Thief of Time | Terry Pratchett

Mehso-so

This book was definitely a mixed bag. The story in itself wasn't bad. I enjoyed what little we knew about Jeremy; his storyline felt so different from anything I've ever read before. However, the anti-medication stance was a bit old-fashioned. The monks are kind of a racist caricature, which isn't helping the book. Susan was especially unpleasant in this one as well. I am not a fan of her, and this installment isn't doing her any favors.

Doppoetry The Auditors are such an interesting concept, but I believe they would feel more impactful if they were treated slightly more seriously. They are presented as a threat, but are treated like a joke, and it didn't exactly land (for me at least.)

To add a bit more about the racism with the monks: I don't think it was meant to be malicious, but came from a place of ignorance/outdated martial arts movies. I believe you can do such concepts justice-

Doppoetry -but asian stereotypes weren't it. It's one of those instances where I get where he's going with it, but the execution is so uncomfortable to read. 4d

Well, it's Terry Pratchett - what's more to say? We get Discworld, we get a glimpse into private Terry, we get speeches and short stories from young Pratchett. Including the great illustrations by Josh Kirby. What's not to love?

(I did skip the texts about Neil Gaiman and JK, though)

Amiable My German is elementary at best —does that translate into “the whole crazy” or “all the madness”? 5d

Jari-chan @Amiable You're good! I'd translate it as the latter. Sounds better, I think. 5d
Amiable @Jari-chan I‘ve been taking a class once a week for the past couple of years at a local German school —I‘m way better at reading it than speaking it ! Still working on the conversational aspect. It‘s tough to learn a new language in your 50s. 😬😳😄 5d
Jari-chan @Amiable That's amazing! You're rocking that, I'm sure! 💪💪 5d

Ayyy I made it! 😅 The last -ology I needed to read through would‘ve been decalogy. I planned on The Sandman GNs way back when I started this project, but sadly I‘ll be skipping those. So instead I‘m continuing on with the mega series of Discworld. I‘ll be marathoning my way through the Industrial Revolution collection that I‘ve gotten behind on with the #OokBookClub. Fingers crossed I‘ll get caught up to The City Watch novels.

While I was searching for Discworld themed knit or crochet projects I came across a cute Great A‘tuin amigurumi pattern. I don‘t know anything about amigurumi yet. I have a beginner project sitting in the frog pond waiting for me to attempt again. So this link https://www.planetjune.com/blog/about/amigurumi-discworld/ is beyond my understanding and looks suitable for someone with better creative skills.

The Carpet People | Terry Pratchett

Pickpick

Imagine you‘re 17 again, sitting in your living room with a massive carpet underfoot. Your creative juices are flowing and you imagine miniscule people who live their entire lives in the carpet, with its deep forests and city walls built of dust. The “fray” is quite scary to the people and traversing the entirety of the carpet would take a lifetime. 17-yo Pratchett wrote a version of this somewhat mystifying book in serial form for his local ⬇️

Texreader newspaper. Years later he turned it into this book. There are lots of different “tribes” of wee people and lots of battles, and I got a bit lost and confused with the audiobook. The epilogue has his original serialization, and it should have gone at the beginning, which would have made the book more understandable. But I still give the book decent marks for immense creativity. I dream it could have been a book I wrote at that age. #authoramonth 8mo
