The Vampire Lestat
The Vampire Lestat | Anne Rice
Collected for the first time, here are the twelve extraordinary illustrated volumes that form the graphic novel of THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. Evocative full-color paintings and an artful abridgment of the original text capture the inimitable spirit and atmosphere of this passionate, complex, and thrilling tale. The story begins in our own time with Lestat, tall, blond, and handsome, a world-renowned rock star. His gifts are timeless, his youth never withers. But he was not always the powerful and famous child of darkness. Before his long earth-encrusted sleep, he was an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-Revolutionary France. It was then that he came face-to-face with the incarnation of evil and the temptations of love that he has ravenously pursued through time. Where it has led him and what he has become is the heart of the tale that has captured millions of readers.

this might be my new favorite book atm. what an incredible journey! this book is rich with so many places and ever changing times and characters. parts were haunting and grotesque, funny, beautiful.. ugh!!! wow i wasn‘t expecting it be like this, what a difference it was to Interview w/Vampire yet they pair beautifully together. i can‘t wait to continue the series and soak up more of this mythos! My Lelio, My Wolfkiller ❣️

Ok, so now I like Lestat a whole lot more than I did at the end of Interview with the Vampire. Some observations:

• Anne Rice is pretty freaking good.

• This story is ambitious, sprawling around a lot of the world and huge spans of time.

• These vampires have some interesting histories and legends.

• Tom Cruise really had no business playing Lestat. Seriously, wtf was up with that casting? 🙄

On to the next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

andreadmw YES!! To all your observations. I was a Louie girl until I read this novel. Well, honestly, don‘t think I ever stopped being a Louie girl. But, definitely softened my heart to Lestat. What a story! 10mo

Wow! That was a long listen at 21+ hours. I guess when you‘re immortal, you have a long story to tell. While I enjoyed this, I struggled to maintain my interest at times. I plan to read the next installment of the vampire series, but will be taking a break for awhile.

SailorMoon Is this the same Lestat vampire that is in the movie "Interview with the vampire"? Have you watched it? 12mo
RadicalReader @NatalieR never seen a better justification for a lengthy listen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 12mo
NatalieR @SailorMoon No, I haven‘t seen the movie. But from reading the first 2 books, yes this is the same Lestat vampire. 🧛🏻‍♂️ 12mo

The 1st time I read this book I loved it. I wished to visit all the places described In the book- Paris, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carmel Valley... Reading this book for the 2nd time- I enjoyed it even more. As super adult (someone over her 30‘s) I have visited all the places I had only read about the 1st time (except for Egypt- that‘s still a dream). I‘ll be reading the 3rd book this month. Anyone else reading the Vampire Chronicles?

Karkar I just finished this one last month too! 12mo
RavenLovelyReads @Karkar Yay! Are you planning on reading book 3? I hope to reread all the chronicles this year 🤓 12mo

I wanted to revisit the #vampirechronicles, and while I‘m enjoying the story- I can‘t get my mind‘s eye to stop seeing Tom Cruise as Lestat! He was not what Lestat looked like in my head the first time I read the books! My Lestat was beautiful, fresh faced, a bit boyish and had a spectacular French accent! Littens- am I the only one whose mind‘s eye was ruined by this casting? 🙁

RebL TC didn‘t look like my Lestat either, though he certainly did replace my imagining. TC is an actor who I think I don‘t like, but he delivers. I can‘t help but be pulled along by his performances. 13mo
RavenLovelyReads @RebL Thanks for the reply-I‘m not into celebrities and their lives- so this really isn‘t an issue of liking the actor...his performance was good. I‘m struggling with his “look” and how it destroyed the image I had made when I first read the book. You mentioned that he replaced your imagining- that‘s exactly right! Perfect wording for what I‘m feeling 🤓I‘m just struggling because I don‘t like the replacement and miss my image of him. 13mo
RebL I‘m with you 💯 & don‘t think I could revisit the series as a result. 13mo

