Brothers Karamazov | Fyodor Dostoevsky

Ch 6.2abcd y‘all. This is a long speech. Take the weekend to read it. We can discuss it on Sunday or as we go #whateverworks #imgoingtoNYCandthebrosarestayinghome #itried #ionlygottoC #planetocatch #seeyousunday #thebros #hashtagbrigade #pemberlittens

Librarybelle Aloysha really didn‘t need to document everything, did he??? 😂 I just read C and will read the next bit of this “chapter” later today. It‘s so much easier to divide the longer chapters into little sections. 2mo

5feet.of.fury That good huh? 2mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury it‘s just long, it‘s like 4 chapters in one 🤣 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead side note- I‘m planning a weekend with my friend in NYCnext month and all we have figured out that we want to do is go to BeetleHouse, so if you have any recommendations please share! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Stories within stories going on! Sheesh! 2mo
currentlyreadinginCO I am teleworking today and will try and get through this on my little breaks 🙏 2mo
Ruthiella I think this might be a rebuttal to The Grand Inquisitor. I think Father Zosima is saying that the divine is not for humans to understand. 🤔 2mo
KAO Honestly, after the warnings of this next very long chapter, I was apprehensive—but I enjoyed this one most of all so far! Comprehensible (even interesting!) plot with some philosophical and theological reflection that all tied together in ways that made sense to me! Feeling encouragement here! (edited) 2mo
BarkingMadRead @KAO I was enjoying it! It‘s so interesting but also so long! I was trying to read it all before we left for the airport, but I ran out of time 🤣 2mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury have so much fun! We are doing Tea at the Plaza and Spamalot on Broadway. We tend to a stick with the same stuff 🤣 I‘m a Jersey girl originally so I‘ve been going my whole life 2mo
KAO @BarkingMadRead I found myself disappointed with The Grand Inquisitor segment, since it‘s perhaps the most famous part, but I liked this section so much more. Meanwhile, have a good trip! ✈️ 📖 (edited) 2mo
dabbe @TheAromaofBooks And I'm like, “Will I need to remember all this for later?“ What should I remember? 😳 2mo
dabbe At least it pretty much reads like a biography and not like a long-winded church sermon! 🤩😂😃 2mo
Bookwormjillk Haha I was wondering how you got through this long chapter so early in the day. Have a great trip! 2mo
mcctrish @dabbe 👏🏻👏🏻 it is much less blah than I imagined 2mo
Cuilin @Ruthiella agree, I thought this was a response to Ivan, Alyosha head 🤯 2mo
currentlyreadinginCO Finished it! Z's story is interesting & I love this book's meandering nature 2mo

DNF of 123. At over a hundred pages into the book I should at bare minimum give a damn about the main character. However she, along with the rest of the story, were so incredibly dull I couldn‘t in good conscience continue. I tried.

Panpan

I‘m hesitant to pan a book written in a foreign language with possible questionable translation, but I only enjoyed two of these stories. The women in this book were very one dimensional and acted simply as a mirror of the feelings of the men in the stories. It wasn‘t a great collection, but I did like Kirby Heybourne‘s narration.

Emilymdxn I felt exactly the same 4y
Megabooks @Emilymdxn oh good. I was afraid it was just me. Thanks. 4y

My son has a Dr Seuss day tomorrow and target and Walmart only sell toddler sizes. So I bought some random men's small shirt on clearance and made him one. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ he helped though by drawing the Grinch #itried

Oh Tom Hanks, you are such a great actor and director and I adore you, but I just can't finish your book! I'd be willing to give it a shot by reading but audio book is not the way to go. There is absolutely no indication of when going from one chapter to the next and it's hard to follow. Love how you sneak a typewriter into each story but that's it. Also, you trying to sound like a sexy woman is off-putting and kinda creepy. #Itried #dnf #bail

Mehso-so

I loved the first 30%, and then a thing happened and I was irritated at that and various other things throughout the rest of it. I'm starting to think that this kind of paranormal just really isn't my thing. Good vs evil, angels vs demons, light vs dark, etc can be so boring sometimes.

wanderinglynn Was the thing that irritated you that they changed Joanna to look like Olivia? Because I just finished this and that was weird & bugged me throughout the rest of the book. (edited) 5y
SarahSaysRead @wanderinglynn OMG YES!! That was so weird, I hated it. 5y
wanderinglynn I‘m glad I‘m not the only one that was disturbed by that. 5y

Bailedbailed

Maybe it's my lack of Knowledge of Russia's Folklore or the long winded-ness of the author but I wasn't all that interest and it seemed to drag on. So I gave up on page 106. Life's too short to force yourself to read books you aren't enjoying!

I'm not saying I'll never pick it up in the future but as of now I'm just not into this book.

I finally had to admit I didn‘t want to read this anymore. The books moves between several different character perspectives and none of it felt cohesive enough to carry the plot forward. Carl Hiaasen is a master of putting characters on a stage and letting them wander into each other, this felt like the opposite of that. #dnf #itried
