I enjoyed this quirky Japanese thriller with serious Mr. Ripley vibes.

The Woman in the Yellow Cardigan is obsessed with The Woman in the Purple Skirt. Yellow Cardigan goes from observing Purple Skirt to finding deeper and deeper ways to entwine their lives.

While there isn‘t that intensity and fear that you find in the typical American thriller, this fast read still had me turning the pages.

KarenUK Love that cover 😍 1y
Cinfhen Almost downloaded this one off of scribd this morning, instead I chose 1y

Megabooks @KarenUK it is very pretty!! 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks re: my shelves!! 😘 Light Perpetual sounds interesting, but I think Purple Skirt is more up my alley. 🤔 1y
Cinfhen It‘s on the #ManBooker21Longlist otherwise I would have probably skipped it 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen ahhh yes!! I‘m not doing that this year. The list didn‘t really leap out at me like last year‘s. 🤷🏻‍♀️ that award hits me that way some years, and I generally don‘t force the issue. We‘ll see what I do with the National Book Award and Tournament of Books. 🤔 1y
BarbaraBB Great review. I‘ve stacked, sounds like my kind of book! 1y
erzascarletbookgasm Interesting cover! Already stacked this! 1y
rabbitprincess Ooh I love Japanese mysteries and thrillers! This one looks good. 1y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I think you‘d like it. 👍🏻 1y
Megabooks @erzascarletbookgasm It is a fantastic cover! 🤩 1y

Migrations: A Novel | Charlotte McConaghy
post image
Pickpick

Almost all animal life on the planet has gone extinct, and Franny sets out to follow the final migration of Arctic terns from Greenland to Antarctica. To do this, she joins the crew of a fishing vessel. I loved her rapport with the crew, especially Lea and Captain Ennis.

The other part of the book looks back at Franny‘s life in Ireland in childhood and with her husband Niall. I didn‘t enjoy these flashbacks as much, but still an amazing novel!

Megabooks @BarbaraBB thank you for the review that sent me on a mission to BN to find this! 😘😘 1y
Alfoster Oh, I loved this one too! Her latest, Once There Were Wolves is on NetGalley and really good as well!🥰 1y
Megabooks @Alfoster that‘s what @Cinfhen said! It‘s definitely on my list! 1y

BarbaraBB I am so glad you liked it!! About the pic: suddenly your books are no longer of the same size! 😉😘 1y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB yes! I redid my shelves and my TBR shelves are no longer strictly by size, but now mostly by color! I‘m enjoying it. 😁📖 1y
Cinfhen Great review 😁and hardcore #ShelfEnvy 😍 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I truly love your appreciation of my #Shelfie addiction!! 🥰🥰😘 1y
Cinfhen I‘m a very visual person and your shelves are absolutely stunning 🤩 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen me too! I think that‘s why my shelves matter to me so much. Do you paint pictures of characters/people in your head while reading? I definitely do, especially on audio! 1y
Megabooks @Cinfhen and thank you!! 😘😘 1y
Cinfhen Yup! The stronger the writer the better I can imagine the characters as people I “know” or “recognize” 1y
BarbaraBB They look fantastic this way! 1y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB thanks!! 💜 1y

Into Thin Air | Jon Krakauer

Pickpick

Krakauer‘s account of the 1996 disaster on Mt. Everest that claimed 12 lives in two days is nonfiction everyone should read. It will get your blood pumping! He was one of only a handful of people to survive that summited the mountain on May 10.

I love this gorgeous #botm cover!

I still regret not seeing Beck Weathers, another survivor, speak at my college two years after he returned from Everest.

AlaMich Yeah, I read this in about a day and a half which, for me, is lightning-speed. I could not put it down. I then lent it to a friend who I thought would enjoy it. His response was, why would I want to read a book where everyone has to keep stepping over dead bodies? 🤷‍♀️ (edited) 2y
Bookwormjillk This is one of my favorite books. Now that you mention it maybe I am due for a re-read. 2y

The Philanderer | Stanley Kauffmann
post image

The Philanderer sounds like a bit of a #creep.

There must be some slightly risqué stuff that our philanderer gets up to in order for an obscene libel case. ? I might read the summing-up to see what is said....

