera House in Chicago. All the stars!
Yesterday I listened to the book. The narrator was mediocre. No singing or music. The 4th wall is broken & the narrator speaks to us as though he‘s recalling facts. 20% in the pace picks up & suddenly the story fell into my limited knowledge base.
It was what I expected yet with more detail.
I‘m on a 3-star kick lately.

" The Phantom of the Opera " As a recommendation from my girlfriend @HellGL ,I've started to read this book (in Romanian) with pretty much enthusiasm and I finished describing it as one of the best books I've ever read. What I really, really loved was how the villain was placed in this story. It was something different for me and I can easily call it masterpiece?.
so-soFunny in parts, scientific in others and a bit confused overall, this book was a mixed bag, but in a good way. I wouldn't put it in the list of must-read classics, but it was entertaining to learn so much about the Paris Opera House. If there's one thing I do find commendable, it's Leroux's ability to set the scene. And I felt really sorry for Erik - why do classic writers always give their most inspired characters the shorter end of the stick?
I had to dnf this one for now, as the audio I have doesn't have Chapter 5-8
So disappointed, I really enjoyed it.
I love Ralph Cosham as a reader
