Mehso-so

Maya‘s best friend is too busy to spend time with her, her summer trip was canceled, and her parents are separating. Now she‘s going door to door with Jamie asking people to vote. A YA friends-to-romantic-interests tale between a young Muslim girl and a young Jewish man centered around politics, life, self identity, and growing up.

Oh my goodness, I'm in love with the foreword!! I love her writing so much. You did so good Ellie! #politicsandbooks

batsy Wow. I still haven't read any of her fiction 😳 But her sharp intelligence is on display in a slim nonfiction book of hers I read. 7y
tammysue Loved this book! 7y

I have been out of commission due to minor surgery a few days so posting #augustphotochallenge back to day 11: #politicsandbooks. This book's author was my son's professor last spring & the concept intrigued me so That I read the book - and much to my surprise because I have never been able to watch graphic violence ( nightmares) I actually watched so@e of Game of Thrones with my son & got drawn in-( leaving the room at certain points of course).

CherylDeFranceschi I hope you feel better soon! 8y

I'm behind already for the #augustofpages #augustphotochallenge ... Instead of taking a picture of my Univeristy textbooks, I went with a non-fiction and fiction piece for #politicsandbooks. Dead Wake deals with politics and war and Face-Time, by one of my favourite satirist authors, makes politics humorous and fun 😉

I missed yesterday because I was caught up in hiking to the falls in Tettegouche State Park, but here I am today. I picked this book for my #politicsandbooks pick because it's an issue that I care deeply about and also I had it out from the library. Haven't read it yet since it was due a few days ago, but I will return! #Augustofpages/#Augustphotochallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

BookishFeminist I love Tettegouche! So pretty 8y

I love historical fiction about political intrigue. Trying to read more nonfiction about political intrigue as well. So far I'm doing better at collecting nonfiction books than I am at actually reading them. #politicsandbooks #augustphotochallenge #day11

rubyslippersreads I see several of my TBRs. 😺 8y

Alright the only relatively political book that I own I guess would be this beauty. The book thief is a fantastic book and if you've never read it I recommend you do so right now because WOW. #day11 #politicsandbooks #bookphotochallenge #augustofpages

Most of my #politicsandbooks tend to be in print or passed along after I finish them, but here are my ebooks for the #augustphotochallenge #augustofpages And yes, one of them is a political romance novel. What can I say, I was carried away by Scandal this season haha!

Eyyyy it's round 3 of the #augustphotochallenge ! Since I realized a huge chunk of my nonfiction *is* political books, here are two stacks of my favorite topics: Cold War spies (left) and the 1960s (right). You can also see some of my other NF books in the background...including an A. Ham cameo (see if you can spot him). Anyway, I need to read some of these again - or for the first time (Robert Caro cough). #politicsandbooks #hamiljokes

LauraJ Legacy was good. Did you read Enemies? 8y

Pickpick

For the #augustphotochallenge on #politicsandbooks I'm highlighting two books that shaped my thoughts on abortion rights. I return to PRO again & again as I think about how to argue for abortion rights. It has stayed with me. The Girls Who Went Away tells the stories of unwed mothers forced to surrender their babies for adoptions before Roe. It's a heart-wrenching and largely untold part of the pre-Roe story. #augustofpages

BookishFeminist These are such great books! Such great work on destigmatizing abortion. 8y
catieohjoy I LOVE The Girls Who Went Away. So powerful. 8y
alisahar @catieohjoy It was profound for me. Adoption is such an important facet of the abortion conversation. 8y

catieohjoy @alisahar I had the super weird experience of reading it for a class the same month I got into contact with my biological mother (I'm adopted)—so I was reading about the experiences of women pre-Roe, and hearing about her experience a couple decades later. Phew! 8y
BookishMarginalia Thanks for the review. I look forward to reading it 🤓 8y
alisahar @catieohjoy That must have been an emotional read.. 8y
alisahar @BookishMarginalia it's so worth it. Let me know what you think. 8y
