This was a Christmas gift and I had to jump right into it for the first book of the year. I enjoyed it and as usual didn‘t guess entirely right. 😂

It was dusk when he came to the Ferry.
He could have been there much earlier. The truth was, he had put it off as long as he could.

I see why Agatha Christie has been a popular author for so long. There are no major subplots, no extraneous characters, just a murder mystery that it‘s impossible not to try to solve as you read along. Very fun…as far as murder goes!
I‘m about to embark upon my first Agatha Christie novel. I‘m embarrassed to say I‘m over 50 and have never read anything by her 😮

Love reading books by a fire. Let alone at a hotel, preparing for your brothers graduation
This was a longer story about family passions. Someone in this adopted family killed the mother, but who in this loving family? Not the guy I thought, though had the cover person. It was fun to look back at the hints hidden through. Interesting angle on the over bearing Mother and wild child. The planning had it gone. Didn‘t like end point. #AgathaChristie
“I‘ve always understood”, said Clegg, “that an English trial was as fair a thing as can be.”
“The finest system in the world can make a mistake”, said Callgary, “justice, is, after all, in the hands of men and men are fallible.”
—this is the story is a hidden estranged family of adopted children of a benevolent mother. Where one murder the mother. But who?
Also had to show off my new literary socks. #AgathaChrstie
The thing I like about Christie is trying to figure out which clues are important and which are red herrings as I go along. It‘s fun trying to solve the mystery along with the people in the book.

This one is a little different from other Christie books I have read. Centered on a family whose mother is murdered, they have to revisit who could have killed her. Most of the story is just convos between characters, but it‘s increasing the tension & suspicion until people snap.
I almost gave this a so-so because there‘s at least 4 negative comments-about race, 👇
"The fact was she was nearly always right, that she did know best. If she‘d been one of those women who run into debt, lose their keys, miss trains, and do foolish actions that other people have to help them out of, her entire family would have been much fonder of her."
Hearing faint echoes of "Absent in the Spring", resentment of female authority who seems to know best and does no wrong (practically speaking!) @vivastory thans for the rec.
I've long felt that Agatha Christie is darker than people give her credit for. The lack of graphic subject matter doesn't inhibit her ability to portray mature themes. I greatly enjoyed this one AND I (sort of) figured out the murderer! Had to pose the book with my new car decal.
I read this Mar 4-11 & rated it 4 ⭐️. I am participating in the 2020 Read Christie read-a-thon from the official Christie website. This was for the prompt of a story that Christie loved. This was an enjoyable read and I found one of her better mysteries. I quite like her stand alone novels more than her famous detectives so far.
Guys...binge watched this yesterday on Amazon Prime and it was SO GOOD. A true who-done-it that kept me guessing to the end. Superb acting and cinematography. It‘s three episodes so you can binge tonight! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(The ABC Murders starring John Malkovich is also on prime and it, too, is excellent.)
Hades is showing me how cute he is so I will stop playing on Litsy and snuggle up with him. #kittenlitten #catsoflitsy
So, goodnight everyone!
My landlord divided up the backyard at my house so now I actually HAVE a backyard. The swing is now up for outside reading and listening/watching the birds.
I want to watch the Amazon Prime show, so this one is up next.
Sick day supplies. 😷😕
I dread sick days for all the work that will be waiting for me tomorrow. But for now, I read. #readforhealth
I downloaded this for my UK trip, but wasn‘t in audiobook mode while traveling. I did watch the BBC miniseries adaptation on the plane & really enjoyed it. I finished the audiobook this morning & am completely floored by how different the two versions are! Same setup & characters, but SO different that I was wondering throughout the book whether the murderer would even be the same. Both kept me guessing & I recommend both on their own merits!
1. From the British Museum last week! Spent a lot of time in the Egyptian sections.
2. Currently reading too many! The tagged is my current audiobook.
3. Catch up on sleeeeeeep. Also probably go see The Hate U Give.
4. The flowers on my slippers.
5. 🎶 If you‘re out on the road, feeling lonely and so cold... 🎶

This book was okay. A little confusing on audio with all the different characters and POVs. I definitely did not guess who the bad guy was, so that was quite a surprise. Not my favorite Agatha Christie, but still an enjoyable mystery.
I really wanted to read this one, so I could watch the TV series on Amazon Prime.
Listening to the tagged audiobook while I make waffles for breakfast, well I guess at this hour, it‘d be considered brunch! 😂
Happy Sunday! 💕
Received this book as a goodreads giveaway and loved it. This is no surprise as I have loved every Agatha Christie novel I've read. No one sets a murder scene with so many possible suspects the way that Christie can. I guess that is why she is the Queen of Mystery.
Just discovered this on Amazon Prime! Was completely unaware that this was going to be a thing! I‘ll take some snarky Bill Nighy any day....not to mention Matthew Goode AKA my pretend boyfriend 😍
I got some book mail lovin' today and more wonderful #jb letters. I really needed this! ❤❤❤ #feelingslightlylesssad
I wanted to read this one before the new mini series premieres. I loved the focus on solving a crime long after the fact instead of in the heat of the moment. It‘s all about mistrust and assumed guilt. How well do you really know the people in your family? UPDATE: The miniseries totally changed the ending. I wasn‘t a fan.
I haven‘t read nearly enough Agatha Christie, which I‘m trying to rectify. I won this book on Goodreads. I understand it was one of Agatha Christie‘s favorites and I can see why! Kept me guessing until the end despite plenty of foreshadowing. Loved this story about “the calamity of the innocent.” Now to hunt down the BBC series...
(Photo from the new BBC adaptation.)
My previous Christie read was a disappointment (Elephants Can Remember - but I wish I couldn‘t), this was a return to the author in her stride. There were instances of racism, especially since one of the characters is biracial. I think these instances showed the personalities and problems of the characters who expressed them.
What happens when the condemned is proven innocent? Are all guilty by association?
I read this book recently to prepare for a BBC adaptation currently on TV in the UK. I sourced a copy of this book that was published in the 1970s and the illustrations are FUNKY.
What to do when the child wakes you up two hours early on a Sunday morning?
This.
I feel like I should have guessed this one. Another winner from Agatha.
Just starting #deweyreadathon
My only goal is to make some progress in the books I'm already reading.
Seems like a good day to start another Christie book. I bought a handful of her books with this type of cover YEARS ago, but keep passing them up for newer, better looking covers. I'm determined to read the ones I already have before I start buying more, but it's so hard!
"A man who was a cripple, only half a man, what did it matter where he was?"
Oh my god, if authors could just stop writing stuff like that. I mean, I love Agatha Christie, but as a crip it's sooo annoying to see this "cripple = half a person" (mostly "half a man") thing, and the "because I'm disabled nothing matter in my life". Just ~ let it go ~
And don't use the word cripple unless you are one yourself.
This book really touts that "when a woman cannot have biological children she will obsess over any and all children, and never settle down". I don't really agree with that. I'm sure there are people who do react like that, but none of those I know with adopted children are like that. One interesting thing is the lack of stories of adoption from those who are adopted, in general. It's not all roses and happiness.
I have read this book before, but I really wanted to do so again. If you haven't noticed, I'm going through all of Agatha Christie's books now, started with the Tommy & Tuppence ones, now on the independent ones, and I'm not counting the Mary Westmacott ones. (Might read those later though.)
