Eloisa James writes with a captivating blend of charm, style, and grace that never fails to leave the reader sighing and smiling and falling in love. New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn Romance writing does not get much better than this. People The Cinderella story moves to Regency Englandwith more than a few twists and turns along the way! With A Kiss at Midnight, the remarkable Eloisa James spins a delicious tale involving a carriage, a godmother, a pair of ratsand a beauty with no interest whatsoever in getting marriedand certainly not to a prince! Yes, there's a prince, "glass" shoes, and a godmother who has the heroine's back.

But instead of mice, there are little dogs. And Kate actually likes her stepsister.

This was a fun fairytale retelling romance ?

My book club spent way too much time discussing the wax breasts and French letters ? which is precisely why I love my romance book club ?

I had to Google what a French letter is. Do you know??

TheBookHippie Ha. Yes. 😅 1y

I loved this story. It‘s been a while since I read a romance I really enjoyed. Not bad for a library discard freebie! Now to see if I can glue the cover back on, because I‘m keeping this one to revisit. And I‘m on the lookout for more Eloisa James (my first was ok, this was great, and I have one more on my shelves).

Day 10 of @Andrew65 's #Top20series #20series20days challenge

These are retellings of fairytales set in the regency period, they can be read as stand alone although some characters do pop up in other books but not so much that you don't know what is going on.

1 =Cinderella
2 = Beauty and the Beast
3= Princess and the Pea
4=The Ugly Duckling
5=Rapunzel

Andrew65 Sound fun. 4y

This was part of #ReadwithMrBook around the year-prompt=Author in Litsy but I decided to start with book 1 of Fairy tales series than with the 2nd (showed on the list). A romantic Cinderella retelling with sexy and funny scenes. I like Kate, her godmother and Leo. There will be very, super cheesy scenes. There were parts that I couldn't stand but in general I enjoyed it. During this time of social distancing, it made me laugh. 3.4/3.5⭐️

I started this book earlier today, and stayed up way too late on daylight-savings night to finish it. @EloisaJames has never left me disappointed, and this #fairytaleretelling of Cinderella was exactly what I needed. A whole cast of fun characters, an intelligent, strong heroine, and witty, lovely writing that brings the magic and the heat. 🔥

It‘s crunch time for the winter season of #Booked2019... this was 3 of 6 for me. 😃

I really enjoyed this Cinderella retelling from my current obsession @EloisaJames . And Susan Duerden did another fantastic job with the narration, especially with the Prince‘s accent. I thought the story was sweet and funny and hot, everything I‘ve come to expect. On to the Beauty and the Beast book, which will be a reread, but is a personal favorite.

This fairytale was only okay. I appreciated the fine writing, references to literature, and the characters. There is a believable arc to the romantic tale. Unfortunately, it didn‘t finish strong, I was disinterested in the last few chapters as I waited for the predicted conclusion.

Another cute historical romance, though I much preferred the Beauty and the Beast retelling to this one of Cinderella. Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the audio. I think these novels are better read, so quick and fun it feels like a treat, while the audio just goes on...

So glad @matthieumcintosh now has another platform on which to make fun of me for reading romance novels. 😂💙

Five delightful stats ✨A funny, clever, sexy, touching take on Cinderella with plenty of Shakespeare thrown in. I loved both Kate and Gabriel. Their banter and interactions were enjoyable. They sizzled together and sparkled with humor and heartfelt emotion. The secondary characters were all memorable - Wick, Henry, Victoria, Algie, Effie, the dogs and other animals in the castle. I truly enjoyed this retelling. One of my favorites.

As always with one of Eloisa James's books, you get interesting, feisty, capable heroines and sexy heroes, with a great mix of humor. (Oh how some of the names made me snicker!) This one took me a few chapters to get into, as I didn't realize at first that it was going to be much more a Cinderella retelling than a Regency, but won me over pretty quickly. (Her other "fairy tales" seem more Regencies than retellings and I love them.) #romantsy

EloisaJames ?? I tried to write those in "fairy tale time". I.e., loosen the rules. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! 7y

If you're into reading historical romance and speaking German I highly recommend trying some books from #egmontlyx. I already read about 20 books from them and I loved nearly all of them.

As you might remember I did not love "Duchess In Love" by Eloisa James. But I definitely want to give another book of her a try and a lot of people suggested trying this book of the Fairy Tale series. So here's my next read ?.

This was a delight! It had just the right amount of emotion but was pretty low on angst (important for me right now) and all the characters made me so happy. (Except Mariana. I mean. Ugh.) I love all the female friendship in this book, which is a great subversion of most fairytales that only have room for one nice girl. A good book to finish the year with. #romantsy

This was a wonderful read. The story was well thought through, there were no moments where I thought "Uhg, so out of character!"
Speaking of character, the heroine is not flawless, has a great sense of humour and stands up for herself. Some of the minor characters are hilarious.

The end made sense, no 180° turn, all of a sudden.

I enjoyed every moment.
5/5 stars

Now, I have to wait for another of Eloisa's books to arrive.