AlobelThee I'm also reading The Vampire Lestat in the New Year. The soundtrack interest I had for Queen of the Damned will likely have Stuart Townsend's Lestat in mind for me. I've seen that film more times over again, than Tom's Interview With The Vampire, although I've got a long ways of catching up with the books! 13mo
Dragon My Lestat was very tall in my opinion, a lot taller than Tom Cruise 😀🐉 13mo
RavenLovelyReads @Dragon 😂😂 Yes- he describes himself as 6‘ tall, gray eyes that catch blue or violet, and having thick blond hair- “not quite shoulder length and rather curly”.... (first page of TVL) None of this is Tom Cruise! 😂😂 someone must have owed his agent a favor! 😜 13mo
RavenLovelyReads @AlobelThee Stuart Townsend has the right body type- but I‘m still struggling with the face and hair. Still...much more believable than TC 😉 13mo

“Very few beings really seek knowledge in this world. Mortal or immortal, few really ask. On the contrary, they try to wring from the unknown the answers they have already shaped in their own minds—justifications, confirmations, forms of consolation without which they can‘t go on. To really ask is is to open the door to the whirlwind. The answer may annihilate the question and the questioner.”

Every time I reread THE VAMPIRE LESTAT I see new things in it, and underline new bits, and find new ways to love it. There's magic in that.

I also shake my head at fifteen-year-old me, who did. not. get. how extremely queer it is. Heteronormativity's a dark strain of magic indeed.

But yeah. I love the hell out of this book. It's a forever fave. And after a nine-year break, I'm ready to put Lestat back on my List of Favourite Literary Characters.

I made it through Marius's POV! I liked it a bit more now than I did when I was younger, but I still ended up skimming near the end. Life's too short to pay close attention to Marius.

I listened to about sixty pages of ACOWAR, too, brining my #25inFive total to 19:55. This feels doable.

I KNOW. Everyone loves him. I'm a weirdo.

Eventually I said damn the rules and skipped his bit entirely. It's been 14 or 15 years since I last read it, so this time I'm gonna TRY.

I transferred all my clovers from my reading copy to my secondary copy and made a WONDROUS DISCOVERY: the Part title pages are different between the two editions. Even better, the trade paperback cycles between a few different designs instead of using the same one over and over.

Finding four- and five-leaf clovers is my superpower, and I store them in all my favourite books. These days I tuck 'em in every 25 pages, but luckily I went with my old method for THE VAMPIRE LESTAT: 100-page intervals starting with page 150. It makes the book a bit easier to read.

I should probably transfer them all into my trade paperback copy, which I bought for curiosity's sake (and because I'm a weirdo who likes multiple formats for faves).

CherylSwafford I love The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. One of my faves💞 2y

This afternoon I was all, "I'm gonna conquer La TBR!"

This evening I pulled THE VAMPIRE LESTAT off the shelf just to look at it, and the next thing I knew La TBR and its 431 unread books meant zip to me.

TVL used to be my favourite book and Lestat was my Favouritest of Favourite Literary Characters, but it's been 5 years since I've reread it and 13 since I read my own copy (which matters because marginalia). Guess that's set to change.

xicanti I'll probably read some comics tonight, too. Gotta finish ULTIMATE X-MEN. 2y

When thinking of a #morallygreycharacter I think of those characters who do things that we might think are unconscionable, and who because of their qualities not only make us not hate them for it but also sometimes hate themselves for it. One of the best examples of this I think is the main character in so many books in this series, The Brat Prince himself, Lestat.

Gives a nice look of lestats life and more insight into who he is a person. Can be a slow read at some points.

DelhotJ4 Not so much of a slow read, simply filled with description and romanticism. Anne Rice can take simplistic events such as dressing or walking and show every sensual event surrounding those events. This is a difficult way to read for many people who might just want to get to the next action. But when we allow ourselves into this mindset, so much eroticism opens up to us in every aspect of our days. 2y

It was hard for me to stay interested in this book. Everything is crazy now so it could be that my reality is coloring the story. I hated how easy it seemed for Lestat at first. He learned with ease and was able to help others almost immediately (hard to read when I'm at a point where I can't help others). I will try this series again soon.