Also I don‘t need much of an excuse for a gratuitous posting of the orange penguins. ?

About to choose my next book. Exciting times! But despite the hundreds on my TBR pile, I get the hump because it‘s Sunday and the bookshops and libraries are closed! Maybe the new Stephen King?

RaimeyGallant I know that feeling. And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it. Or if you prefer how-to videos, @chelleo put some together at the link in her bio. @LitsyWelcomeWagon 4y

I don‘t know if you all know this, but in Denmark you get paid to study. That‘s right, from your 18th birthday, you get paid monthly to study (when you are actually enrolled in some form of education). The hope is students will be busy studying, not #busyearning enough money for food and rent. Although, I‘m still busy earning enough to satisfy my book addiction. You gotta keep those shelves looking fresh! 💸💸

#Aprella

Jabberwocky That‘s amazing. What a good incentive to keep people studying/ make it easier to get the most out of your education!! 5y

Weaponxgirl That's amazing and a genuinely great way to help poorer students keep up with their richer peers as they don't end up time poor instead 5y
Christine11 That‘s fantastic! 5y
RebelReader That‘s wonderful! I wish the USA would adopt some more international policies 5y
Jess7 Ohh cool! That‘s interesting! #themoreyouknow 5y
Martta Same in Finland. Is there any school fees in Danish Universities? 5y
emilyhaldi Fab!!! 💰👌🏻👏🏻 5y
DivineDiana Sounds like Denmark and Finland value education! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 5y
laurieluna Wow. I need to move there for my kids sake. 😩 England sucks. I do have to say though, I always love your shelfies. I have #shelfenvy 5y
Kalalalatja @Martta not for state approved educations/schools, which most of them are, so I would say no. How about in Finland? 5y
Kalalalatja @Jabberwocky @TrishB @LiteraryinLititz @Reviewsbylola @Weaponxgirl @Christine11 @RebelReader @Jess7 @emilyhaldi @DivineDiana @miralunasbooknook it really is great! It isn‘t a perfect system, but it does make it possible for most students to make it through their study time with little or no student debt, plus it gives room to focus more on study problems instead of money problems. I really can‘t complain! 5y
802Librarian Sounds so wonderful. I worked full time (USA, so 40 hrs/week) while getting my Masters degree and I‘m still paying the debt from it 9 years later 🙄😡. 5y
Mdargusch Wow! 💰💰💰 nice perk? 5y
Martta Our schools are free. There are some special courses that cost money but they are rare. 5y
Kalalalatja @NHLibrarian that makes no sense to me! I really feel priviliged to be able study full time, and only work part time, because I choose to do so, instead of having to do so. @Mdargusch well, it‘s not like I‘m rich or anything, but it does cover most of my monthly expenses 👍 @Martta that‘s how it is here as well 👍 5y
SauerPatch I am drooling over your bookshelves! 😍🤤 5y
ephemeralwaltz That is such a great incentive for young students. I‘ve heard that from northern European countries and I am so jealous! Why is the economy in Spain sooooo bad? 😭 it‘s hard enough to find time to work while studying full-time. Your shelves are so gorgeous!!😍😍 5y
stacybmartin Your bookshelves are gorgeous!! 😍 5y
erzascarletbookgasm How awesome. I want to move to Denmark. For my children‘s sake. 😁 5y
batsy I agree with @TrishB that's definitely how education should be. From where I am, Denmark is looking amazing for having these policies 👌🏽I can't get over how in so many parts of the world it's just about treating students (and patients) as customers and competitors with no safety net. (And your shelves are amazing 😍😁) 5y
Kalalalatja @SauerPatch @stacybmartin thanks you two! ☺️ @ephemeralwaltz @erzascarletbookgasm well, we do pay a lot in taxes to be able to have a society like this, but I wouldn‘t want it any other way! @batsy I agree! That‘s definitely not the feeling you get as a student (or patient) in Denmark, but it does affect the quality of the educations or health services provided at times, if certain areas don‘t get enough state funding. But mostly, it‘s great! 5y
Becker Your book shelf makes me happy 😃 5y
ferskner I wish I could love this 1 billion times. 5y
