Clare-Dragonfly “Make another one of the people who horrified and disgusted you” doesn‘t sound like the greatest plan, but I guess the creature didn‘t think of “treat me like a human being and introduce me to other people as one so they‘ll get used to me,” and anyway I don‘t think Victor would go for that after the creature killed William. 2w
Bookwormjillk Frank will do anything to avoid owning up to what he did in the first place 2w
BookwormAHN I wonder if he really would have left Victor alone if he had made him a wife. 2w
ElizaMarie This is the chapter where my feeling for the creature ends. 2w

Bookwormjillk I‘m sure everything is fine now 1mo
dabbe Um ... there's a creature out there on the loose, people! Let's just pretend that never happened! 😳 1mo

Clare-Dragonfly So… what does he think the creature is doing?! And Elizabeth apparently thinks Victor is an idiot, since she assumes he doesn‘t remember how a girl described as a great favorite of his came to join the household 😂 1mo
ElizaMarie @dabbe yeah he is very #OutOfSightOutIOfMind about this creature 4w
KAO It‘s unbelievable how the creature is simply not a concern! I kept waiting for comments indicating Victor‘s worry—or at least curiosity!! 4w
Bklover What creature?? Ohhhhh, that one!! 4w
Sparklemn @Clare-Dragonfly Honestly, I had to read this section multiple times because I assumed I missed something. 🤔 4w

Bookwormjillk They always kill the mothers 🤷‍♀️ 1mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk the poor moms! They never stand a chance! 1mo

dabbe Maybe the moms die to spur the children to grow up and go on their quest. Victor's mom definitely did that for him. I find it interesting, too, that Victor ignores the warnings of his first professor, Krempe, just as Walton seems to ignore Victor: both are blinded by their ambition to gain glory. Walton wants to find the northwest passage, and Victor wants to aid society through science. As @BarkingMadRead knowingly said, #whatcouldgowrong? 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly And the mom‘s dying wish is for Victor and Elizabeth to get married 😬 1mo
ElizaMarie The whole — everything you studied is useless start over got me! 1mo

mcctrish I‘m pretty sure everything will go wrong 2mo
willaful Fascinating chapter! To me, Charles and Sebastian are clearly in love... But do they know it themselves?

The ending is heartbreaking. Sebastian's family is doing the absolute worst thing they could do in the name of taking care of him. I'm afraid they're driving him to his death.
2mo
Cuilin The juxtaposition of the helicoptering of Sebastian‘s family and The “hey you‘re 22, no? you‘re 20, I thought it was longer but, live your own life” from Charles‘s father is something. (edited) 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I do not foresee good things for Sebastian. 2mo
Bookwormjillk I left this and Nancy Drew until 7:45 tonight. Why do I feel like a kid who procrastinated on their homework 😂 2mo
lil1inblue @Bookwormjillk Haha. Same. 😂 2mo
lil1inblue @willaful They're definitely in love. 😍 2mo
ElizaMarie @willaful yes!!! I don‘t think they understand the feelings they have but know they feel intense and all consuming. 2mo
Sparklemn @Cuilin I thought so, too. And yet they‘re both so lonely. 2mo

TheBookHippie Ughhhhhhh 😵‍💫 2mo
Ruthiella Archer, the time to consider all this was when you were not yet married and Ellen could have divorced. You didn‘t have the stones then and you don‘t now. 2mo

ElizaMarie Okay, so May suspects, but what does she do about it? Do you think she is siding with the family against Ellen because of this suspicion? Like, secretly (or not so), she wants Ellen to be destitute, to financial and societal ruin? Or just to get her to leave? Either way? 2mo

Bookwormjillk @ElizaMarie The passage with may at the end where it said what she said in one phrase and then said what she meant in about 2 paragraphs was so interesting. I'm not sure she even knows what she wants though other than to maybe keep up appearances and practice archery in peace? 2mo
Cuilin “They smell less if one blows them out”!!!!!!! Methinks May wants rid of Ellen. (edited) 2mo
mcctrish I love how Archer knows exactly what May is saying even though she‘s saying nothing, AS IF! Nobody talks about anything, how would he know what goes unspoken #utternonsense but his guilt is talking loud in his head, that‘s for sure 2mo
lil1inblue @Cuilin 🎯😏 2mo
lil1inblue @mcctrish Exactly! His arrogance is beyond the pale. #dick 2mo
lil1inblue “Archer's New York tolerated hypocrisy in private relations; but in business matters it exacted a limpid and impeccable honesty.“ So Beaufort can be a #cheatingcheaterwhocheats at home and no one gives a fork, but he can't fail in business! How horrid! #shameshame 2mo
mcctrish @lil1inblue at least they are worrying about Beaufort‘s wife now being left penniless ( as opposed to when he was gallivanting around town and throwing money at women who weren‘t her) 2mo
lil1inblue @mcctrish I felt like they were less worried about Beaufort's wife, and more worried about the disgrace to the family name. #horrors 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly They‘re worried about Beaufort‘s wife being ostracized by his screw-ups. But they could choose not to ostracize her 🙄 2mo
