Me and Mr. Darcy
Me and Mr. Darcy: A Novel | Alexandra Potter
Dreams come true in this hilarious, feel-good fairy tale about life, love, and dating literatures most eligible bachelor! After a string of disastrous dates, Emily Albright decides shes had it with modern-day love and would much rather curl up with Pride and Prejudice and spend her time with Mr. Darcy, the dashing, honorable, and passionate hero of Jane Austens classic. So when her best friend suggests a wild week of margaritas and men in Mexico with the girls, Emily abruptly flees to England on a guided tour of Jane Austen country instead. Far from inspiring romance, the company aboard the bus consists of a gaggle of little old ladies and one single man, Spike Hargreaves, a foul-tempered journalist writing an article on why the fictional Mr. Darcy has earned the title of Man Most Women Would Love to Date. The last thing Emily expects to find on her excursion is a broodingly handsome man striding across a field, his damp shirt clinging to his chest. But thats exactly what happens when she comes face-to-face with none other than Mr. Darcy himself. Suddenly, every womans fantasy becomes one womans reality. . . . Praise for Me and Mr. Darcy: Unexpectedly charming. . . Me and Mr. Darcy offers a Pride and Prejudice - appropriate surprise. . . it turns out to be one of the wittier of this summer's offerings, not to mention sharp and sad in its observations about what spinsterhood, identity and aging look like for women in 2007. Salon [Me and Mr. Darcy] takes the reader on an extended daydream with an appropriately pleasant ending. The Indianapolis Star Alexandra Potters clever comedy, an affectionate celebration of books and readers and bookstores might lead you to start browsing those travel websites yourself. The Times- Picayune Pure candy for the imagination. . . Ms. Potter has worked literary magic with the creation of Me and Mr. Darcy. I read this book ages ago. I'm guessing back when it was first released. It's been on my All Things Austen Shelf since then. After reading some Goodreads Reviews I have a vague memory of it. Decided to reread to see if it deserved to be on my Forever Shelf.

1️⃣ the Cover. Why is this person wearing what looks like 1950's clothes when it's setting is Modern Day and Time Traveling to Jane Austen's day? It makes no sense what so ever.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 2️⃣ the love interest Spike is an asshole. I'm sorry there is just no other word for it.⬇️ 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig AND THEN the tour visits Chawton Manor and claims it was home to Jane Austen in the latter part of her life and it's where she revised Pride and Prejudice. Except we #PemberLittens know she DIDN'T! She lived down the road at Chawton Cottage. Her brother lived at the 'Big House'. ⬇️

2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig All the things that happened at the Cottage, her small writing table, the creaky door, this book attributes to the stately Chawton Manor. Apparently this author didn't even manage to do the bare minimum of Research and her Editor didn't do their job either. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig I can't believe this book has been taking up space on my shelf for YEARS. I'm guessing I meant to get rid of it but forgot and then after awhile it was just there.🤬 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy the answer is this book is crap. 2y
KristiAhlers Yeah I wasn‘t a fan I was a total DNF and donated it. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @KristiAhlers it's definitely going in the Goodwill box 2y
CaramelLunacy Oof! I found my old review and was apparently mad that for a woman who re-read Pride & Prejudice every year, she didn't seem to have even a basic grasp of its plot or that it wasn't Victorian... I didn't write anything down about Spike, but the hazy impression I retained matches what you say. Best to send it off in disgrace. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy Sending off in Disgrace! I must remember that. 2y

Yes it's September but the last from my #AusteninAugust 2022. But I'm a #PemberLittens so it's all appropriate to be ready Austenesque.

Read it ages ago. After looking at Goodreads Reviews I vaguely remember it. Want to see if it's still worthy to be on my #ForeverShelf.

CaramelLunacy I would be interested to know if it holds up - I think this was one that didn't really work for me when I read it ages ago (but I'm such a mood reader it may have just caught me at the wrong moment) 2y

Why is it that I always need to go at the most #inconvenient moments? I think, having a flashback to that day on the coach and Spike. Maybe I should start drinking cranberry juice or pomegranate or whatever it is that's good for your bladder. #QuotsyFeb20

"Not doing anything can be worse than doing the wrong thing" I finally get a hold of this book and I was not disappointed. Though in the middle the story got dragged a little bit but it was a good chic-lit story.

I grabbed this off the TBR pile (read mountain) during a jet lag sleep deprived night. A quick read and enjoyable. I‘m a sucker for books based on Austen‘s novels and also those about bookshops. This was a fun read and having done the ‘Austen thing‘ in Bath in late 2016 It was a nice reminder of our whirlwind visit.
Fun fact - if you search a Mr Darcy on Goodreads you get 649 results!

#AustenInAugust #WorstAustenesque

Someone didn‘t do their homework, she‘s not even wearing regency looking garments!

(13/18)

Crinoline_Laphroaig I actually have this one. Never did understand the cover. Book is set in modern day and is about visiting Jane Austen's England. Yet cover is what, 1940's clothes??? Although it is pretty. I didn't donate it when I was done reading so maybe it wasn't to bad. Will have to revisit. #austeninaugust 2019? 6y
CrowCAH @Crinoline_Laphroaig it‘s a possibility! 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CrowCAH I'm finally reading this one! I just posted and I was remembering a Cover Discussion and I found this. 2y

Begging Your Pardon; but I will be posting this picture from Chatsworth for the rest of my life. Why oh Why do I love Mr. Darcy? He always does what he thinks is right and when his right is wrong, he admits it and makes it right. For those who say he is moody I think he's actually a bit shy. He's steadfast, loyal and loves wholeheartedly. 😍 #favoritehero #austeninaugust

Day 29 #FallIntoBooks #crush Not to be super predictable 😀but my main bookish crush (I'm picking fictional because I picked Neil Gamin the last time for this prompt!) 😍😍😍remains Mr. Darcy--and he is always Colin Firth in my head. ❤️If I can't have him I could be happy with Captain Wentworth, Colonel Brandon or Mr. Knightley. Jane Austen wrote some crush-worthy leading men & these actors were my favorite on-screen portrayals. 😘❤️

jenniferw88 Alan! 😍😥 7y
AugustRush Yes. Jane has always been like a friend rather than an author to me, through my teens till now. She put the bar high up for men. 7y
LazyOwl Yes, always Colin Firth 7y

#90sinJuly #OneWeek This prompt made me think of these three books that each have a setting of a Jane Austen-inspired vacation where everyone pretends to live a Regency life for a week (or more). One part of me thinks this would be fun, but my inner-introvert thinks it would be hell on earth (stuck in costumes with people I don't know?! ) even for one week. Can we just send Mr. Darcy, pretty dresses & an unobtrusive ladies maid to my house?! 😆👍

Graciouswarriorprincess Only if I can join you!😉💕 7y

A modern adaptation of P&P with the added bonus of the main character being on a Jane Austen bus tour. Good fun and light-hearted.

This was a really quick read; light hearted, feel good - time traveling to go and meet Mr Darcy (what could be better than that!?!....hello wet shirt! 😜)

This was a book made to make you smile. 📕💕 Perfect accompaniment: some chocolate and a glass of wine.
