Meh. I had high hopes for this book. I don't want to sound crass and uncaring, but by the time I was about three-quarters of the way through, I found myself uninterested in Corrigan's Irish-Catholic childhood and her infertility problems. Just not the book for me, I guess.

Zelma I tried this years ago and bailed as well. It wasn‘t what I expected - more personal memoir than book-related. 3w
MaGoose @Zelma I totally agree. 3w

This is the second book in the Barker and Llewelyn series by Will Thomas. Good read. Barker and Llewelyn foil plans by an Irish faction to set off a large number of bombs in London. 👍

Finished this yesterday. Meh. A bit too long and run-on descriptions in some places that could have been condensed. I'm uncertain whether I'll continue reading the series.

I'm about one-third of the way through this. So far, it's okay, but nothing to write home about. At 551 pages, it could have been edited down some and made more efficient and effective.

suzie.reads You find this with alot of his books sadly 2mo
MaGoose @suzie.reads This is the second Jack Reacher story that I've read. Depending on how much I like this one after I finish slogging through it, I may not continue with the series. There are other series that I like more, so far, like the Chet and Bernie series by Spencer Quinn and the Barker and Llewelyn series by Will Thomas. 2mo

Finished this one a few days ago. Loved it. A duo of detectives, Barker and Llewelyn, vaguely similar to Holmes and Watson. The story is narrated by Llewelyn, the young assistant. I'll most likely read the entire series. 😍👌👍

As I said in a previous post, this was a re-read for me. I think I enjoyed it more this time around. I'm not sure if I will continue to read the rest of the series, as I've read the majority of them already, but I might consider it depending on what else I have in the offing on my TBR list. But, this book is definitely a thumbs up pick, especially if you like mysteries with a smart, savvy female detective as the protagonist. 👌 👍

This is the first book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. Fairly good, easy read but a bit dragged out in places and chunky at 524 pages (paperback edition). This is the first thing I've read by Lee Child other than a Jack Reacher short story in the 2018 The Best American Mystery Stories anthology.

This is the first book in a mystery series about Bernie, a private investigator, and his dog, Chet. Together, they solve a missing person mystery. The story is told from Chet's point of view. Chet is almost as smart as Bernie, who's no slouch intellectually. But pass the crullers, both Bernie and Chet are addicted to them. I'll most likely continue reading the series in the near future. 😍 👍

This audiobook was between a so-so and a pick. It was okay. The woman reader was fairly good. This is one of a series and is the first book I've read by Anne Hillerman. I wonder if I would've liked this one better if I had begun at the beginning of the series. Although there were some things that carried over from previous books, there were enough hints that you could pick up what had happened previously. Overall, an okay pick.

I finally finished this doorstop of a book. Good overall, although I did skim some essays. Dirda's essays introduce and discuss writers and books that he thinks should be on everyone's TBR list. I picked up several books to add to my list. Some books mentioned will never be on my list of things I've read. To each his own.

Just starting this book/ebook - I'm about 37 pages in and so far I'm liking it better than the first book (The Mark of the Spider) in the Black Orchid Chronicle series by David Haase. When I'm finished, I'll post a short review on Litsy and a longer one on my blog, www.janecairns.com 😎

My least favorite of the Cliff Janeway series. Janeway now has a silent partner in his bookstore, his new love, Erin D'Angelo, a corporate lawyer. Of the women Janeway's been involved with so far in this series, I don't think I would have picked this woman to become his main squeeze and partner in his business. But anyway, I'll say little more than that I truly disliked the ending.

Meh. I may read more of this series, then again...there are other books on my TBR patiently waiting to be read. Doc Ford investigates the apparent death of his friend and neighbor, Rafe Hollins. But was it Rafe who died, or someone else? Fairly good, except for the gratuitous sex involving Doc Ford and two women he barely knows.

An interesting mystery if you like books about books and book collecting. I think I liked this one (#3) best of the four I've read. I will read the fifth and last (I think) in the series later this summer. This story deals with the disappearance of an elderly woman's library. She claims that someone “stole“ her books when she was young-bought her grandfather's library for a pittance from her mother. Can Janeway prove anything after so much time?

I've read 4 out of the 5 books in the Cliff Janeway series and they all seem to improve a bit over the previous one. This book deals with a series of deaths that are unconnected until Janeway pieces together that they all owned a specific, numbered copy of The Raven from Grayson Press. But, why were these collectors being targeted? Will I commit a spoiler and reveal why? Quoth the raven, “nevermore.“ 😁 Enjoyed this one.

This is the first in a series about Cliff Janeway, a cop-turned-bookseller. Once he opens his used/rare bookstore, Janeway gets involved in three murders in the Denver neighborhood around his bookstore and puts his former policing skills to good use. A fairly good beginning for a series that only gets better. 👌 👍

Meh. This story is told in close third person, meaning, the plot action follows John's movements. We learn too much about John's indecisiveness. John forms a love interest in Julie, who he meets in Paris. He then tentatively reignites his love interest in Stephanie, his ex-girlfriend, when he gets back to Canada. Julie is nondescript; Stephanie is self-centered. Not enough action around the main story line. Could have been better from another POV.

I've become somewhat interested in collecting first editions of books. So, this nonfiction title was a good pick for me. It discusses what to look for as far as the condition of the book (mostly hardbacks, but also some paperbacks) and how to discern if it's a first edition. To a lesser extent, the book goes into how to judge if authors are collectable and/or have staying power. Enjoyable read for me.

A good read for those interested in book collecting. Cliff Janeway moves from being a cop to owning a used/rare book store. He gets involved in the deaths of his store clerk and two book scouts who search for used and rare books to sell to bookstore owners. Janeway has strengths and foibles as a cop (he has it in for a grownup bully) and a person (he's protective of the clerk and wants justice for the scouts). Fairly good pacing and read.

Kdgordon88 I really liked this series when I read it years ago. 8mo
MaGoose @Kdgordon88 That's good to know. I'm starting the second book in the series and find there's a lot of exposition about book collecting and the Grayson Press and the two brothers who ran it. I'm fairly interested so I'll read on, but it may be kinda dull for someone who just wants a good mystery. 8mo
Annl I really enjoyed the series. I still have one book left to read. 8mo
