The Witching Hour | Anne Rice
post image
Pickpick

Anne Rice built an entire universe of fear and gothic romance in her career and this epic of a book highlights everything she did well. I loved Part 2 of this novel with its historical narratives and point of view changes. Unfortunately, the story does not end on the final page, as a sequel promises to tell more. So be wary, dear reader, and only dive in if you plan to wander down the path of terror (I‘ll be waiting until next October to proceed).

I read this as a teenager and loved it. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the rest of the trilogy.

BookwormAHN I had the same problem 💜🐈‍⬛💜 1mo

I recommend The Witching Hour by Anne Rice as a possible October read. It‘s been around awhile, and has a TV series, but the book is different. I‘m a lifelong horror fan, but this book unsettled me more than any other horror book I‘ve read. So if you are looking for actual creeps and chills this spooky season, you might give it a try!

Exit to Eden | Anne Rice
Mehso-so

Sometimes this book got at what it was reaching for, and sometimes it was clouded by 80s conceptions and language, and sometimes it sank like a stone under the exoticising racism and transphobia of something written by a rich white lady from New Orleans. A roller coaster, to be sure.

I will say this about this weirdly constructed book - the vacation interlude sure makes me want to take a rich fuck vacation, a thing that I will -never- be able to do

I liked this more second time around (first read about 20 years ago) but definitely the weakest of the vampire chronicles so far. Theological musings really not my thing, looking forward to getting back to proper vampire adventures in the next instalment 🤞
