Collected for the first time, here are the twelve extraordinary illustrated volumes that form the graphic novel of THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. Evocative full-color paintings and an artful abridgment of the original text capture the inimitable spirit and atmosphere of this passionate, complex, and thrilling tale. The story begins in our own time with Lestat, tall, blond, and handsome, a world-renowned rock star. His gifts are timeless, his youth never withers. But he was not always the powerful and famous child of darkness. Before his long earth-encrusted sleep, he was an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-Revolutionary France. It was then that he came face-to-face with the incarnation of evil and the temptations of love that he has ravenously pursued through time. Where it has led him and what he has become is the heart of the tale that has captured millions of readers.

It's 8AM and I'm thinking about A “fun“ story from college.

It was my first Lit. Course and the Prof. Was very pressed when I was reading this book (she thought it was trashy) that she gave me a bunch of adult fiction that I ended up giving away. Titles included the Kite Runner and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. There was not a single book there that kept my attention.

Moral of the story: let people read whatever they want. They know better.

Doppoetry This was outside of classes too, to make things worse. It really felt like she just picked the most popular books at the time, disregarding the fact that I was not interested in reading that type of fiction to begin with. (I'm not saying those books have no literary value)

I'm sad I didn't have the confidence or courage to tell her to shove it for wasting my time. Categorizing good and bad by popularity rather than content.
7mo
Doppoetry Some people are well meaning but their biases prevent them from letting others enjoy certain novels that they deem to have no literary value. Some books don't particularly need to have literary value to be enjoyable. Let people read what they want, and mind your business. One day I will go back to The Vampire Lestat in spite of it all. 7mo

After reading interviews with the vampire for #scarathlon I‘ve been inspired to re-read the vampire chronicles which I absolutely LOVED as a gothy teenager 😆 this one didn‘t disappoint, Lestat is such a great character, really excited to be back on his adventures!

I really enjoy Anne Rice's writing, she makes it very atmospheric and grand. And Lestat is very fun and reckless (and has a weird thing going on with his mom...)

Hit up my first yard sales of the season this morning! There wasn't much to offer but I did score a mini book haul. Nothing I would have spent big bucks on but for $3? They definitely fit in my collection.

Score of the day though was the brand new $20 air fryer. I swear I'm the only person on earth who didn't have one. My teen is happy as hell right now 🤣🤣

🖤 what a storyteller. I‘m devastated. Anne got me through some really tough times, rip 🪦

Leftcoastzen Lovely display of her titles! 😢 2y
tokorowilliamwallace I'm currently testing her work out, and I've started Taltos first (next is Mummy). What were your thoughts on that one? I'm not very far in, but the two threads I've come across so far almost seemed like two completely different books, though I've enjoyed aspects of both, including the charming and interesting characterization. 2y
TheNeverendingTBR Love those paperback editions! 😍 2y
reading_rainbow @tokorowilliamwallace I‘m sorry, I have not read Taltos yet, as it is the 3rd book in the Mayfair Witches but I did learn a little about the Talamasca in Queen of Damned and I thought it was really interesting. I would start with the first 3 installments of the Vampire Chronicles, Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. They are incredible 2y

Heartbroken this morning learning of the passing of one of my favorite authors.
A roommate/friend told me I should read The Vampire Lestat and I was hooked. I started following Ms Rice on social media and discover she was a wonderful person as well as writer.
I wish peace and comfort to her family and friends.

Ok, so now I like Lestat a whole lot more than I did at the end of Interview with the Vampire. Some observations:

• Anne Rice is pretty freaking good.

• This story is ambitious, sprawling around a lot of the world and huge spans of time.

• These vampires have some interesting histories and legends.

• Tom Cruise really had no business playing Lestat. Seriously, wtf was up with that casting? 🙄

On to the next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

andreadmw YES!! To all your observations. I was a Louie girl until I read this novel. Well, honestly, don‘t think I ever stopped being a Louie girl. But, definitely softened my heart to Lestat. What a story! 5y

Wow! That was a long listen at 21+ hours. I guess when you‘re immortal, you have a long story to tell. While I enjoyed this, I struggled to maintain my interest at times. I plan to read the next installment of the vampire series, but will be taking a break for awhile.

SailorMoon Is this the same Lestat vampire that is in the movie "Interview with the vampire"? Have you watched it? 5y
RadicalReader @NatalieR never seen a better justification for a lengthy listen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 5y

The 1st time I read this book I loved it. I wished to visit all the places described In the book- Paris, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carmel Valley... Reading this book for the 2nd time- I enjoyed it even more. As super adult (someone over her 30‘s) I have visited all the places I had only read about the 1st time (except for Egypt- that‘s still a dream). I‘ll be reading the 3rd book this month. Anyone else reading the Vampire Chronicles?

Karkar I just finished this one last month too! 5y
RavenLovelyReads @Karkar Yay! Are you planning on reading book 3? I hope to reread all the chronicles this year 🤓 5y

I wanted to revisit the #vampirechronicles, and while I‘m enjoying the story- I can‘t get my mind‘s eye to stop seeing Tom Cruise as Lestat! He was not what Lestat looked like in my head the first time I read the books! My Lestat was beautiful, fresh faced, a bit boyish and had a spectacular French accent! Littens- am I the only one whose mind‘s eye was ruined by this casting? 🙁

RebL TC didn‘t look like my Lestat either, though he certainly did replace my imagining. TC is an actor who I think I don‘t like, but he delivers. I can‘t help but be pulled along by his performances. 5y
RavenLovelyReads @RebL Thanks for the reply-I‘m not into celebrities and their lives- so this really isn‘t an issue of liking the actor...his performance was good. I‘m struggling with his “look” and how it destroyed the image I had made when I first read the book. You mentioned that he replaced your imagining- that‘s exactly right! Perfect wording for what I‘m feeling 🤓I‘m just struggling because I don‘t like the replacement and miss my image of him. 5y
RebL I‘m with you 💯 & don‘t think I could revisit the series as a result. 5y
See All 8 Comments
SpiderCrafts I'm also reading The Vampire Lestat in the New Year. The soundtrack interest I had for Queen of the Damned will likely have Stuart Townsend's Lestat in mind for me. I've seen that film more times over again, than Tom's Interview With The Vampire, although I've got a long ways of catching up with the books! 5y
Dragon My Lestat was very tall in my opinion, a lot taller than Tom Cruise 😀🐉 5y
RavenLovelyReads @Dragon 😂😂 Yes- he describes himself as 6‘ tall, gray eyes that catch blue or violet, and having thick blond hair- “not quite shoulder length and rather curly”.... (first page of TVL) None of this is Tom Cruise! 😂😂 someone must have owed his agent a favor! 😜 5y
RavenLovelyReads @AlobelThee Stuart Townsend has the right body type- but I‘m still struggling with the face and hair. Still...much more believable than TC 😉 5y

Every time I reread THE VAMPIRE LESTAT I see new things in it, and underline new bits, and find new ways to love it. There's magic in that.

I also shake my head at fifteen-year-old me, who did. not. get. how extremely queer it is. Heteronormativity's a dark strain of magic indeed.

But yeah. I love the hell out of this book. It's a forever fave. And after a nine-year break, I'm ready to put Lestat back on my List of Favourite Literary Characters.

BethFishReads I haven‘t read this in years. I wonder what the audios are like 6y
