Serafina and the Twisted Staff (Serafina Book 2)
Serafina and the Twisted Staff (Serafina Book 2) | Robert Beatty
Serafina's defeat of the Man in the Black Cloak has brought her out of the shadows and into the daylight realm of her home, Biltmore Estate. Every night she visits her mother in the forest, eager to learn the ways of the catamount. But Serafina finds herself caught between her two worlds: she's too wild for Biltmore's beautifully dressed ladies and formal customs, and too human to fully join her kin. When a mysterious series of attacks test Serafina's role as Biltmore's protector, she finds herself torn from the side of her best friend and only ally, Braeden Vanderbilt. Heartbroken, she flees.Deep in the forest, Serafina comes face-to-face with the evil infecting Biltmore-and discovers its reach is far greater than she'd ever imagined. All the humans and creatures of the Blue Ridge Mountains are in terrible danger. For Serafina to defeat this new evil before it engulfs her beloved home, she must search deep inside herself and embrace the destiny that has always awaited her.

3✨Biltmore is an actual place and some of the characters were real people. However, this is a completely fictional story of a girl more of nature than human. She has a good friend who cares for animals. Something strange is happening to the animals. Will Serafina be able to figure out what? A very unique story with a lot of detail and a cliff hanger at the end. #SeriesLove @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

3/52: Serafina and the Twisted Staff

This book sucked me in even MORE than the first one!! It was so well and this was a great continuation in the series. It scared me a little bit (which is good), and can‘t wait to read 3 and 4.

It was a long week, and I‘m so tired so this is the laziest post. 🤣 1,242 points for #teamhendrix #scarathlon for week 2

StayCurious I hear you when it comes to long weeks! Good job! 3y
wanderinglynn I have the same question as @BethM – did I miss week 2 check-in? 3y
alisiakae @BethM @wanderinglynn no, I‘m so sorry! I have not been feeling well. I am going to update the Google form to include all 4 weeks and tag everyone when I do so! It just might take a bit because I am dealing with a lot of fatigue and getting killer headaches every time I try to do something on my computer. 😬 3y

The adventures with Serafina and Braeden continue! This series evokes the atmosphere of the Pisgah National Forest and Biltmore estate so well! I do hope the next book in the series doesn‘t follow the same structure, or it will begin to feel a bit formulaic.

Took me awhile to think of a #blackcat book. I‘ve read the first 3 Serafina books, partly because they‘re set at the Biltmore. This is a great middle grade series but can be a little scary at times, depending on the kid (and adult 😬). Serafina can become a panther and guards the Biltmore with help from her friends.

Serafina and Braeden are back for another supernatural adventure at the Biltmore Estate. Starts slowly. Beatty should see how Rowling referred to what happened in the previous HP books. Anyway, someone wants to destroy the Biltmore and seems to be able to control or possess animals. All animals in the forest surrounding Biltmore are fleeing, even Serafina's family. Serafina, who is not completely at home in either place, decides to save Biltmore.

Listened to this on my way back from dropping my son off at my SIL for fencing camp. First couple of chapters were just restating what happened in book one. Seems like it's finally getting to the story in this book.

My only #signed book. Given to me at Christmas by my bookish niece and sister in law that live near Asheville. We all enjoyed the first Serafina book set at the Biltmore, and they said I needed the next one! It's in my pile for when I need some adventure.

Great continuation of the story. Beatty mixes in real people and places with folklore to create a hard-to-put-down story. With a strong female protagonist who learns the value of family and friends this is a good choice for middle school readers. It can be a bit dark and there are animal injuries/deaths/attacks in both books so this may be a series a parent may want to check out first for more sensitive readers.

This book is breaking my heart! So much had happened and I'm only half-way through. There's some serious stuff happening for a book geared toward younger readers. I love that there's not sense of talking down to the reader. Stay bold, indeed.

RanaElizabeth Oh! I loved the first book, didn't know there was a sequel! 8y

I feel this line really sums up how a lot people feel right now. When I read it I thought immediately of John Lewis and then all the other courageous people who have stood up for themselves and others. And then I thought about how many of us will be defined by the fights we chose in the coming years. #ReadersResist

monkeygirlsmama Both the books in this series were wonderfully conceptualized and written. I loved them both when I reviewed them. 8y

In order to meet my Goodreads Challenge goal I need to read 4 books a week. My last book club choice has me a little behind. Also, I'm annoyed that the last book I read doesn't have more of the aeries available so I can binge read it. I'm going away from my various challenge lists and reading this one. I enjoyed the first one. There's a lot of poetry in the writing and the addition of folklore is awesome!

monkeygirlsmama It's a great book. 8y

I'm really enjoying this series so far! I like how it pulls in folk lore of the Americas, and the darkness of it. It's rare to find that in middle grade. If you enjoyed the first book, then I don't think you'll be disappointed with this one. Serafina grows up a little more and discovers what it means to fit in, and I think she's gotten fiercer since the first story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Should be asleep...but I couldn't resist reading a few pages before I pass out from exhaustion. This one has to go back to the library later today, so I have about 10 or so hours of non-sleep time to get it done.
I enjoyed the first one quite a bit and I'm excited to see what Serafina has to face in this one.

I read the first, Serafina and the Black Cloak, this summer. It is a fun mystery/historical fiction. #augustphotochallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

Serafina is an interesting heroine, a young girl who just recently learned amazing things about her own heritage and abilities. At the beginning of the story she doesn't quite know where she fits in the world, and I loved seeing her continue to grow as a character in this action packed story.

Beatty's first Serafina book was one of my faves in 2015, so am looking forward to diving into this new adventure! This one begins on the Biltmore estate, 3 weeks after Serafina defeated the Man in the Black Cloak.
