Braiding Sweetgrass | Robin Wall Kimmerer
post image
Pickpick

This is the kind of book that I will keep coming back to reread various chapters. Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer is a botanist, professor, and member of the Potawatomi Nation. Her passion for plants, ecology, reciprocity with our environment, and indigenous rights, culture and tradition is palpable. I learned so much from this book, and wish I could visit SUNY to take one of her classes!

Megabooks It is a fantastic book! 3y
Singout I recommend and give this to everyone! She also has an incredibly soothing audiobook voice; I sometimes go back to her to help me relax and ease into sleep. I tried her book about moss but didn‘t find it quite as engaging, simply because it was about, well, moss. 3y
Cinfhen It‘s on #Scribd so I‘ll pick it up at some point!! Beautiful review 3y
Kalalalatja Great review! 🙌 3y
BarbaraBB Oh this sounds quite special. 3y
alisiakae @Riveted_Reader_Melissa yes! Lab Girl is great too. I also The Story of More by Jahren, but didn‘t like that one quite as much. 3y
alisiakae @Singout 🤣 I loved the audiobook, but I think I may buy the physical book too. There were sections I wanted to take notes, and that‘s hard for me to do with audio. 3y
alisiakae @BarbaraBB it is! And @LazyLibrary has a much better review than my tired, end of the day write-up before bed. 😃 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @4thhouseontheleft I‘ll have to check that one out! 3y
LazyLibrary Thanks so much for the shoutout!!! I‘m doing a wild herbalism and foraging apprenticeship, and paired with this book, so many intense feelings!!! FANTASTIC audiobook! 3y

Into Thin Air | Jon Krakauer

Pickpick

I have a feeling 25 years ago, when this book was originally published, it must have been considered groundbreaking. A new blend of history, investigative reporting and personal experiences all told in the first person narrative. The agonizing recounting of a mountain climb gone terribly wrong. I was completely captivated by the events before, during & after the ordeal. I never considered how much money and ego is at stake amongst the guides👇🏼

Cinfhen And don‘t get me started on the horrible treatment and exploitation of the Sherpa. 🤬So glad I finally picked up this book for #ReadingAsia2021 #Nepal #pop21 #BestsellerFrom1990s #NonFiction21 #SomethingAboutNature (edited) 3y
alisiakae I loved this book when I first read if! Haven‘t read a Krakauer book in years 🤔 3y
AlaMich And I think it‘s all even worse now than it was then, in terms of how many climbers they allow, the amount of trash and debris left behind, and the exploitation of the Sherpas. 3y

Velvetfur Wow.... I think I'll have to read this book this year. Great review 👍🏻 3y
Cinfhen I definitely recommend this book @Velvetfur it‘s good!! I‘m thinking of trying this one next @4thhouseontheleft 3y
Cinfhen That makes me so sad @AlaMich you‘re probably right 😢 3y
BarbaraBB Under de Banner is shocking and fantastic. I was completely obsessed by the LDS Church afterwards (when I visited Salt Lake City last year). 3y
Cinfhen I‘m excited to read it @BarbaraBB 3y
Kalalalatja I really like Krakauer, so he will definitely be on my 2021 reading list 🙌 3y
Cinfhen Would totally work for #setoutdoors @Kalalalatja 😁How was work today???? 3y
Kalalalatja It was great, but I‘m so tired due to all the new people and information 😅 I have a good feeling, though, and I can‘t wait till I have settled in 👍 3y

#booked2018

Blame it on Litsy- Sometimes I Lie
Diverse Non Fiction- The Girl Who Smiled Beads
LGBTQ+MC- Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda
Japanese Thriller- Confessions
Beach Read- The Summer We Read Gatsby

These are the titles I've read for the 3rd quarter. I have 100 pages and until midnight to squeeze in my last title. Will I make it? I have tons of time for some end of summer beach reading today.

Cinfhen You can do it!!!! 6y
mrp27 @Cinfhen Thanks for your vote of confidence! 6y
Cinfhen I also have u marked as reading your #setoutdoors during this quarter!! I didn‘t note the book...do u recall??? 6y
Cinfhen It still counts even if u don‘t remember the title 😜😜 6y
mrp27 Yes! I didn't finish my set in the outdoors book in time last quarter but I did finish it this quarter. The book was A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson. 6y

Although this took me a while to finish (mostly do to life stresses) I enjoyed reading this. You do have to enjoy first hand accounts which aren't always entertaining, but I found that I didn't want to put it down. There are parts that are slow, a normal thing for nonfiction, but overall it was an easy read when I had time. Read for #booked2018 #setoutdoors

#readingresolutions #booked2018 #setoutdoors

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As much as I love the city life I equally love to #camp. I love the outdoors, fishing, and hiking so this book hit the spot for me. Loved reading about the AT. There were times though where Bryson's humor came off as arrogance but a solid pick. Some gratuitous camping pics from last month.

JaclynW Beautiful scenery! 6y
alisiakae Great review! I am also someone who loves both the city and the countryside/outdoors...esp the mountains. 6y

I thought I actually might get through six prompts this quarter, but I didn‘t quite get there. Still, I‘m very happy with these five. Four of them are picks and two are currently in my top five for the year. 😄

#setoutdoors: Annihilation
#friendship: Lily and the Octopus
#BlameItOnLitsy: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
#LGBTQIAMC: Her Body and Other Parties
#NewIn2018: I‘ll Be Gone in the Dark

I thought this was a fascinating look at what weather prediction, especially hurricanes, was like before the advent of weather satellites. The way he weaves in the story of the personalities involved makes it that much better. This is my book #aboutenvironment or #setoutdoors for #booked2018 @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage

Cinfhen I‘ve been wanting to read this book for awhile!! Glad to hear it‘s a a good one!! Congrats on getting the last prompt in💚 6y

Just started this one-literally only 15 pages in. Went on a short run and had a workout and I can‘t seem to stop thinking about it. Which is a good sign I think. It seems a little out of my comfort zone in terms of writing style (no dialogue yet!) but I‘m still liking it. I‘m thinking of using it for #Booked2018 #SetOutdoors

readordierachel That's a good sign! 6y
Cinfhen You have a few hours left to get it in for this quarter ❣️❣️😘 6y
