Bookwomble @Ruthiella It was, and given the machismo amongst Hollywood leading men in the '50s, Douglas was given a hard time by John Wayne, who couldn't understand why he'd want to play the part of a tortured artist, saying "Christ, Kirk! How can you play a part like that? There's so few of us left. We got to play strong, tough characters. Not those weak queers." ??♂️? I think Douglas's interpretation was incredible for its time. 13mo
