Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel | Mariah Marsden
The magic of L.M. Montgomerys treasured classic is reimagined in a whimsically-illustrated graphic novel adaptation perfect for newcomers and kindred spirits alike. When Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan who can help manage their family farm, they have no idea what delightful trouble awaits them. With flame-red hair and an unstoppable imagination, 11-year-old Anne Shirley takes Green Gables by storm. Annes misadventures bring a little romance to the lives of everyone she meets: her bosom friend, Diana Barry; the town gossip, Mrs. Lynde; and that infuriating tease, Gilbert Blythe. From triumphs and thrills to the depths of despair, Anne turns each everyday moment into something extraordinary. L.M. Montgomerys classic story finds new expression in the whimsical illustrations of this graphic novel. Perfect for newcomers and kindred spirits alike.

Such a sweet adaptation with lovely interpretations of the characters and especially the settings. Also reminds me that I still haven‘t tried the Netflix show!

Anne of Green Gablrs a graphic novel is adapted by Mariah Marsden from L.M. Montgomery‘s classic tale. I really enjoyed this adaptation and think it would be especially great for kids. Anne Shirley is an 11 year old girl with an absolutely unstoppable imagination. The tale of this young girl takes you on a journey with all of its many ups and downs.

Jarring how keeping orphans for their work (child labour) seems commonplace, and keeping Anne only if she promised to behave. While she won them over despite incidents and it's to the adoptive siblings' credit as much as the adoptee, I have to wonder what would have happened if she started out NOT adorable and precocious? How many foster kids read this story and blame themselves for not being sweet/imaginative/clever enough to warrant adoption?

Bklover Ya gotta good point!! 2y

THE reigning drama queen, but she's got a way with words. Blasphemous perhaps, but if I'm going to be reacquainted with the series I read as a child, I'm glad there was a graphic novel adaptation so I could avoid some of the fuss and the frilly language.

Just finished rereading the series ❤️ decided to cap it off with a graphic novel adaptation 😊 the illustrations captures the way Anne interacts with nature beautifully 🪴LMM‘s passages about the beauty of nature are transcendental indeed 🌅about to start tangled web #kindredspirits

Finished this graphic novel adaptation today. I liked that it wasn‘t too wordy and relied a lot more on the illustrations to tell the story. The style reminded me of the illustrations from one of my favorite books as a kid, Just Plain Fancy. #BookSpinBingo

Things I enjoyed about this GN: the depiction and aging of Anne (and the art in general), that it showed more of the story than it told in words, that the authors did a great job of staying true to Anne‘s evolution from girl to woman.

However, I wish that they had made each novel into a separate graphic novel rather than jamming them all into one.

I still cried when Matthew died. I always cry then. 😭

I‘m not generally a fan of graphic novels, but the drawings in this one were sweet and captured the special relationships among the characters even if it gave very brief mention to some major episodes - the mouse! That would have been great illustrated. Overall a fun read and a good intro to Anne for young readers.

Nothing like devouring a whole graphic novel because you feel too unsettled to sleep.
This is a beautiful graphic novel and a delight to read. I find thee way that the adults treat Anne in this book to be completely horrible, but the story is overall sweet and this graphic novel is an excellent representation. #graphicnovel #comic #adaptation

After reading my first graphic novel this year I thought I would give this a go. As a huge fan of the original book and the movie series I was nervous, however there was no need. This was just as charming. I feel like a few of the details were different but it didn't detract from the spirit and feel.

And most importantly it allowed me to introduce one of my all time favourite characters to my two year old, when we read a few pages together.

As someone who has loved Anne of Green Gables since I was a little girl, I must say they did an excellent job of capturing the essence of Anne & LMM‘s original story. I was wary at first, but I adore the artwork, and was also moved to tears more than once. I‘ll post my fave lol moment from the book after this. Highly recommended to fans of Anne! Overall a successful adaptation to graphic novel form, and one that sees a lot of use at my library. I love the illustrations and art style and the focus on nature as a way of showing the passage of time. I‘m not sure the characterization is deep enough without the background of the original novel to prop it up, though.

A snow day nostalgic read and an excellent #GraphicNovel adaptation. Marsden is thoughtful in her choice of moments to include and at distilling them. I have a few quibbles about the illustrations (no pupils in characters' eyes was weird, and Diana isn't plump, the roads aren't red) but I did love the colour palette and the landscape and domestic details. It never mentions PEI as the setting. What are you trying to do American adapters??

Anne and Diana eating ice cream at the picnic. In general I really like the illustrations in this #GraphicNovel adaptation, but I am disappointed that Diana isn't beautifully plump with dimples in her elbows like Anne is jealous of in the original. I also find the artist's choice to not draw pupils in eyes a bit weird? I love the colour palette though and the expressiveness of people's faces. #AnneofGreenGables

Anne of Green Gables a graphic novel by Mariah Marsden is a great way to encourage historical fiction in a more entertaining way. The story is about a family who lives on a farm looks to adopt a son to help keep the farm going but rather gets sent a young girl. We get to learn what an imaginative person Anne is through awesome pictures illustrated by Brenna Thummler.

BRaulerson A standard that could relate to this story is https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewStandard/Preview/5701.
The UDL Guideline I would use is offers alternatives for visual information. The graphic novel is a great way to put a visual with a story to keep the reader engaged. The ESOL strategy I would use is integrating speaking, listening, reading, and writing. #UCFLAE3414F19

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is a really cute and generally well-executed adaptation, however, the lack of scleras made the eyes look a bit odd. I know that‘s nit picky, but I‘m just being honest. Otherwise the illustrations are really beautiful. Anne still touched my heart.

QueenJen I don't think it's not picky at all. I won't read some comics/graphic novels if I don't like the art style!😉 5y
