Right, work with me here...

I almost drew a blank. The only thing #HeyHay made me think of was the 1980s song Hey Little Girl by Icehouse, so I was trying to think of something with Little Girl in the title and ended up with Little Women.... Most convoluted response yet?

I am probably one of the only women I know who does not love this book. I thought it was a bore as a kid and my opinion has only marginally changed as an adult. It‘s an American classic about four impoverished sisters growing up during the Civil War and after. It‘s based on Alcott‘s own life, and apparently, she didn‘t much like her own story! https://cannonballread.com/2019/09/little-women-elcicco/

If you‘re going to read Little Women for the first time, you need to find an edition with a decent introduction. I know not everyone reads the introduction first, but in this case it's important. I would have been adrift without a prior understanding of Louisa May Alcott‘s background and her politics and her motivations behind writing Little Women. I read and liked this book before I was ten. Decided to reread before the new movie, since I wasn‘t sure what I remembered from the book and what was actually the Winona movie (which I love).

While I did enjoy this audio, I think maybe the book is just a bit too sugary sweet and preachy for grown-up me. I still love Jo, but was disappointed with the way her character ends up... the whole ending seems like kind of a cop out. 😬🤷🏻‍♀️

⭐️⭐️⭐️

sudi I bought this book recently because i wanted to read it before the movie too. But i haven't read this previously, this will be the first. 3mo

“She wondered what the business was that brought Mr. Bhaer to the city, and finally decided that he had been appointed to some great honor, somewhere, but had been too modest to mention the fact. If she had seen his face when, safe in his own room, he looked at the picture of a severe and rigid young lady, with a good deal of hair, who appeared to be gazing darkly into futurity, it might have thrown some light upon the subject...”

I read the last chapter of Little Women this morning which was bittersweet. This is one of my all-time favorites, and this #REread was super slow. This book had been my constant companion for over a year, a chapter here and a chapter there, and I'm going to miss it. I think I'll continue REreading my classic children's lit though. Up next: Laura Ingalls Wilder

Absolutely delightful! A certain type of innocence and purity that one no longer finds in today‘s novels. I did raise my eyebrows at some of the language but 1863 was obviously a different time. The life lessons offered by Marmee still hold true in 2019🙌🏻 looking forward to the film adaptation coming this Christmas. 👇🏼

Cinfhen Little Women is an upcoming American coming-of-age period drama. It is the eighth feature film adaptation of the 1863 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. The film stars Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern & James Norton. Release date December 25, 2019. #Booked2019 #PublicDomain #Pop19 #BookToScreen2019 5mo

A classic is always love. Makes us feel that life is simple. And also is making me think that has life become more complex now? With evolving humans and evolving environment are we loosing intimacy at various levels? Rich or poor, we will keep together and be happy in one another. Is it true even now? Well it‘s all about discovering. Wait and watc?? 🤷🏻‍♀️
