I'll try (nearly) everything, but my favorites are romance, ghost stories and Doctor Who novels 😀

Lisa Kleypas - Cold Hearted Rake ***

Not the best book by this author, and it took me endlessly long to get through the first 200 pages. Second half of the book was a lot better though, and I still recommend it, if only as background story for the second novel in the Ravenel-Series!

I'm reading this and thinking this author is using way too many adjectives..... do you agree or do you think it adds to the story?

#romantsy #OSRBC

JoRead It gives me a better image of the heroe. That sounds like a good read ☺ 7y
Deebee Seems fine to me! 7y
AnjaPeerdeman Seems like I'm a tad adjective-sensitive 😬 The story is interesting though, so far so good! 7y

I think this dedication is so amazing. I remember my mom giving me my first Nora Roberts novel, kindling my love for Romance ❤️

Kate Angell/Jennifer Dawson/Sharla Lovelace - The Cottage on Pumpkin and Vine ****

Don't expect this book to wreak havoc with your emotions, but If you're in the mood for some light, fluffy Halloween themed romances, it's quite nice.

Josh Malerman - Bird Box *****

Filled to the brim with the terror of Not Knowing.
I've seen a lot of reviews mentioning the unsayisfying ending, but I don't see it that way. We're not ment to know the 'ending'. We followed Malorie from the beginning of the New World to the moment she arrives at Tucker, a new chapter in her life. And that is when we leave her, and we should.

An amazing read!

Karen Marie Moning - Beyond the Highland Mist ***

I liked it better than I thought I would. But I didn't love it. It was entertaining, I give it that. I liked Adrienne and Sidheach well enough. But seriously. Their story is just textbook example of why every once in a while you should pull up a chair, pour some tea for two and have a decent, honest conversation with each other. No matter what century you're from.

jenafair that is exactly how i felt 8y
HeidiR Not her best but to give KMM credit this was her first. Her books definitely get better. 8y

My TBR pile for #allhallowsread ! Probably bit off more than I can chew, but hey, biting's appropriate for Halloween, isn't it? 🎃👻

Wendy Webb - The Tale of Halcyon Crane ****

Interesting, atmospheric ghost story. It was less creepy than expected. The main characters don't experience all that much ghost activity themselves. It's mostly through the housekeeper's storytelling we learn stuff about the ghosts.
I LOVED the Great Lakes setting. The story took place on Mackinac Island. (The author renamed the island and moved it from lake Huron to Lake Superior)

Rebecca Zanetti - Forgotten Sins *** 1/2

Definitely enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Even if the plot truly borders on insanity most of the time. The amount of times someone gets shot or kidnapped are off the charts! But I was intrigued by the story, loved the H/h and I just might read book two.

GeekyGirlBooks Yowza! That cover alone makes me want to read it! 8y
monicab50 My God!! Look at those eyes!! 💜 8y
ParagraphsandPetticoats I have only ever read her books as part of the Rising Storm series -not her own stories if that makes sense - but I enjoyed her writing style. 8y

About halfway through 'Forgotten Sins' . I'm so on the fence about it. All the romantic suspense stuff I find annoying is there, and yet I'm kinda excited to read what happens next. It's an odd sensation.

These Old Shades | Georgette Heyer

Georgette Heyer - These old Shades ****

It was the OSRBC's old school read of september. I just finished the devastatingly horrible new school read and found this book far more pleasing. It's really old school and British though, like Austen and Brönte. So there's humor, quite a few misunderstandings and they drink a lot of tea and French wine. But if you crave a sex-scene, you'll starve ?

Anyone in the OSRBC who read this September New School book and liked it? I could use some insight :)
I didn't enjoy the writing at all, found the H/h infinitely tiresome and the plot as thin as a French pancake.
I started the other New school book (Forgotten Sins) to see if it's any better. It probably is.

Julia Quinn - The Duke and I ****

Started the Bridgertons and finished the first book. It was a good read, certainly entertaining. I liked both Simon and Daphne and their story was interesting enough. But not THAT special. After so many readers telling me how great this series it, I was a tad underwhelmed. I'll continue reading, see if it picks up!

#romantsy

Adena Colin's story and Francesca's are my favorite. Totally different books. Colin's is funny and lighthearted, Francesca's is gorgeously heartbreaking. 8y
Tacabo I loved the series, but I really wanted to comment on these covers - they're beautiful! The artwork suits the books so well! 8y
AnjaPeerdeman @Tacabo I know! They're the British version. All my Julia Quinn books have covers like that. 8y

Furny I need to read this author. Can you believe I haven't yet got around to her!🙄. The covers are fab!❤️x 8y
VioletSelene @Furny I'm in the same boat. When I'm looking for something specific in a book, especially audiobooks that I can listen to at work, these always pop up on goodreads. Unfortunately, most are not on Audible. 😔 8y
