Renegades
Renegades | Marissa Meyer
From #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer, comes a high-stakes world of adventure, passion, danger, and betrayal. Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice. The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone...except the villains they once overthrew. Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

I love twists on superheroes. The twist in this case is our protagonist is actually a villain, spying on superhero headquarters. It's nothing bizarre as far as plotlines go, but Nova's not an evil villain. She's a teen girl whose world was torn apart too young. It sounds fun, and mostly is. I found it difficult to immerse myself within the world. I did like the characters, though none were standouts. I still will be picking up the second one soon!

Good. The biggest issue for me in this book was that I was not really interested in the romance because I can predict the ending of that but the plot it‘s self was really interesting but need more back history more of the characters, looking forward for the next book .

Some of the #BestBookFriendship I've ever known is in these two book clubs, one of which is meeting tomorrow to discuss the tagged book. And okay, Alexandra Bracken isn't our friend YET, but if she ever moves back to town, YA Book Club is taking her out for Korean food. #EclecticReaders #LiteraryLuck

Meh. This book was okay, but I much prefer her Lunar Chronicles, and even Heartless. Renegades had a really interesting setup, but the ideas and commentary were all pretty basic. It relied on the concept of blurring the lines between heroes and villains, but didn't really add anything to the conversation. Oh well.

I won‘t lie, this was a bit of a slow starter for me. Nova might side with the villains but I never really bought her as a bad person, and even the rest of the Anarchists didn‘t seem so bad. I like the slow-burn romance with Adrian and the other renegades are fun. I will keep reading the series.

jmtrivera I actually like that about the so-called villains. They're probably not villainous at all, but perception is everything. Frighteningly real, if you think about it too long! 4mo

I have been a BUSY GIRL since the summer, so now it‘s time to play catch up! I loved this book (not as much as Cinder, but hey, superheroes). I‘m a sucker for powers, and the characters are super likable. I didn‘t have a major problem with anything really. There were some token gays, but the main characters weren‘t white (one was Filipino-Italian and the other was black) and I can‘t wait to read the next book!

My first read of 2019 was the audio of Renegades by Marissa Meyer. I finished it on January 5th, 2019. I really enjoy Meyer's books and enjoyed this take on the superhero world. The narrator was great, too! #animalsandbooks

Well, that was a let-down. The set up was intriguing enough, and the philosophical stakes of the world interesting — but that‘s pretty much where it stayed. Mildly interesting. While I liked Nova and Adrian well enough, they weren‘t enough to spark life into a pretty mediocre, low-stakes plot that felt dragging. Somewhat fun, if a little boring at times. ★★★☆☆.

JanuarieTimewalker13 @Kimzey yes!!! I love octopuses!! I think that was in Shark Dialogues....GREAT book (edited) 6mo

I love books that make you think, or look at problems from a new perspective. This book certainly did that for me. I loved the look into the good behind the “villains” of the story, but ALSO the imperfections and corruption present in the “heroes.” It was also refreshing to read a superhero book not rooted in the DC or Marvel universes, as you needed no prior knowledge to go into this book. A fantastic read all around. Also, omg, THAT ENDING 😱😱

I don‘t read that much YA so I wasn‘t really expecting much from this. I felt like I was reading X-Men so it felt familiar to me which for me was fine. It was a bit slow in the beginning but I did really like the MC and watching her grow as a character. It was an easy and entertaining read. Will probably continue with the series, so hope the next one is even better!

I forgot to review this one after I read it a few weeks ago, but it was so, so fun. I wasn't sure how I would like it because I'd heard mixed reviews. But I loved it! I'm a fan of superheroes so reading a futuristic almost post-dystopian story about a "villain" infiltrating the "heroes" to take them down was such a fun take. & the whole star crossed love thing, too. Very fun read if you like action, superheroes, & stories starring the antihero.
