I read half of this book in less than one day, almost all in one sitting. I‘m totally in love with Victor, but also with Sidney and Mitch. The book is fast paced and easy to read and I love the mixture between magic and actual science.
P.S. I‘m not saying that I did it, but I might have added to my Amazon‘s shopping cart the Collector‘s Edition of this book…
P.P.S. Thanks to the Illuminae Files‘ naked covers for posing as Victor‘s blacked pages.
From the first few lines you realize the kind of dark and deranged story you are in store for with Vicious. Amazingly written and well structured, I was immediately thrown off the deep end. Mundane moments gave a perversive sense that something deeper was buried underneath. Ambition, power And jealousy set the stage for this tale about control, destruction and vengeance. There are no hero‘s but you will still find your self rooting for someone.
This did NOT end the way I expected it to. The only reason I didn't finish this in one sitting is only because there aren't enough hours in the day. The plot is well thought out, characters are complex, the book is cleverly written and it's definitely unpredictable. I'm so satisfied with the ending. #teamnosleep for #vicious ... AND JUST LEARNED THERE'S A #SEQUEL ... Ordering #vengeful now 😁
Date Started: Oct. 3, 2019
How did I choose this book: This book has been mentioned in many book recommendation lists, so I decided to buy it.
Summary: Victor and Eliot start out as roommates in college, but after finding out that they shared interests in certain topics, their experiments on these topics turn deadly. 10 years later, Victor is out of jail and ready to reunite with his former friend.
I loved this book... at times it put me in mind of Flatliners, other times of Heroes, but it was always fun and interesting. Solid writing, with themes of what it means to be a hero or a villain. Really loved Victor, Sydney, and Mitch... excellent character development with the multiple timelines. The first part of the book was strong, and the end a bit weaker, but I‘ve already got the next book on hold. 🙌🏻
Look at all these Halloween goodies! Oh my gosh it just kept coming! Thank you so much @Mynameisacolour I feel like you really outdid yourself! Thanks for hosting @4thhouseontheleft #screamathon #litsyswap
Not sure if you can see it, but the library copy is water damaged throughout — at least I hope it‘s just water 🤢. Library E-book hold won‘t be available for a while, but I‘ll read the sample here. I also can switch over to the other VE Schwab I borrowed. #authoramonth
"Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
For me this is between a so-so and a pick. It felt much like reading the novel version of a comic book. The powers of the characters were interesting and it was well written. If they ever get around to making the movie I would say that it would probably be better than the book. Undecided if I'll read book two.

As always, highly impressed with V.E. Schwab! I loved how she wrote the book to cover the aspects of the past and present. It added to the story and made it better then having all the details jammed in. Keeps you on the seat wanting more. I adored Mitch and Victor, and the care they had for Sydney.
" The moments that define lives aren't always obvious. They don't always scream LEDGE, and nine times out of ten there's no rope to duck under, no line to cross, no blood pact, no official letter on fancy paper."
Getting an early start on Septembers #authoramonth
#85 of my year 🥳 I have been meaning to read this for a long time now and I‘m so happy to finally be! I love her books so much. Can‘t wait for Tunnel of Bones to come out this year eeeee 🥰🥰🥰
#Goodreads reading challenge goal check...I think I should of moved my goal up a little. Things are looking good for me to hit 125 by December 31st! 😁
Vicious. Well. I liked the first 2/3 s of this book but once we got to the last 1/3... ugh. I almost DNFd this one many, many times.
I think the biggy for me was there was little life in this one. Sydney and Victors father daughter relationship is what saved it. (Mitch was cool too) But I did end up skimming the last bit. Liked the ending tho! ⭐️⭐️
THESE. BOOKS. I will never get over how much I love these books. I would gladly let Victor or Marcella kill me and Eli just needs a hug. I‘ve never read books like these before and I‘m so glad V wrote them and her publisher published them. Plus we‘re going to get a third book! Ugh I can‘t wait but V has so many projects going it‘ll probably be 4-5 years before we get it. But it‘ll be worth the wait! Seriously—go read these right now!
Vicious is the sort of fast, fun read I expect from Ms Schwab, giving super villains the back story and the spotlight they probably don‘t deserve. And they ARE villains: it‘s hard to objectively root for either (altho of course I picked a side). Entertaining enough that I‘ll read the sequel but my (not very) dark secret is that I find the supporting cast way more interesting than the protagonists. Oops.
My #BFC #audiobook companion this week was the tagged book.
It was good, not 5 stars, but solid 4 stars.
Victor and Eli, roommates at college, start researching EOs (extra-ordinary human beings). This research leads them to finding a way to create EOs, and -of course- both become human beings with superpowers.
Does their superpower make them heroes or villains? Are they using their power for good or evil?
Bit Flatliners meets Fantastic Four.👇
Gah, what a day. Had to do soooooo many things. Among them, teaching my daughter how to crochet.
Good thing, I could do some #audiocooking with the tagged book.
Not as many steps for the #BFC as I had anticipated, but I'll catch up on Monday by the latest.
#ShadowCat decided 5.30am is a good time to wake us by smashing a bottle. Chaos taken care of we all went back to bed, me on my "bed of roses" with the tagged #audiobook.
#GhostCat just sniffed at the mat and went her way.
What a #Dark #Vicious #SciFi story about two close friends who discovered the mystery about becoming an ExtraOrdinary Human with super power and in doing so, become each other's biggest enemy. Finished it during my Easter holiday & #VESchwab has definitely become one of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi authors with her unique stories & fantastic writing. Now I need something to lighten my mood
