She finds a woman‘s body that has washed upon the shore. Once the police arrive, they discover the woman is wearing a vintage nightgown and wrapped within is an infant. No one knows the identity of the woman.

Daughters of the Lake was a really riveting read! Full of gothic lore and mystery, this was a great story that didn't stop building until the very end. I will admit, there was one small section towards the latter portion of the book where I felt things got a little bit silly, but overall I was completely invested in this eerie tale.

Here is my review for another audiobook I listened to.

I like the atmosphere, setting and characters. The mystery was OK, but it seemed like the author tried to do too many different things in the end.

I enjoyed this one, but I did find it hard to follow in certain parts when it jumped around in time and between characters. It was definitely creepy and I thought the writing was good, just a bit complicated in parts.

I‘m going to have come back to this one. It just wasn‘t holding my attention.

The beginning of the book was quite gripping and I thought it was going in a completely different direction. By the end I wasn‘t too fussed about it, I figured out the twist pretty early on and got quite angry about one character that was disappointing. However! The book is really readable and some aspects of the story were nice

The first couple chapters grabbed me and made me think I would love this book. Then, it revealed itself to be a sappy romantic ghost story. Definitely not my thing. The older I get, I find it harder and harder to stomach the sickeningly sweet love stories. You know the ones--a couple fated to be together, love stories that endure into death. Gag! 🤢 I stayed around for the murder mystery component, which was entirely too easy to figure out.

This one was so totally not what I usually read, but I found it strangely intriguing. It held my attention, kept me reading, and only made me roll my eyes a couple of times 😉

I honestly wasn't sure about this book, but once I got into it, it turned out to be an awesome read.

Finished this at work and it was so aggressively not my cup of tea that I feel bad reviewing it. Suffice to say it was a comforting, chaste romance and I'm seriously not into those at all. #fantasy

Hoping to finish this audiobook today while working on this fossil. Wish I was like the book as much as the work. Oh well.

I suspect this book isn't my cup of tea, but it's nice to be listening to it while spending time at home with my cats at least.

This was exactly what I‘d thought it‘d be, so I can‘t actually claim to be disappointed.

Everything is very easy plot wise when you can just explain it with a dream...

Loved this book! Such amazing atmosphere and imagery. I felt like I was right there watching the events occur with my own eyes.

The Daughters of the Lake is a modern 5star Gothic masterpiece. WendyWebb levitates between centuries effortlessly. Her characters are packed with tangible dimension. Tragedy, humor, ghosts, romance, murder, redemption, justice, friendship, family and a magical lake spirit.. This novel is the story that keeps giving until its very last line. If you like books with ghosts and paranormal experiences.. this is the book! It was a PERFECT October read.

It wasn‘t bad, but so annoying that all women in this book were so unfulfilled without their men. Women don‘t need to be in a relationship,so that they can be told how beautiful and sexy they are. They should already know that...

This story took me on a loop. It's not creepy but the mystery is there and it's more complex than her other stories. I had my guesses but of course I wasn't sure if I was correct. The very last chapter was also surprising because as the mystery came to an end I suspected the story to close, but Ms. Webb decided to give one final blow. It was very unexpected and I literally had the open-mouthed look when I closed the book.

*A lake with it's secrets.
*Drowned woman reaches out from the grave.

I'm excited on diving into this one! 🤗

This is my first book club book choice for the group I started almost a decade ago! I‘m looking forward to discussing it tomorrow as it‘s probably between a so-so and a pick for me... I enjoyed the historical and modern plots, but didn‘t enjoy the omniscient POV or the somewhat stilted dialogue... I loved Alaska though! #malamutelit

Daughters of the Lake starts strong with some lovable characters and quaint locales. It falls apart by the end, wrapping things up quickly and throwing so many scenes in. Ideas were coming left and right without enough set up.

If the book could have settled in on one or two ideas done well, it would have given the focus needed to pull this book through to a stronger finish.

This book had me hooked from the very first page to the last. The way the characters fell together was art to me. There was a perfect balance of romance, mystery, thrill, and paranormal. Highly recommend!

Often times, with the free Kindle First Reads, I pick a book that I wouldn't normally choose just to broaden my horizons and step out of my comfort zone. That was the case with this book and, guess what...I liked it!
A pick, but not an all-time favorite or anything. The story was fast-paced and kept me interested.

Although this has an overall feeling of melancholy, its a story of the powerful emotions of love, and a story of believing that anything is possible. A bittersweet story of connections and the supernatural.

I was not expecting this to grab my attention in the way it did. I was bored waiting for my appointment at the eye doctor‘s office so I opened up my kindle app on my phone and opened the first book that was there. I finished it just a few hours later, I even didn‘t hear my waiter at dinner at one point.

There are quite a few parts of this book I do not quite understand and probably never will, but overall, it was entrancing.

Daughters of the Lake is a historical, gothic mystery ghost story that pulls you in from the start. It begins with Kate returning to her parents‘ house on the lake after she splits from her husband. A woman‘s body washes up on shore & the strange thing is the woman looks familiar. That‘s because Kate has been having dreams of her. Kate is determined to find out more about the dead mystery woman & begins her own investigation.

I haven't done a #kindlefirst in a really long time. This one seems interesting though.

This was the Kindle First book I got this month. Not perfect, but it‘s made for very good commute reading this week!

Creepiness, madness, romance, mysterious happenings, beautiful houses, charming towns, selfishness, supernatural elements... all present and accounted for. It wasn't as atmospheric as I usually hope for in a gothic novel but it was pretty good. Left me wishing I had a Simon in my life.
