Traveling anywhere is a danger, as vicious gangs of Raiders and fanatics called Purity Warriors search for their next victim. Those like Fallon, in possession of gifts, are huntedand the time is coming when her true nature, her identity as The One, can no longer be hidden. In a mysterious shelter in the forest, her training is about to begin under the guidance of Mallick, whose skills have been honed over centuries. She will learn the old ways of healing; study and spar; encounter faeries and elves and shifters; and find powers within herself she never imagined. And when the time is right, she will take up the sword, and fight. For until she grows into the woman she was born to be, the world outside will never be whole again.

So after being in a pretty bad reading slump, I decided to dip back into this, and it was a really good book. Not disappointed.

This book was a great continuation of Year One. I was worried we would lose focus on some of the larger cast but this was not the case. I didn't think it was as good as Year One but I still immediately bought the audiobook for The Rise of Magicks and I am LOVING it so far.

One of my goals for the year is finishing up some of the series I‘ve been keeping around for too long. Earlier this year, I finished the last two books of the Chronicles of The One series by Nora Roberts. I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of myself reading these. I had put off continuing it because of the whole pandemic elements for the first one but I just sped through these two and couldn‘t get enough. The second was my favorite out of them all.

Nora Roberts never lets me down even to me this book sounds kind of weird and that it shouldn‘t work but it totally does.

Unlike book 1 there is not a lot of action it is more about the world building, learning about the different uncanny and of course what it meant to be The One.

As this is Nora Roberts expect to have your heartstrings pulled.

I think I liked the sequel almost more than the first. I finished this one in record time for me. I loved the development of the main character and watching the changes in the side characters over the years. Looking forward to the final book. #audiobook #scribd #postapocalyptic

I spent most of today running errands for my mom. It is so hot and humid out there. Heat index about 103 I think. But I found out our used book store was open and looked and no one was in there, so wandered around in my mask. Came out with a haul, but not really certain books I was looking for. Still exciting.

Graciouswarriorprincess Good picks especially the cozies and One to Watch. 4y
tracey38 @Graciouswarriorprincess thanks! One to Watch is actually an Advanced Uncorrected Proof. I was surprised to see it on their New Arrivals shelf. But I have been seeing this book around a lot so got it. It's in trade paperback. The cozies looked good, too! 4y
BethM My friend just recommended One to Watch! 4y

I had hoped to like this book as much as I did the first book in this series, "Year One". "Year One" had this epic feel to it. This one, not at all. The begining and end were great. But often times it felt like a chore to read as quests are being completed. Almost like watching someone else playing a video game, but not being able to play yourself.
I still plan on completing the series, though I am not nearly as excited as I was.

Just finished my second vacation read. I read Year One two years ago on vacation and I liked the sequel even better. I'm not much for sequels but I think I'll go on to read the next one too! This is great for fans of post-apocalyptic fantasy!

Book two of “the one” trilogy. Really enjoying this series - well written, fast paced.
I can‘t wait to read the final one in the series. Hopefully I‘ll be able to request it from the library and it‘ll be in soon.

Buchbeeg I'm not usually a big fan of Nora Robert's, but this series is amazing! 4y

There are many things I enjoyed about this one. It started 13 years after the first, which almost makes it its own story while still following up on original characters to qualify as a sequel. The passage of time is a nice touch and really makes you feel as you‘re growing with the characters. It‘s got the drama of a YA with the complexity of an adult fantasy novel. An excellent follow up. Looking forward to the next one.

It took me a lot longer to read this than I expected, not because of the content, or the writing, but I think because I was trying to wait it out. I knew some key things were going to have to happen, and chances that they happen in this second book of the series were pretty slim. I may have been trying not to finish this one before I knew how long I'd have to wait for the third. It was a great set up for number three.

Having trouble getting through this one for some reason. It's not that I'm not enjoying it, but it never seems the right moment to read it. I feel like I may be dreading the upcoming events so much that I just don't even want to get to them.

On the other hand, I may just be getting way to psychological about my reading habits. #justreaditalready

I could. Not. Put. This. DOWN! That kind of writing irritates me, but I wanted to get my point across lol

I devoured this book! I loved the first one, and read this one in two days. Every spare minute I had was spent absorbing every page. It's weird because I'm not a huge fantasy person, but this book was very well written. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Just read Year One first...

Man, am I disappointed on this one. This went from a great post-apocalyptic novel to one of pure fantasy. Magic and faeries are just not my jam. Ugh...I hate when a second book in a series takes such a massive turn.

KrystleTheBookSlayer That's good to know...I'm not sure if I should even bother reading the first book then 😟 5y

Book 2 in the Chronicles of The One is another winner for me. I loved the continuation of the story. The feminist in me got a little mad a couple of times when she‘s always forcing couples slash romance. I was happy for the way she integrated the occult and rituals into the training of Fallon. She had to perform rituals for Samhain and Yule. She also had to make teas, tinctures, oils, and potions from herbs for healing. Not just use her power.
